My friends and I call them “Low budget deviants” because they’re just shitty versions of the deviants from MHGU but less cool and much more simplified. The only one that’s not a low budget deviant is Apex Mizutsune, but he’s still kinda boring to fight since all that changes is that he causes hellfire now and is a damage sponge
As much as I love rise and Sunbreak, the apexes just frustrate me to no end… it as a system can be so much more yet they did nothing with them And ya they are ugly… like a black/darker version of the base monster. What are we, some edgy kids? Except apex zinogre, he is beautiful, especially when he is slapping my ass cheeks
Their creation confuses me so much. Why choose monsters that had deviants, give them the same gimmicks/moves, but not actually make them the deviants. I want to say that it was made out of time/budget restraints, but the deviants wouldn’t fit the whole Ibushi storyline like these guys do. I guess they just wanted to copy the move sets.
Woulda called Deviant Volvidon Pulverizer Volvidon. The lore on this one would be that it’s a Volvidon that lived long enough to master its ability to roll to the point that it can combo with it. Its shell would be more of a dark brownish red, and it would combo its tongue whips into its rolls. But it would get its name from being able to slam itself from its jumps so hard it would create craters and large tremors. But alas, my rolly Polly boi was left out
Cool concept but I’d say change the name. It doesn’t follow the trend of how deviants are named. They all have two words. Stonefist, Dreadqueen, Bloodbath, Thunderlord. Something like Devilshell Volvidon would fit the theme better!
I didn't enjoy deviants in GU so the Apex didn't bother me. Them not having weapons and Amor was a good thing to me because it ment I could ignore them like I do for Arena quest. With all that said, the one thing I HATE about Rise/Sunbreak is forced Wyvern riding mechanic. I know Sunbreak eventually gave us the ability to not wyven ride, but monsters still run across the map to start this BS. Its so rage inducing to be fighting a monster, then it turns arould, run to the opposite end of the mouth to start an event I don't care about.
I really would have appreciated them bringing back the deviants as classic hunt quests. And, it's not like they couldn't, they did remake Raging Brachy in Iceborne, and he had his gear and everything.
As big of Rise hater as I am since I quite literally hate almost every feature in this game. Wyvern Ride, wirebugs, the rampage, Temu Deviants, over reliance on counters, qurio crafting, frost craft returning I thought I was free from that, dung pods being quite literally useless, no hot/cold drink, worst iteration of the LS thanks to quick sheathe, and a garbage story even by normal MH standards that wasnt even finished till 3.0. But at least the new roster was mostly good looking at you goss harag and malzeno.
I can't blame you for disliking wthat you dislike, story should have been completed at release for sure. Covid was the reason it wasn't and perhaps they should have delayed it, but regardless of that we've had worst stories in MH. Also I don't see why quick sheathe made it the worst longsword, or the issue with frost craft and think qurio craft hate is overblown, but that's just me.

Though, I can definitely see how they messed up with the Apexes with listening to the video. I am glad you are fair to Risebreak as much as you were with World. I can definitely see it that way especially with the past games in mind. I can hope that they don't make that mistake again especially with Apexes and stuff like that when it comes to monsters. Bloodbath Diablos' lore is very interesting, though. It brings a lot of motivation to take it down if so. Awesome video, Nova. As fair as ever to both of these games.
How are you fighting master rank apexes past Rathian? Cause I can only get Arzuros and Rathian in my anomaly investigations. I wanna fight them all man. Are they like level 200 or something?

Wrecking Ball Volvidon? Or if you want a name more similar to the other bears, Demolisher Volvidon or Ironback Volvidon. Their shells has hardened and become incredibly dense/heavy to the point where they can just Cool-Aid Man their way through castle walls, hence the name. Alternatively perhaps Demonshell Volvidon, which has grown spikes/horns on his shell so it has better traction when rolling around, and the bounce attack maybe even shoots a few spikes out whenever he slams down. If you're too close when you get hit with the tongue attack you could land on his spiky back and take even more damage. I love the bear trio and would like to see them all come back in the future. In 4U G-rank Multiplayer I even used Volvidon's switchaxe because of the high paralysis status, which was such a gamechanger for the group I played with back then.

What? Apexes aren't the end game. At least not anymore. Like the only apex you have to fight is Arzuros once in the story and that's it. Aside from them apearing in anomaly guest they're not ever relevant after that
@yourdad5799 Weren't they supposed to be the late game of Rise as opposed of the Afflicted in Sunbreak ? Short Edit : Maybe "challenge" would fit more then, the Apex being a challenge that reward you with nothing this plus it being behind the tower defense at first, I just hit my limit. Tried to play Sunbreak on release but again I dropped right after the Malzeno because of other thing (very subjective/irrelevant to that discussion)

Yea Zinogre is the only one I'd give a succeeding grade to, I'm not even mad when he's slapping me up.
