I get the sense that trolls ARE fire giants that have simply been purged of their fell biology. Kinda like those cave lizards you see on Planet Earth that have lost thier eyes and skin pigment because they have no use for them anymore. They still have eye sockets, but their bodies are changing in real time to adjust to thier new reality.
I love how nearly every creature in this game is capable of human intelligence, unlike most other fantasy settings where you fight mostly mindless monsters. However this does make it extra appalling that the golden order has enslaved so many, such as the trolls, omens, misbegotten and albinaurics.
I'd argue there is a good chance most of those smart creatures used to be human or humanoid. Death doesn't stick in these worlds and many creatures seem to take on aspects of what they eat. Not to mention humanoids can turn into dragons by eating dragon hearts, and several creatures spontaneously change after being killed(then dropping larval tears). Shits wack yo.
If they weren't bent to the will and servitude of the golden order and their advanced civilization, they would most likely descend into barbarism and savagery, as is evident that they did exactly that after the shattering. It's better that they are controlled and harnessed to noble purpose by the golden order instead of being left to their primitive devices.
Why does nobody mention that the fire giants were killed by deathblight? Isn’t it kinda weird that the golden order used the phenomena that killed godwyn the golden to kill the fire giants? You’d think they’d find deathblight…. Idk sacrilegious or something.
Yeah the vines and thorns definitely appear to be deathroot trees, I definitely noticed, but I forgot to mention it here, I have it in the notes tho I'm kicking myself in the head hahah

i personally think they are briars of judgement, as that line of spells were developed in the forbidden lands. im thinking they created the spells and died using them in desperation in the war, as you have to stab yourself in the gut to cast briars. then later the fire cult dudes probably inherited the spells. i just think that the thorns and vines on the giants are too thick whereas death blight are smaller and are in made of multiple vines
There is reoccurring imagery of the Golden Order using thorns to punish the 'guilty'. I imagine deathblight might be reserved for their most hated foes, such as the giants who worshipped another god and posed a threat to the Erdtree with their flame.
I’m liking the bits of humor thrown into parts of the video, a dryer speech inflection can be good for that sarcastic humor like saying they got a PS5 in their stomach, gave me a good laugh
the slab... the slab... i would have never noticed! i hope the prometheus-like evisceration narrative becomes more conclusive, maybe upon further inspection of contrasting factions or even future dlc
Zullie the witch pointed out that the slabs in their chest may not have a meaning but simply serve as a mount attach point for the cart trolls, so fromsoft could use the mounting system to link trolls to the cart.
I mean, there's lore and there's unused mechanics. They're not mutually exclusive, and it's possible to have mounting points that *don't* look like a void of guts at the spot where the fell god of fire would be.
One thing to add that supports this is that if you go into the heroes grave of the mountain tops, there will be troll bodies on the walls that don't have the stone tablets, meaning they originally didn't have these until they themselves were betrayed
Madman is getting to be my favorite lore guy. I appreciate this approach of mid-long form lore. It has a more grounded, player centered perspective to game lore that is less dry than more intensive loreists and more relatable to people such as myself. The humor is great and I really get the sense that madman really formed much of his content firsthand, and not from bouncing around the same reddit think tank talking points and speculation many other lore channels provide. Love your channel, the sub has been well earned.
Remember how intimidating these things were at the start? Now I use the five behind the Warmasters Shack for farming if I'm short a couple of thousand runes.
I think the trolls are roots that collected around grave stones and over time this build of souls gave rise to life. The black flame let's spirits rest and the fell flame destroys them the chaos flame eats them
Another awesome video, really enjoyed it and I learned some new stuff! 1 thing I wanted to point out that I didn't see in this video are the large skeletal heads all around the lands between. The skull im referencing most easily found is the one at on the cliffside near Sellia in Caelid. The creature this skull must have belonged to points towards a Giant even larger than the Fire Giants. Its possibly evidence of an ancestor giant or indicates that current Giants can become absolutely massive given the proper time. Maybe these larger Giants existed during the Prehistoric Age of Dragons? One other thing is the Skeletal Giants that i didn't see touched on. That indicates at least that even giants controlled by Those Who Live in Death can use them for their benefit, even so far as having them shoot lasers out of their mouths. Would really love to see a video on that Faction and all the details on Those Who live in Death and the Death Birds ETC.
Great content as usual. FWIW, you're the only creator I've seen who invites people who dislike his videos to click the thumbs down. Not that I ever would...
Good shit my guy, all I watch on TH-cam these days is Elden ring lore videos. Yours are quality 👍 and you go in depth on a lot of the lesser known characters which is great too
I completely missed the ones hanging in stormveil and on the road to volcano manor and around Mt gelmir. Also the headless ones that appear to be guarding the four belfries
Kinda interesting that the frenzy-giants don't have any fur. Could be that they are all from the lower lands and then migrated back to the mountains at some point. Also the only other place I have seen one is right outside Volcano Manor.
We never meet Ranni's assigned Carian knight, actually. Ranni's servants include(d): • Darriwil, a Bloodhound Knight who at first chose to serve Ranni, then betrayed her in some way for unknown reasons, causing Blaidd to hunt him. • Blaidd, who is a shadow granted to an empyrean by the Two Fingers. So long as a given empyrean's goals serve the Greater Will, that shadow cannot truly die (try killing him in Radahn's arena after the battle and rest at the grace, I dare you). • Seluvis, obligated as a Preceptor to serve Ranni, though we can see he's mired in the shadiest business and conspires to see Ranni a true doll. • Iji, War-Counselor of the Carian Royal Family. Very little is known about him personally, but he gradually reveals to you the history of Caria, with the implication he lived through it. Bloodhound Knights are an order separate of Caria, ruling out Darriwil. Blaidd came from the Two Fingers and ultimately can't disobey them, so he's off the table. Preceptors were known to be subservient to Radagon foremost, so it's very unlikely Rennala would have chosen one as a royal knight for Ranni. Iji's status as war counselor, not to mention age, and lack of a sword bestowed upon a knight, likely rules him out from being Ranni's specific royal knight. Rennala's royal knight Moongrum stood the academy grounds and kept the sorcerers of the academy from advancing on the queen. If his armor is indicative of the style for Carian Royal Knights, it stands to reason that the cliffside shrine from which we loot that armor could be where Ranni's knight rests. It's also possible she never got one.
You forgot Adula, who swore loyalty to Ranni. Doesn't get us any closer to finding out her assigned knight (or if she even had one), but I noticed he wasn't on the list.
bro i was pissed too, i made that clip to look at the weird trees growing out of the giants and wasnt paying attention to the fight but in editing i noticed it and was instantly disappointed in myself

Sweet video bro. The consistent uploads and chill lore discussions are great. Think you can find anything on the worm faces or the bloodhound knights
Wormfaces were results from Godwyn's influence & BH knights don't have much info except for them going rabid if they don't find someone to serve.
Definitely want to do something on the wormfaces. And I never thought about doing one on the bloodhound knights, that's a good idea
Perhaps the slabs are there to physically block the fell god’s faces from regrowing?
