@@moneymike4017 I have ADHD also. Math was never my strong suite, but many of job positions in my area require that you read a tape measure and be accurate with depth perception and use other equipment and such. So I am learning so that I can do it. It's preventing me from moving upward in life and obtaining better employment. But now that I am learning it's helping myself confidence and my ability to know that I can do it.

Thank you Dr. Dixon! That was truly the best explanation of a tape measure ever. I went to Home Depot today and the young lady asked me for my measurements for the project I wanted to do, and I felt bad that I couldn't tell her. So, me being a humble honest man I told her I did not know how to use a tape measurer and she recommended your video on TH-cam! I said I was not going to die and not know how to use a tape measure. So, I came home and in twenty minutes I understood what I had been avoiding for over 35 years! I watched a couple of others that were difficult, disjointed and confusing. I came back and watched yours again and realized I really understood it better because of your break down! Thanx

I’ve never really needed to read a ruler or a tape measure until I started my own digital printable Etsy store. I had no idea what I was doing and was so confused because as an Indian I was taught to measure in the metric system and I cater to mostly an American audience who use the imperial system and it made things so much harder for me to convert the measurements into. But now I can finally say that I am fluent in both.

Extremely useful, of all the video's this was most useful. In short all u need to do ur life more simple is to remember the "golden rule" i.e. "1/16". and go on counting every line like 1/16, 2/16, 3/16, 4/16....... Then use ur math (division) e.g. 2/16 = 1/8'' or 4/16 = 1/4''. Dr. Dixon that was extremely useful.

No doubt, and to avoid confusion with the first foot of the tape that is in 32nds, use the fraction rule to get matching length for 16s,-say something is 4 and 7/16", converted, equals 4 and 14/32". You look on the tape and its exact same length

Yes. Then reduce until you get an odd number in the numerator. Her example of 12/16 shows why 11/16 and 13/16 are on each side. We just call them by the reduced name always. :-)

I can't thank you enough. I've tried to learn this from other sources and even had someone try to explain it to me in person. I've been intimidated and confused for years and you somehow not only explained it in a way that made sense to me but made it easy! Thanks to you i really get it and will be committing your explanation to memory and sharing it with anyone else who doesn't know how to read a measuring tape. Thank you so much!

I can't believe I'm a college graduate --and now a retired senior-- who just now learned how to read "the little lines" on the ruler! I can't decide if I should be proud of myself for learning something new or ashamed I hadn't learned it before. Yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks! Thank you for teaching me something new.

Finally got it & I'm 57 yrs old. Just decided to make a serious attempt to learn something I'd put off forever 🤗🤦🏿‍♂️🤸🏿‍♂️. Thank you for making it so simple. Just watched another video & and the individual was somewhat condescending with his remarks about those who hadn't learned this already. Not the way to get ppl interested in learning anything! Sometimes ppl just allow fear to take over their belief that they can accomplish something. It's NEVER TOO LATE TO LEARN!!!
