    Brings back a lot of memories for me. I had a 42 back in 1955. I was 14 years old. That old flat head would start right up for me by going through the same process you just did. The spark advance cable was broken, so I had to turn the distributor by hand. I loved that old bike. I rode it to a track meet for our school about 4 miles away, and while there took a girl for a ride. Mine had the big buddy seat. We celebrated our 62 wedding anniversary the first of June this year. I have owned and ridden a lot of bikes over the years. My current ride is a 99 Softail Custom. At 80 years old, I do not do long rides any more, but enjoy riding for half our or so most days on the back roads around where we live a couple of miles from a small town.
    Thanks for the memories. Wish I still had mine. They are so unique.

      Thanks for sharing that, Jim - I absolutely loved hearing it. These bikes are more than just a “thing” we own, they become a part of our lives and help us mark the time. I often have memories and relate them to a bike (“that was when I had that Triumph!”). Yours sounds like a wonderful life so far! Hope it keeps getting better and better!

      Jim, sounds like your life is of a great novel. Boy meets girl on his old Harley, end up married 62 years. God bless, Jim.

      Aiin't that the truth. She is one of a kind. Still ride my 99 Softail Custom weather permitting. I still take her on dinner dates at least once a week.

      @@AlexanderLeaving great footage 🎥🎬🎞️ dude, This takes me back to my high school days, I modified And added a return spring to the throttle, mounted on a carburetor, My first Harley Davidson was from a Government auction, 1951 503 cc Pan head, completely stripped out, they were used postal rural routes ,, mine was in pristine condition, the low gear ratio gave it a lot of giddy up and go, but on the long Halls it didn't have necessary to make it a comfortable at about 55 mph or greater on the freeway 🇺🇸♥️ 🗽 that's one beautiful machine dude ‼️ I m impressed 👍👍‼️

    The old flat heads, from these to the Indian Chief's to the BSA M20's and Triumph TRW's are soooo smooth and reliable.

    Thank you so much, Sir! I have tried a lot to understand why The White Buffalo said "He's got one hand on the throttle
    The other on the brake" when they have sung their House of the Risinfg Sun version. Your video helped me find the answer I searched for!

    I love these bikes…it makes you to follow the process….discipline! I used to say that these motorcycles are stubborn and sensitive, rather they choose it’s rider, not the vice versa. ….

  • @chrislaws4785
    @chrislaws4785 ปีที่แล้ว

    That would REALLY mess me up BIG time trying to ride that thing for the first time. You have to put your RIGHT foot down when stopping so you can control the clutch with your left and you have to stop using your LEFT hand instead of your right. Everything is essentially backwards from modern bikes.

  • @mikem6562
    @mikem6562 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve heard the clutch referred to as a “toe to go” clutch. I believe Indian motorcycles were the opposite, “heel to go” and did so to avoid copyright.

    Love the video man! Thanks a lot for the explanation, can you explain what the benefit is for the advance sparks? And on a scale of 1/10 how much can you advice getting a wla/wlc etc for a motorcyclist thinking to go from a ‘90’s bobber with al the mondern(er) chokes and electric start to go on a ‘45 WL?
    Cause i’m really thinking about getting a WLC project bike
    Sorry for any wrong grammer/ misspellings, i’m european 😅

    So with that clutch setup could
    You have it in gear at a light and put both feet down without it taking it off.

    Is the headlight turned on by turning the knob more to the right?

      Yes - one click for ignition on, and one more for headlight on.
