just came across this old video, bought a ctx 2 months ago from explorers , , a new learning curve ,.... now mastering the ctx read all the books . watched loads of videos, nice to see what gold reads out on the CTX i can relax i aint found and gold yet only because i have not passed my search head over any !!!!
Great video and I appreciate your thoroughness. Could you do another video with different metals/shapes and then show us a graph? What settings do you use? Thx
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS, i HAVE FOUND GOLD, BUT i HAVE NOT BEEN DIGGING THE LOW 12'S sorry about the caps. I generally find pull tabs in the 12.15 range and foil in the 12.01-03 range. I will change my procedure and see what I have missed.
Thank you really help me out now I know what to look for in numbers. maybe if you try as a 6 inch coil it might be even better after smaller pieces of gold
Hi Stuart...must admit I was starting to loose the will toward the end there, it did go on a bit lol. I did a lot of shallow water hunting when I lived in Spain but none here in the UK yet, just haven't had the time to get out there, maybe next summer and maybe when we head back to Spain :-)
very informative video and great machine. . congrats!!! it's interesting how different the tones are on this detector compared to the similar readouts. . .by the way you got more gold on your table than fort knox ;) GL&HH with it :) hans
Thank you Hans, I'm still learning this machine and it's early days, I've lots to learn, lots of tones :-) The video is probably of more interest to CTX owners and I only really made this video for the club members because they pestered me so much, I'm thinking it's probably a bit boring after a while for non owners. I'm on a Saxon site on Sunday so if anything interesting pops up, I'll make another video, so we will see!
i'm very interested in metal detectors so it wasn't boring for a second. . . good luck on your sunday hunt! go and find some saxon relics :) GL&HH! hans
TerraGermania I was out with the CTX on Sunday and I must admit it’s hard to get used to trusting discrimination and not just digging everything which I pretty much did :-) but in saying that it was spot on with identifying all the sheep tubes and other bits of junk on the site….no gold but a bit of a heart stopper when a gold gilded and enamelled heraldic brooch came out…very deep and from under tree roots, thought Saxon or medieval but on closer inspection it was Manchester United Football Club….I’m such an optimist :-)
you will get used to the machine soon! i remember that i was always confused with my new detectors. . .but it's a great moment when you start to realise that you finally understand the machine and to get confidence. . haha. . lovely story about your manu brooch! great moments! you get excited and the next moment you reallise what it is. . .i always thend to be over optimistic :D best wishes, GL&HH! hans
4:05 I've got a 9ct (stamped 375) earing my daughter found on Scarborough beach. Its about 1" long and she found it with her Garrett Ace150. My Minelab CTX won't see it at all. It doesn't matter what settings I use it just won't see it, period! I think its a real downfall of the CTX, I'm missing good targets here. We're talking about spending 15x the money for something that can fail to find the gold.
Great video! Helped me understand that most gold jewelry comes in rather low on the CTX. I will start digging more low targets as so far I focused more on the higher ones in hope for silver and to avoid trash. I was just wondering if the pile of jewelry close to the coil may have produced some kind of interference as the video progressed?
Benjamin Nutz hi and glad you found it useful. As far as the pile of jewellery goes, I don't think it interfered with the results and wouldn't have made any difference to the ID. Thanks for watching, regards Phil 👍
thanks for the answer, Phil. I guess you are right on the interference, plus you had the sensitivity down quite a bit so I guess it didnt make a difference. I habe another question, tho. Do you think the second number, the one that changes most, (since the first one is usually 12 on a good target) is more affected by size than composition? i have noticed that when I find lower grade gold its usually higher ID because the mixed element will be higher in conductivity. that explains why in your video the low grade jewelry has higher ID numbers. Nonetheless I have a friend here in Taiwan where we detect that found a 24k gold ring that was 11g heavy. it is very big and we confirmed the gold purity. it consistently comes in at 12.47. I think mass is also an important factor, even if the gold is high purity (usually lower Id) but massive, the CO number will still go up. so target size is actually tricky factor. what is your experience on this?
