thank you for breaking it down into those 9 parts, it helps with studying. I just finished reading surah al-baqarah in english and it took me a couple weeks as it is so much information and so much to ponder on. I have so many notes and reflections, but the surah is so great I think it will take me years and years to fully understand and then inshallah recite in Arabic.

40 He said to them, "Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?"

The nation of israel which are the jews were ordained to pray towards jersulam.. Allah swt mentions it as a blesed land. Capital of Islam was jersulam. Remember the Children of Israel were the chosen nation to deliver the message.
Yes Ibrahim AS and Ishamel did build the kaaba.. the descendants of Ishamel AS worshipped towards Kaaba..though eventually no prophets came down his line and people were astray. This was the plan of Allah setting the stage for the greatest and last messenger coming. Rasuallah saw.
In Makkah when Rasuallah saw came.. the kaaba was full of idols.. Rasuallah saw and companions were ordered to pray towards jersulam. this shows he was the messenger of all nations.
Once he reached madina. the capital of islam was changed to Makkah. The kaaba.
The jews in madina knew this as truth. but didnt accept due to rasuallah not being from their nation.

In Part 1, Allah (SWT) divides the audience of the Quran into three groups: the people who have faith and engage with the Quran, the people who absolutely reject it (i.e. disbelievers) and people who claim to have faith but they don’t really have faith (i.e. hypocrites).
    - In Part 2, Allah (SWT) informs us that these three groups (believers, disbelievers and hypocrites) have always existed, since the time of Adam himself. So the next story is of Adam, peace be upon him, and how he ended up on earth.
    - In Part 3, just as Adam was chosen for the responsibility of being God’s vicegerent on earth, as humanity spread out it was important not to have just one person to take over this responsibility, but an entire nation.
The Children of Israel were chosen to be a model nation under God’s guidance, so they can show how to follow divine guidance to all of humanity. That was their responsibility and there is a long discourse on how Allah gave them that responsibility, but they disappointed His expectations.
    - In Part 4, Allah (SWT) takes a step back and talks about Prophet Abraham, peace be upon him.
What is interesting to note is that Allah tells us the story of Adam, whom He tested, but Adam failed the test, then was redeemed. Then he tells us the story of the Children of Israel who were also tested, but they also failed the test, and they have a chance to be redeemed.
God then mentions the story of Prophet Abraham, peace be upon him, who passed all the tests he went through, then finally the Ummah of believers and the tests they will go through:
So the sequence of the stories in this Surah is father, nation, father, nation.
Then when God speaks about Prophet Abraham, he then talks about his son Ishmael in half the passage, then his grandson Jacob in the other half. Why was that important?
Because Allah is saying that both of these are legitimate lineages of Prophet Abraham, peace be upon him, and both of them were Muslims.
    - In Part 5, Prophet Abraham, peace be upon him, left a legacy behind, as he left God’s house, the Ka’bah, which he built. As he built that house he prayed for a prophet to come, and Muhammad, peace be upon him, is the answer to the prayer of your own father Abraham.
    - Part 6 of this Surah is when Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, stopped praying towards Jerusalem, and changed his prayer direction towards the Qa’bah. The nation of believers are now a new nation, and they will be put to the test. “And thus we have made you a just community…” (2:143)
    - What will they be tested with? The Surah continues in Part 7 with new laws for the new nation, including fasting, Hajj, zakah, inheritance, divorce, … and all kinds of laws in an incredible systematic order, which is the test of the new Ummah.
    - Part 8 then describes greed and money matters in one of the longest parts of the Quran, like how should one make money and do business, and how one should spend money… So an exhaustive discourse on money matters, unlike any other Surah of the Quran.
    - Then in Part 9 is a prayer where we are basically asking Allah not to put a burden on us, like that placed on the people before us, because they were not able to carry that burden, and to forgive us if we forget or make mistakes.

in the Quran there are many many many verses on the mistakes of the children of isreal, and it is guidance from Allah so we cannot downplay it or say we do not need to worry about it, in fact we Really really need to worry about it because its in the quran
      I hope u understand

    • @Mitu918
      @Mitu918 8 ปีที่แล้ว

True. Now a days, all we do is look for others mistake. We complain. My point of view is what others do others business. Our duty is to be good. We are supposed to learn from their mistake. But if we all do just contemplate about their mistake without any action what good it would do. This is my point. I see your point too.

    • @reissier3368
      @reissier3368 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Masuma Ak
its not bad to point out other peoples mistakes...
infact in the Quran it describes those that "command good and forbid evil" are the successful, so it is our duty to let others know when they are doing something wrong.
its an.obligation, in fact its a command,
for example you see a sister wearing immodest clothes, it is your duty to tell her in a nice way that what she is doing is against the shariah of Allah, same goes for a brother when he sees another brother smoking for example.
its one thing to point out mistakes for no other reason than to start an argument or to bring a person down or to make fun of the person but if you are doing it to better the person and you are doing it to fulfill the command of Allah then what you are doing is better than staying silent because that shows you care about your fellow Muslim

Asalamualaikum I would like to add something to this insightful tafseer by brother Nouman that has been perhaps overlooked but nevertheless in shaa Allah it brings benefit. When the angels question Allah SWT this is something intended to teach us something because iblis opposed Allah SWT but he did it out of arrogance.
So why were the Angels not condemned for questioning? Because they asked sincerely to try to understand Allah's plan.
So why is this shown to us?
It actually teaches us how to approach Allah when we don't understand something Allah says
And where does Allah speak to us?
    In the Quran
So this ayat actually teaches us how to approach reading the Quran ie when Allah speaks to mankind
Subhanallah we are being taught to be sincere in reading ayats and to question sincerely with faith and just like with the Angels we should have faith that Allah SWT will make it clear to us the true meanings in shaa Allah

I was guided to this surah today , i have been meaning to read it fully and try to wrap my mind around it. I felt at times while reading that Allah swt is speaking to me directly, i found myself seeing my own actions in His warnings. Things i never thought i had said or did but actually have said and done. I am not innocent and have committed sins i overlooked doing.Subhana Allah.
It shook me up , i really needed that.

      Our commitment to the Quran:
      Read it regularly.
Memorize what we can. Strive to understand it.
      Guide our actions by it.
      Pass it on to others.
Continue all of the above through our lives.
