Southwick Wood (24th April 2024) - OH148

Traditionally a season opener for Early Purple Orchids but will a visit 7-10 days earlier than usual prove a mistake ? Also a brief visit to a new location to view EPOs on the grass verges around Ashton Wold, east of Oundle.

Early purple orchids here in Kent seen on the 27th of March ..
Last few days man orchids on an East facing bank are in flower

I went to Merry's Meadows last year for the first time - took an age to find the site! - and it was quite the haul of green-winged orchids. Hoping to get back there soon. Southwick looks *slightly* less muddy this year, perhaps 1 - 2% less?
