  • In this video im lucky enough to spend some time with Frank the head bee inspector in Wales looking at American Fouldbrood or like its known within the beekeeping community AFB.
The Bee Inspectors had recently been to clear a foul brood case and had an excellent example frames for us to see.
This video is a great resource for you to learn about American Foulbrood as well and learning what it looks like.
As beekeepers we never want disease but its very good practise to familiarise yourself with bee diseases. Fouldbrood is by far the worst disease out there for honeybees.

Very clear examples of AFB. I called for a visit five or six years ago as I thought I had it.luckily for me, I didn’t but the inspector said he would rather be called out to check and find no AFB than not be called at all. We all worry case we are wasting their time, but the inspectors really encourage beekeepers to call. We are very lucky in Wales. Many thanks for video.

      Hi Jane,
yes were very lucky with the amount of bee inspectors we have in Wales and with the level of foul brood we have is quite low in relation to other parts of the UK.
My advice would always check with them if your in doubt. Better safe than sorry. Thanks for watching the video 😊

Oh thank goodness! When I read the title I thought perhaps your bees had it, so so glad that this is just an ‘information’ video. Hope your bees stay healthy. 🤞🤞

Thanks for a great channel! You should try the BeeScanning app. It detects both varroa mites and sick brood, you just use your smartphone camera. Free to download and use!

Hiya, do they burn on premises, and then bury or can they take hive away, as I'm on concrete

Yes burn on premises normally, but I’m sure they are flexible based on location.
