Many Christians read the scripture that says to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord and they think that means a person goes to heaven right away after they die. The body without the spirit is dead. The spirits present themselves to GOD but that doesn't mean they go to Heaven, because God is everywhere, until the Bible says that God fulfills heaven and earth. When one dies they go to the first hell or the grave, until the day of Judgement when their souls shall be called from the grave for Judgement, either having part in the first resurrection or the second.
