- This pen was kindly lent to me by www.appelboom.com - thank you! Please note that the pen actually comes with a solid gold nib--although it is unmarked--which justifies the price more.

As always, very good and accurate review. I have the Maiora Mitho Origine, an homage of the former owner of Delta to his own Dolce Vita design. Like the one you reviewed, it has a steel nib but I got at an unbeatable price (
Pen prices have gotten out of hand. This is a perfect example of it. When you compare this pen with a Delta Medium size piston filler at half the price, you can gauging by the same company.
Yes, I agree. Gold nip for that price range for me. Thanks for the review.
Dr. Brown you read my mind about the #8 nib. Same nervous feeling about an ivory piston filler. You think of everything. I appreciate your reviews.
Totally agree with you about the the lack of gold nib being a real negative at that price point. If a gold nib were available I bet it would add about $150.00 to the price. (no VAT), making the price about $600.00+. If it were available for $350-$400 w/ the gold nib it would be much more interesting...imo. thank you for the informative review.
Always excellent content. So much so, that I save watching your videos until I can do so quietly and uninterrupted.
I agree Stephen. For that price I would expect a gold nib
I believe all the Maiora Notte Lunas have 14k nibs. I own one and it has a good nib for the price mentioned in the video.
Nice pen but at that Price Range for sure a gold nib or no sale. Thanks for the review, and BTW I just left a comment on the Desiderata Shootout. Thanks for that review and sorry for the delay.
Interesting review, especially since the previous review was of the Gioia; both are piston fillers, both with steel nibs and yet such a price spread between them. Certainly the Gioia comes out the "winner" .
Thanks for the review these really help when deciding where to spend the cash🙂
My country is a strange country. Because you can buy that pen, the 14k model, at a cheaper price(581,000.00KRW≒392.00EUR) than in Italy.
Very fair review for a brand I like a lot but I think has issues that continue over the years. I own two Alpha and one Aventus, all from 2-3 years ago, and all of them came with some sort of imperfection or outright flaws like a misalligned finial, nib plating that chipped away within weeks, and a barrell with multiple micronotches. I love the pens though; my Alpha OroArancio and OroBlu are always inked and travel together, the Aventus has a great section and posts very deeply for a pen that size, and all of them write well and on the wet side.
Customer service is non-existant and that is a major issue for a company that produces a lot of limited and special editions at those prices. The earlier models, however, are on sale almost everywhere and for around 150-200 both the Aventus and the Mythos are great buys.
Excellent points; thank you for sharing your experience with the brand. Ahhhh the OroArancio…I can dream about you, if I can’t hold you tonight. 😴
The hallmarks on the center band are because the band is vermeil (silver plated/gilt with gold). The markings are for the silver. This same type of band is found on Delta pens… particularly the Dolce Vita. Though it is a well made pen, I agree it seems a bit expensive for a steel nibbed pen.
Hi Dr Brown I have just looked on the Appleboom website as the price did seem high.. they are saying it's a 14kt gold nib. I looked elsewhere and that seems to be case throughout 🤔
Absolutely agree Doc Brown. €487 with a steel nib seems a bit much. The pen is a looker for sure and the materials look quality but I’d pay no more than $200 for a niche pen like that.
Thank you. Very attractive pen. A bit pricey although.
Yes, at this price a gold nib is required, not just desired.
I agree. At that price point without a gold nib and a rough edge it is pricy. I like the looks though. Looks alone wouldnt justify me buying that pen however.
I like the alabaster look of the pale plastic, but at that price I would expect a superlative writing experience, or a very well tuned nib and feed at the least.
I haven't used a great many gold nibs, but I don't see much of a point to them, save for the unique abilities (flex) of vintage nibs.
As far as the nib goes, my rule is that if the pen is $300.00 or more and doesn't have a gold nib, I won't even consider it, no matter how pretty it is. I have several pens I bought for under $300.00 with gold nibs. Why would I pay $500.00 for a plastic pen and steel nib? That may sound rather arbitrary, but that's the way it is. I already have plenty of pens that I love. Above $300.00 it has to tick every box, especially the nib.
That’s a rather handsome pen.
Lovely pen, but Iv agree it’s too pricey.
Should be gold somewhere for $400
for that price it better be real ivory
Aaa naa neee.....eeeee
Making just a costly PenBody for the Steel Jowo nib unit is morally wrong at this point in time, throughout the years we've seen way better Jowo nibs and writing way better than this one, don't know what were the makers thinking while making it. Not a pleasurable writer it seems.
