Very cool. Nice to hear the story from the photographer. I took a vacation to LA around 2000, and made sure i found this place, which i did. Historical.

That's great you were able to visit. There would have been people still living there in 2000, though the building was in increasingly bad shape. Did you get the chance to go into the lobby? Talk to anyone there?

@@missiontotransition641 if you still have the photos, we'd be so interested in seeing what it looked like then. There is a lot of documentation from a few years later, but mostly focusing on rotten wood, bugs and protest rallies, and not on the building itself.

Outstanding !!! The Morrison Hotel will live on. Please restore the lobby to original , maybe even make it into a mini Doors museum where folks can stop by and snap some pictures for a small fee. Thank you all so much, look forward to the updates.

Under prior ownership they let vandals access the interior and do a lot of damage, before the owners illegally gutted the building. Until work begins on returning this to its proper use as very affordable housing, the ground floor is secured. We'll share updates on the project and opportunities for the public to visit.

Relevant Group wanted to partially demolish the long vacant building--it's e-shaped and they wanted to make it a "u" with a courtyard in back as a party hotel surrounded by towers. This didn't happened. They did, however, send in a crew to gut the historic interior without permits or AQMD safety remediation during lockdown. Happy ending, even with the lost history.

Well, now it's gone. Bravo Los Angeles.

The Morrison is actually still standing. Early 20th century hotels in Los Angeles were built to be fireproof. No thanks to previous owners Relevant Group for illegally gutting the building and removing walls, doors, ceilings and fire doors which would have slowed yesterday's huge fire. But she is still standing, still beautiful, still 111 units of very affordable housing.