Thanks for posting such an informative video. I presume much of your gold was recovered from beaches or in the sea. I wonder what ID numbers you would get from a particular item in air compared with in normal and black sand (in both wet and dry conditions). I imagine significant differences but, what does a land lubber like me know? I was going to construct a spread sheet from your data but decided my time might be better spent out and about with my CTX. Again, I appreciate your sharing of the information. Dave
Hi Dave and pleased you found the video informative. Regarding the ID numbers and the differences, the basic ID does not change wherever it is detected but what I have noticed is that when something is detected in the ground, especially where the ground is mineralised the ID jumps about a bit and will smear over a larger ID range, then as you make repeated passes over the target, it becomes more defined and becomes pretty much the same. Where there is something else very close and there are in effect two targets in the hole you can see the two targets smear together. I have found the more I use the CTX the more the strange ID signals make sense and the experiments more useful. Regards Phil
Thanks Phil, for the further information. I love the CTX but have found the learning curve quite steep. This has not been helped by my star sign being Gemini and I do tend to jump back and forth between my CTX and my Deus! I do the same with two expensive cameras. I have always said "use one machine (be it detector or camera) and get to know it inside out but, sadly, I don't listen to my own advice! In my defence and acknowledging "luck" I have recovered a number of gold coins ranging from full Stater to Victorian Sovereign. Kind regards, Dave
rmcsandhurst I know what you mean, took me ages to choose the CTX but the Deus was my other choice (would have gone for the Excalibur for the sea), so light and fast to use, you can cover a lot of ground quickly on a rally but the careful slow approach of the CTX goes deeper and finds what's been missed. Funny you should mention cameras, we were talking with friends about this last night. I've had quite a few DSLR's over the years but hate to say I only use my iPhone now.....well it's always with me. The photographs might not be technically as good but with careful use, practice and within the cameras abilities and strengths the results are amazing....the above video was done on my iPhone. Phil
ThePhilandPam - First tnx. for the video ! But can you make a another video whit same gold's , in ground , to see how deep can reach this targets , and then what for number will show on the screen ? Becouse that will be a REAL and perfect test for such experiment.
M Best Hi and sorry but I sold the CTX years ago and got a Deus so I can't do any further tests using the CTX. Have to say the Deus is a fantastic machine, not as versatile but certainly more pleasant to use, very capable too, just got my first Hammered Gold, have a look at my latest video 👍
hmmm u kill me me whit one shot :) , from 3030 to Deus , i can say only WOW :) .... but the interesting is that you find first hamered gold coin , that is more important , i was always in wonder why the mylab users hardly or almost never found realy gold.... becouse my naber have a Explorer the other naber have a E-trac , they found silver whit no problem but gold :) not much , allmost never :) ... becouse that im in wonder too ! Im from Balkan lands in Europe here is history enough , and if sombare not find gold whit years that mean , something is realy WRONG !!! Normaly im not Deus fan , but that whit hammered gold coin , hmmm make me to thing deepli :)
i forget to thank you , for your replay ! THANK YOU :) , be happy and have a nice catch whit your new mashine :) , if you find me in facebook i can show you some my finds from my land ;) .... nick name: True Light ( caricature is one young boy how do pee on facebook icon )
M Best hi and there's nothing wrong with the CTX, I have friends in Spain who find plenty of gold right now but all in the sea, one thing is for sure, there isn't that much gold in the ground around here so you don't find much. There's more in the sea over there so you find more, if it's not there you can't find it 🤔 I got the Deus because the CTX was just too heavy, I damaged an elbow joint detecting in the sea and just couldn't cope with the weight of the CTX. All the best and good luck out there 👍
Good time of day. I am from Russia. Buddy, tell me, I want to buy a 3030 device and I will walk on the sea beach (salt water). On the video I see that the device has a good, clear signal. Your opinion as a user?! Is it worth buying minelab 3030?! I have aquinox 600, but I'm not very happy with it....
