The stadium does not generate revenue on the days that there’s no soccer, or a concert, or a tractor pull there. a MLS stadium in Queens is not going to generate this whole magical community of year round fully time jobs at 1,500 jobs. It’s going to maybe have 1,500+ jobs while being built, buy it’s not gonna support that many year-round full-time jobs. I don’t think there’s a demand for a 500 bedroom hotel for a soccer team that plays maybe 30 home games a year.

However NYCFC has used Red Bull Arena (Harrison, NJ), Pratt & Whitney Stadium (East Hartford, CT), Jack Coffey Field "Fordham University" (Bronx, NY), and even BMO Stadium (Los Angeles, CA) for home games at one point or another.

It's amazing soccer is growing in a regular pace in USA! There is no need to rush and end up like NASL . . . and soon MLS will become top 4 league in terms of revenue. Future is bright !

MLS teams play min 17 home games, plus playoffs, plus CCL if they qualify, plus the US Open Cup if they host a soccer match. But there should international club & national team friendlies, potential 2nd NWSL NYC team, College soccer games, likely group stage Gold Cup matches as well. So at min 40 matches per year. Then you can host concerts, rubgy, neutral site college football as well. 1500 jobs are for fulltime security, stadium maitenence, field maitenence, team operations, ticket sales, advertising representatives etc.

But I know from experience, that the majority of the people that work there are just ad-hoc temporary workers. Like the like the people that work on the food concession stands and the ushers. it’s like a 2nd gig job for them. & when they do have a game being played, mostly of then working is about 4+ hours total time. I doubt a soccer stadium even, with a minimum of 40 games a year is going to be support 1,500 full-time jobs.
America's biggest sports are absolutely wonderful- I am a fan of all of them (NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL). But I am so glad that MLS is growing so that one day it will be as strong as those I mentioned. Why? I want the US to be part of a world game because of how this will lead to both the blessing of the world - and the blessing of the US. May each of these sports prosper as their owners, players, and fans prove to be good role models to young people - and use sport to build up communities. A US run Olympics combined with a soccer World Cup in years coming will see soccer EXPLODE in the US. It's going to be awesome - I am so glad I am alive to see this.
the jets and giants don't want to pay for it. that's all there is to it. this is 100% privately funded and largest affordable housing project in a very long time. jets and giants aren't coughing up the cash for any of that. they'd want a deal like the bills got upstate.
