Good to see you again! Next friday my wife and I are starting with our 99 Africa Twin our Christian-Memorial tour........ through your beautiful country. From Timi., Eisenmarkt, the 2 big Trans, Sibiu, Sighi, Bicacs, Satu Mare.....Maybe we see us on the road, stay safe, greetings from Graz, Christian
Ian from Big Rock Moto just bought new 890R for himself and has done a really good review of it. On some if his first off road riding a rock punctured the OEM skid plate around the gas tank and also punctured his engine case causing all the oil to leak out. Be careful...the OEM skid plate will not work for off road riding. Make sure to put an aftermarket heavy duty skid plate on the bike before going off road. Great video..
@@blainecybulski4155 ran on one cylinder upon cold starts for about the first minute or so. Fuel petcock fell apart leaking fuel everywhere. Cam chain tensioner failed and KTM had no replacements or even an estimate of when they would be available. High speed stability sucked at 90 MPH+, even after trying various rear ride heights/preload adjustments, and checking wheel trueness and having front wheel retrued. Wind management was horrible - I realize how bad after buying the T7. Front fork was excessively harsh, deflecting off of sharp edges, sometimes pretty violently, even with adjusters softened up. After hitting a deer (glancing blow mostly on the protruding fuel tank - didn't take out the front wheel or go down) the last repair part (side body panel) took something like 5-7 months as I recall to finally come in. The cam chain tensioner dead-lining the bike with no repair parts in sight was the last straw. I sold in an "unsaleable condition" for a substantial loss.
Got to test the 890r and 901 expedition from ATVRom. I can say I prefer the 901 because I like the feeling of being in the bike and not on the bike, if that makes sense. Compared to my Desert X the KTM felt cheaply made even if the engine itself felt great. If you want to test ride the Desert X give me a pm, I live in Bucharest, Piata Victoriei.
Do you find the heat to be a deal breaker. I have single cylinder bikes so there is no heat really. Would it be quite an issue for you if you owned it compared to other bikes you’ve ridden?
Love your comments, are there no philanthropists out there that wants to sponcer an old man from south africa in buying one these that I can never afford ,just dream about 😢
These are killer engines, my 890R has 18,000 miles on it At oil change time, at 7500 miles or so, the oil is hardly dis-colored. There are zero fragments on either the 2 screens or the filter. 56 mpg can be done easily, giving a 265 mile range to the gas tank. The heat thing, somehow Ive never noticed, its no hotter than any other motorcycle Ive ridden. I fit springs to fit my 170lb weight, which for sure helped the ride. Very firm suspension in stock form. The bike likes to haul ass...................low rpm issue? I dont get that. @ 1500 rpm mine is pulling enough to pick the front end up quickly. The gearing would be tall if this is your dirtbike.

Great video..
He didn't. He bought the standard model.
Now Ian has the ‚R‘ also
Please tune down the music 10 dB
I wanted one, but only until I got one. Riding a T7 now. Good riddance to the 890R.
What problems did you have? Looking to purchase one here in Canada.

Same here, not a fan of sitting on top of the bike.
If I had to buy one of these it would be the Husky.
i traded down in size (some) from a 1090r , well set up i rode for 32000miles , to a husky 901 last year , this bike is amazing , awesome bike
When you were riding on the rutted track, the suspension didn't seem to give much. It looked a bit hard. What do you think?

What tires are they? And size?