Hi and I think for the sea the 3030 is definitely the better machine, and definitely better than the Equinox 600, I had an Equinox 800 for a while and although good on land it was single frequency only in the sea, poor discrimination and I didn't think it went that deep. good luck out there 👍
@@ThePhilandPamThank you, Brotherly heart, for helping 🤝🙏👍 And then I wanted to buy, or 3030, or Manticore. Judging by the videos, Manticore is higher than Aquinox, but no better than 3030 in my opinion!!!! Manticore takes more in depth, but the signal does not consistently show. Maybe I'm wrong?! P.S. of the development of your channel!!!!! Video 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🙏🤝🤝🤝🤝🇬🇧🇷🇺🤝🤝🤝🤝Thank You, My Friend!!!!!
So do you have to extract all the pull tubs and aluminum paper to get gold? Or do you have some trick? I have the ctx! Thank for your video. Best wises from spain
Hi , how does it compare to x terrestrial 705 and do you recommend buying it? Tx for video and hope you do another with trash and coins as someone else mentioned Regards Roy nz
Hi Roy and firstly I'm not sure about the 705, I've never used one but the 3030 I would say after a years use goes deeper and is more versatile than anything out there. The problem I have is that after swinging a Garrett sea hunter for five years, I think I wrecked the joints in my elbow and wrist to such a point I just couldn't swing the 3030 effectively for more than a few hours even with a harness, so I've had to let it go. I'm using a Deus now which is ultra light and a real pleasure to use so I may be uploading another vid in the future but it's likely to be Deus based. See if you can borrow a 3030 before you buy or maybe go on one of the tuition days to make sure you are happy with it, fantastic machine and I miss it 👍
Hi there Jason, it's early days for the CTX and also I'm in the UK for a while so no gold yet and no favourite settings or programmes either, I keep modifying and fine tuning :-)......the gold was found with my Sea Hunter, great machine but no discrimination and needs a constant supply of new coils and headphone lol
Hi Nokia, I think the best thing you can do is join one of the online forums like Gary's CTX forum, just do a Google search and you will find it. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people who can give a great insight into how to get the best from your CTX and exactly how it works and interpreting the numbers on the screen. Good luck with the CTX, it's a fantastic machine 👍
+nikos bakalis I know you really didn't get an answer. Let me help to explain. The first number is the targets Ferrous (FE) content or reactivity. The second number is the targets Conductivity (CO) content or reactivity. So a high first number means it is (likely) an iron object. A high second number means a higher conductive content such as copper or silver. It really is a reverse correlation. A 12-48 is something you want to dig!!
stop using numbers and use your ears ,discrim a small amount of iron and dig every signal ,ok you will dig a bit more trash but you ent going to miss much

Great video. Thank you for taking the time to do this. Your vdi information should be of great benefit to all using a CTX while looking for gold.

Would the rings give a different reading l if they were buried in the ground?
Would like to know where you got the dust covers that are on your machine? I have a Doc's but mine doesn't have the sun shield.
Great 👍
For the people who asked, the covers for the 3030 are made by Pro-Tectors and can be found here - www.pro-tectors.co.uk/product/ctx3030full

+Jeffrey Victor good info but why dose it show 12.04 for an 18kt gold ring should the 04 not be higher
what settings did u have it on ??
How much your ctx3030
what settings were you using for this viedio?
Please responde buddy
Ciao ragazzi ho comprato il CTX 30-30 e nn riesco a impostarlo mi potete agliutare come impostare il metal
so basically anything in the 12 range dig it :)
and a few 11s and 13s too, it's a lot of digging but once you know where the gold can fall, you can't ignore it :-)
i know 11.38 is pound coins
***** Hi New Zealand 1 and 2 dollar coins are the same as your pound coins 11-38
stop using numbers and use your ears ,discrim a small amount of iron and dig every signal ,ok you will dig a bit more trash but you ent going to miss much
so basically the gold almost every in 12 ? thanks for the video.
That's it 👍
Yes but pull tabs read 12.16 so best to dig the singles for them too
