As much as I love, admire, and respect Kathy Bates, after this interview with Stephen Colbert, it has doubled my love, admiration, and respect. Thank you Stephen!

fr Dolores Claiborne made me feel all kinds of way as a kid from an abusive household. It's one of my most satisfying sort of movies, as awful as the subject matter is.

Kathy, I recited the Litany Against Fear with you, arms raised in triumph! The Dune series is important to me. Another quote that deeply resonates is: "Muad'Dib learned rapidly because his first training was in how to learn. And the first lesson of all was the basic trust that he could learn. It's shocking to find how many people do not believe they can learn, and how many more believe learning to be difficult. Muad'Dib knew that every experience carries its lesson" I often fear I'm stupid, or can't learn things, because PTSD kind of eats your brain. But I'm wrong. And this quote from the first Dune book reminds me that even though it's frustrating because I have to work harder than others and look for different ways to learn than before what led to my diagnosis, I can still learn. Because I have the basic trust that I _can_ learn! Frank Herbert has a lot of true gems in that series! I'm glad to find two more fans!
"My son didn't really see *the future*; he saw the process of creation and its relationship to the myths in which men sleep. ... He refused to accept only that which comforted him because that was moral cowardice." This is Jessica's teaching to Prince Farad'n in "Children of Dune". Seemed relevant. You are not accepting what comforts you, you are pushing the limits of what you think your mind is capable of. Keep pushing on, and to the 7 hells with PTSD! You got this! 🤘ö7
the silence in the audience was so real, in a good way, everyone was realy listening and enjoying the interview and the sensibility and thoughtfulness. I like Kathy Bates so much, and everyone can relate to the things she shares about herself. Now I have to watch her show :)
I loved the pilot on Kathy Bates new series! Looking forward to more episodes. GREAT American actress - so glad she is still acting and revealing such great characters and adding to haunting, entertaining, and powerful stories.
Interesting that they talk about the Impostor Syndrome, as you have already found out, or will find out, when you see that first MATLOCK episode. I loved it!
that would be wonderful ... you've made me smile and now I'm kinda looking forward to dying ... I need the transcription of the show or I need to read Dune. thank you for
Kathy Bates is a great actress and beautiful woman, inside and out. Can’t wait to see what she brings to us with Matlock! I would like to share my take on fear. The take on fear from Dune…very eloquent. Me, as a 67 yr. old lady, I like to keep things simple…so here you go. ‘Fear is nothing more than a figment of our hallucination’. . Smiling and waving from the top of the Poconos. Peace out and be kind to yourselves and others! Hi, Stephen! Really miss you when you’re gone!
This is why when we talk about Late Night greats, Stephen has to be on the top of that list. He has an ability to help us be introspective that few hosts do well, if at all.
I used to sit at my grandmother’s feet as a child; just to listen to her. I asked her many questions; and drank in her wisdom. I’m the older one now…….listen to us……we are obligated to pass on what we’ve learned to the young. I knew she had much to teach me….and I heard her…..grandfather, too. I learned much about how to pray in my life. She taught me to pray. I took it further and learned so much more about it. This is too long. I’ll drop what I’ve learned each day somewhere. Love You. God Bless You.❤❤❤
Kathy Bates is the epitome of a Lady. I love the beauty that flows out of her and with her spirit! I'd listen to her quote list on a continual loop in my perfect life!

Thank you, Stephen for asking her this question. Thank you, Kathy for sharing this intimate knowledge. I really needed this great advice during a very dark time in life. 4:02
The pilot was really good! I enjoyed it. I’ll be watching this show through. I really hope that her new show has so much success. She’s a phenomenal actor and I’ve always loved her work. ❤️
I adore Kathy Bates and will watch anything she’s in. Loved the pilot so much have watched it twice so far. Easy for me to forget that someone with so much amazing talent feels fear too.
Lovely interview and its such a heavy moment when they bring out the Dune quote, but the translation at 3:41 of "I am a fraud" became "I am a frog" and I can't stop laughing
My husband has that quote memorized - or did, 20 years ago. We were staying in a barn-turned-apartment of a friend and it turns out there were tons of spiderwebs and cobwebs high up around the rafters. He ran out, but he used this prayer from Dune to calm down and we stayed & had a great time. (I kinda needed it too.)
She really did deliver it right too. Nobody does, and it annoys me in a pedantic way. It really seemed seemed like she BELIEVES in the quote, instead of just a surface reading. It felt good to hear it read with meaning, and I really hope -Sisterhood of- Dune: Prophecy OR Part 3 delivers the right feel I've been looking for. Dune Part 1/2 did not, despite being absolute masterpieces of cinematography, they were a bit lackluster on the essence, and they changed (I believe) too much. I've been inundated with the same mediocracy that infiltrates Hollywood for quite a while. That may be a bit of a hot topic, but I want "to be surprised, to have a new thing occur, that is what I desire most. … New! Isn't that a radiant, a wonderful word?" (Dune Book 4: God Emperor of Dune)
I love the feel of the show and I am a die hard fan of the original. My friend and I play a video game together and they have this quote on their profile and I had no idea where it came from until now. Thanks Kathy and Stephen. So true and makes perfect sense.
Love her work a lot more than his to be honest .. she's a lot more experienced and smarter .. honestly she's one of those types that can make any role she plays totally believable
