Yup. Mice get in there and make a nest by the starter.
After three times it wouldn’t start for all the nesting material. I remembered someone saying they used the rope got it going then reduced speed with eco boost. And engaged the starter with the key and let it run engaged. And it fixed it somehow. I did the same. And it worked for me too.
I engaged it for like count of 15 about 5 times. It sounded better each time.
I sprayed a bunch of WD40 in there and it works ever since. No tear down. I have since put steel wool and screening in there and sprayed it all with WD40 to prevent rust. But also deter with smell. It works. That and poison blocks I put around it. Been fine ever since with battery on a Tender.

You can use a torch on the arrester to clean it, better yet toss it in the garbage

Pistion has to TDC to check valves and .003 for both valves

It can be at TDC but does not have to be. If one valve is open, the other is closed and can be adjusted
      Thanks for the comment

Curious, you never mentioned the hole in front plate was there already for propane fitting, or it has to be drilled.
    Great vid.

It was not prepped for propane...
      Thanks

Glenn, it’s the electric start motor. Although it sounds good, it is weak and is not turning the engine over fast enough to create spark. Had the exact same issue with one of mine.

So we took this Gen on an 11 day RV Trip in June and used it quite a bit. I shut it of to add gas and it would not restart until it cooled off. Ran for many hours .. A guy on the Honda Groups page on Facebook is convinced the magneto gap is too small, that is starting to make sense. When I get back to this project I will try to jump start it and spin the starter faster, but I think I'll end up re gapping the coil... Thanks for the comment.

Could you make a video on doing the gap also.

Glenn, your going to think I'm crazy but I would suggest two things. Firstly, have you checked the ignition switch or corrosion or water ingress? If not, that would be a good place to start. Secondly, the crank speed. When using electric start, the coil won't fire unless the crank speed is high enough. I know it sounds healthy, but it would be a good idea to connect it to known good battery to see if that changes anything. My EU3000 seems to crank a little faster then yours, but that could be just the video. Report back with what you find.

Not crazy... I ordered a new ignition switch on day one and it is scheduled to arrive today. I am 98% sure it's the problem. This is my second EU3000IS and I am sure the starter turns the engine fast enough. I can see a slow rotation might cause a weak spark in intermittent spark, this has no spark. I hope to at least take the time to install the new switch in the next couple days and see if I have a winner!

mine recently stopped starting with the electric start. Starts just fine with the pull chord. My one thing that is different is that when i turn my key, i get nothing. doesn't crank or anything. would this just be a bad battery?@@GlennsSpeedShop

HELP.... Can someone tell me, is the Intake Valve Stem suppose to have a Little Rotator Cap on the Top of the Valve Stem, exactly the way the Exhaust valve stem does? The parts break down only shows 1 on the Exhaust. But I find the Intake Rocker has way to much play side to side after the valve is adjusted. That cap part number is: ROTATOR, VALVE 14781-ZE1-000. Can someone advise me. My generator doesn't want to rev up and needs at least 2/3 choke even to keep it putting along at a very low RPM. I have set and reset these valves a dozen times. I think it is missing the rotator cap on the Intake Valve Stem.... ???

I have not had this that far apart ... I suggest looking up a parts exploded view on line for that part. Determine what GX Honda engine this is.. GX 390 or close.... then find the parts view and see if that stem cap is there or not...
      Good luck

I just replaced the control panel and coil. The recoil cannot spark. How do I fix this? My generator cannot start

I scored 3 of them for real cheap couple of weeks ago, all three ran but was neglected and had some kind of water in the tank and gunked up cab, Fast forward I have all three serviced and running good with tank all cleaned out. But, I notice, it seem to be running hotter than the other two, I have cleaned out the spark arrestor, swapped carb and plug but it still seem to be running hot. Could the valve adjustment cause something like that??

funny that you paid over twice what i paid for my 3 all together. Also my worst one seem to be in overall better condition than yours and yes mine did not come with a nest.. I sure did make a major score..😁😁
