Built this one too as a kid. I was amazed at how well balanced and how stable it is using just the rubber powered prop that comes with the kit.

@@NANNIRC I didn't find it to be a hinderance. It kind of worked like a ships keel if that makes any sense. It's a fun build. Enjoy!

Happy to read. You see, This kind of models in an RC channel may be strange. But I'm fascinated from all the models expressions and I think that ability in other construction fields is good also for RC. Ciao Nanni

    Salutations Giovanni!
Acrylic is water soluble and can be thinned quite a bit, and still can color the tissue paper, which can often be found at a gift wrapping supply shop. Usually, these kits provide all of the tissue paper needed, and then some, but it is usually very easy to find, however, you could also use Mylar and some other materials to cover your model airplanes with. Mylar can be tightened up with the application of some heat from a hair dryer, or an iron designed for that purpose. Mylar is also a lot more durable and comes in many colors, but can also be painted with acrylic paint and some other finishes as well. Your larger aircraft that you pointed out in this video will always be much easier for you to make it fly well, than the smaller peanut scale airplanes.
Tim McKay applies Monokote to a lot of his models and this material has an adhesive that is heat activated and is applied with a small iron designed for this purpose.
Your plane seems to have come out looking good, it would be interesting to see how well it flies.
Please keep in mind, that the smaller the plane is, the more accurate and refined it must be to fly well, or else it may need more power as well.
    Happy building and flying!
Thank you for sharing and posting these videos!
Please have an excellent and awesome day!
    ☀️✨✈️

Hi there Giovanni, what a wonderful looking plane. So sorry that the correct paint type alluded you and that the supplies of the rice paper are hard to get hold of. I’m surprised as I thought that the RC community and model shops would still stock such an item, then, I suppose, it’s only people like us that want to build these vintage style models, most are turning to preassembled models. Still, you’ve recovered the model well, looks fantastic and still given you pleasure to build. Great work. Take care and the very best of wishes to you and the family. Ciao John 😎😉

I have thought about building a plane like this just as a display piece but thing I would probably end up with more paper stuck to me than the plane!! It looks fantastic and great work dealing with such delicate materials!!!

Dear Addam, you are perfectly able to do and to fly things like this. They require few tools, glue and paper varnish. Yes they are fragile but not so much. I use them for display more than fly.

Nice work, Giovanni! I built the Rufe some years ago, and found it to be very satisfying; poetry indeed, as you say. I've always used the clear and colored dope throughout the process. It is available online. Cheers!

When you painted the paper you shrank it. It will only shrink once when it gets wet. Glue your edges with a small paint brush then apply the tissue wet. Hold it by the corners and dip it in a tray or flat pan of water and then carefully lay it on and then glue the outside edges the same way. It will be wrinkled but when it dries it will shrink and tighten up like a drum. Then you can dope it, paint it, whatever you want. It will wrinkle up again but always go back to the original tightness.

Very well explained, usually I cover at the best then spray water then paint or what else. Nice suggestion. Thank you"

It looks really good. I'm doing the whole 500 series. I did the Stuka and the P 40 and just started the Rufe. That's why I was on the internet looking at videos and pictures for ideas. I think I'm going to go with with the white with red stripes paint job on this one. Another tip. Guillows silkspan works much better than regular tissue paper and you can get it from their website.

@@BullwinkleFromHell I always wanted to try silk (we used on big RC planes) I find it super unfortunately Guillow's dos not sell out from USA ora America. When I wanted do built the Beaver with floaters I had to ask to a nephew that lives Chicago and she shipped to Italy... Have fun. Ciao Nanni

They will fly as is with all the wood according to the plan, just balance well. Get some contest rubber and lube, you'll see what I mean. Make the rubber motor longer too.🙂
