“The degree to which we are willing to give Jesus access to what is deeply beneath the surface of our lives, is the degree to which we will experience freedom in Him.” 🙌🏽🔥

Wherever there is honesty before God and man there is beauty. This was beautiful and healing.

Love the premise of the book & look forward to reading. However, it is odd to present King David as an emotionally healthy person when he was a horrible father, adulterer & murder.

David was healthy that in spite of his deep failures, he came running back to God. Psalm 51 is a beautiful demonstration of a heart torn up because of one's own failures, no matter how awful. AND that gives hope to someone who thinks they are beyond help.....

"We are not very good at silence and solitude..." (minute 5:40). I admire his honesty and his willingness to reach out to the monastic Catholic tradition while remaining fully Protestant. Catholics don't fully appreciate their own twice millenial tradition so why not have Protestants take advantage of that same tradition and issue a wake up call for ALL Christians in the whole world? Modern Protestant churches have become WAY too loud and are becoming pagan with this worship of music for its emotional impact. It is VERY possible to both appreciate reverent, godly silence and at the same time have an intense, expressive spiritual life, social life and ministry to others. Check the book: "The Power Of Silence" by Cardinal Robert Sarah.

Pastor Pete, can you please be clear about the 3 symptoms of emotionally unhealthy spirituality. What do you mean by the wrong things? Like for me, I want to be something, so is it the wrong?

I own print , kindle, and audible versions for the book with the iceberg on the cover. The audible version isn’t an actual reading of the text. It’s a very good “talk” which follows the main parts of the text. If you are looking for a word for word reading, my kindle version is better, even though the computer isn’t as interesting a reader as Peter is a speaker.

Being in prayer to Jesus multiple times a day is a good thing. My concern is that this EHS replaces prayer with meditation. God called us to pray to Him, not be silent with Him. This program takes Christians away from prayer. That is bad.
-Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, Pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
-Matthew 6:7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.
-1 Timothy 2:8 Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing.
-Psalm 89:12-16 says,. " Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, O Lord. They rejoice in your name all day long; they exult in your righteousness.

Scott Brail, I encourage you to read the book. He’s not teaching meditation. On the contrary, he encourages a deeper communion with God that expands to a more continual connection rather than the basic concept of quiet time many of us have been taught to be satisfied with. While this is a very different concept than any other bible study you’ve ever done, it is theologically sound, and something most Christians desperately need. Many know the Bible but are not emotionally mature, and thus hindered in our effectiveness in our service and worship to the Lord.

"Be Still and know that I am God." Psalm 46:10
This is what we called being silent...nothing wrong with being silent before God, its Scriptural

You're not wrong. This study is much more about modern psychological analysis and thinking than Scripture. Quoting Ron Sider, not a good sign. To me, this looks like psychology with a Christian veneer.

    • @carrotstick1970

The book is not scriptural. His instruction to meditate and write what God tells him-only read Psalms. It’s a focus on ourselves, our own corrupt hearts. It is pathetic that the high-brow so-called enlightenment is passing as teaching on spiritual immaturity. It is a primer to apostasy.

I'm sick of people telling me I need to let God control my life through the power of the holy spirit. Then when nothing happens those same people turn around and tell me I need to step up to the plate and do my part.

I’m here a long time after you wrote this. I was in a church group with a lot of really smart people. Engineers, physicists, Doctors. It was amazing to me that these people who spent such a huge portion of their life spending a lot of energy and mental effort and time learning their trades thought that spiritual growth was some kind of automated process. Can’t God just do it all for me? Why would the knowledge of God and the pursuit of Him, the most unimaginably powerful, wise, loving person one could ever engage with require no effort on our part. Those efforts don’t make me righteous but they are an acknowledgment that I am a limited finite person with the ability to grow and that growth always is accompanied by my efforts.
