Hi Lost. I'm an italian following your channel from a while. As an italian living close to Milano i have to say: in general you're right. But keep in mind: italy, especially in the North is very packed up with people. You visited Cinque Terre April 24th which is the day before a very important national holiday, that's why it was so terribly crowded. Liguria is well known for this problem also in italian minds. San vito lo Capo in July/August, as well as Positano would be as packed as cinque terre. This is to say: Time to visit Italy is a variable more than any other countries in the world i've been to,if you wanna avoid crowds. Completeley forget July and August. Choose June/May/early September. And avoid mass tourism places in national holidays. Italians like italy more than anyone else! You have to avoid US to have our amazing country all for yourself 😂 If you will come back to milano, feel free to write. I will try to give you a better experience of northern Italy 😊
totally agree, I went to Rome , Florence and Venice in may and it was totally amazing, there were crowds ,but not as big as in summer, Italy is such a Beautiful country, I cannot wait to go again and visit other cities.

You asked… IMO I vehemently disagree that Milano is not the authentic Italy. Rather It is a just different part of Italy and a beautiful, and elegant part. Yes, it is not like the south or coast which is also a different part of Italy. Yes, it is a commercial center but it is a necessary part to ensure Italy thrives. For a change of pace just go an hour north to the mountains. Roma, Milano, Venice, Firenze, Padova, Brindisi, Portofino, Capri, Napoli, are all Italy just different and that is what makes the country so awesome!

After having been around parts of Southern Italy I have to find myself agreeing with you. I was really surprised when I visited Rome how different it was than I expected. It seemed dangerous, and I saw 3 homeless people beating up another homeless person. Another thing that surprised me was the sheer amount of graffiti, it's like every single surface in Southern Italy is completely covered in graffiti, I had never seen so much in my life. Such a beautiful country, people, heritage, art, architecture, and yet so many trying to ruin it with litter and ugly graffiti. The village close to Portofino is not "Margherita", it's "Santa Margherita". Between Cinque Terre e Portofino there are many beautiful places on the cost with less touristic crowd. Next time you can visit Camogli, Chiavari and Setri Levante.
Lime scooters are too expensive (€1 to unlock, and then €0.25/minute)! the best way to move around the city is buying a 72 hour ticket for the bus and metro...
I tend to feel cities in general can be over crowded. I enjoy visiting these places but I always expect overcrowding. Italy is famous to boot. Further you get from the big cities and into the country sides and even into the mountains it usually clears up outside of some hubs. This has been my experience across many countries. The more accessible place of interest is to a major airport or sea port, you can generally expect overcrowding. Thanks for the video!
Wow. I visited cinque terre as a broke young man maybe 12 years ago in June. It wasn't crowded and it was super cheap. It was a great time - can't believe how crowded it was in that transition shot you showed. Instagram has certainly changed travel.
Probably nobody told you that April 25th is National holifay in Italy and a lot of Italians use to have a short vacation which could be 1 or 2 days and Cinque Terre is one of the destinations for a short trip so a location always crowded becomes truly unlivable for those who can stand crowds. If you don't mind the winter weather I think January/February are good for a visit there're very few tourists and less choice of open bar& restaurants but you can enjoy the spectacular coastline and the best way to do it is to walk uphill since each one of the 5 villages has stairs to climb to reach a belvedere. In any case the all region is beautiful, I'm from Tuscany and I love the area closer to me, especially the "Golfo dei Poeti" (gulf of poets) with Lerici Portovenere the Palmaria island and my absolute favourite Tellaro. The are is a Natural Park protected area and Unesco World Heritage.
I love Italy! I spent 3 years there back in 2010-2013 and have been back a couple of times since and it never disappoints. I agree the food is better in Rome and really all of southern Italy. Up North it’s a little bland 😬🤷🏻♀️ Best pizza ever is in Naples!
I'm doing Italy next year. I have it all planned out my main goal is to get to Pompeii because I missed going when I was studying abroad. It was an awful time for me back then because so much went wrong and I had to head back home early, but I generally can't wait to get there this time.
I went to Cinque Terre in Feb 2019, weather was nice-ish (nbd, I'm from Seattle), and nobody else was on the trail between Monterosso and Vernazza...it's all about the timing I guess. Also easy to ride the train and always had a seat. We stayed Airbnb in the upper old town part of Monterosso which was way more charming than nearer to the train station where most of the hotels were.
I’ve been to Cinque Terre twice, the last time was in July 2022. It didn’t feel all that busy, which makes me wonder if something was going on when you were there. It was our favourite part of our trip to Italy. We did all the walks later in the day and there were hardly any people on the paths. The wine and granitas were yummy, especially in Corniglia, which was a cute spot that some skip. I dream of going back again. I’ve also been to all the other places, with the exception of Sicily. I’d take Cinque Terre over Positano any day. But I guess that’s what makes the world go around.
Your heading is wrong, and it is well known that in certain parts of Italy, it gets busy. That's because it is popular and very beautiful. Choose the time of year wisely before you visit or better still dont come to Italy to pick faults. You tubers unnecessary remarks to get attention and make themselves money.
We visited Cinque Terre just off season in October and it still had visitors, but you could walk and move around without bumping into people. Perfect time... just no beach time as it's a bit chilly. I would go back ... off season!
Totally agree with the part about finding a hotel in a close-by town and not staying in the popular ones, it saves you money and also gives you a break from all the crowds when you go back in the evening and enjoy a quiet restaurant with delicious not-for-the-masses quisine. I visited the entire Amalfi coast and stayed in a town called Cava de' Tirreni, that I highly recommend, it's about a 40 minute car ride to Amalfi, which was a delight every day beacause of the views
I found the town of Monterosso al Mare in Cinque Terre was very beautiful. It had amazing restaurants with great views. In my view it was the most beautiful of the 5 towns usually visited in Cinque Terre. It was also much less crowded than Riomaggiore
Sorry bud, but if you have it against Italy that is fine, however all you show is entirely based on poor preparation and no proper guidance in where to go and what to do. Italy is ultimately wonderful, if you know what to do and where to go. Example? Do not base your opinion on Cinque Terre when you go in the month of August (perhaps on a weekend) when this is a place to go in the fall or the spring and expecting only the beauty of the place and nothing modern or tourist driven (as there are barely shops and it’s mostly room for rent, meaning there are not many hotels) I,ve always appreciated you, being also Canadian, but finally going to Italy you destroyed it, sadly and wrongly so
Positano was a 15 for me! While sitting outside a restaurant eating lunch on my own- I learned this: Oh, my! The sea view is magical. I could have sat there for days. I visited other beautiful areas, but the "doing nothing" hit perfectly in Positano. The Mediterranean was gorgeous- especially there. I have seen Hawaii, and USA west and east coasts. But, the Mediterranean Sea is beyond beautiful in Italy.
I so look forward to your videos. Your humor is so amazing. I’m laughing out loud to some of the silly things you do. I love the fact that I can travel through you even though I can’t travel myself…. I have a little 18 year old dog that I won’t leave until he’s gone one day. Then the next chapter in my life will be travel. I am so grateful for your beautiful content.
My wife and I visited Genoa and Cinque Terre last year in May as part of our honeymoon. In my opinion, while the villages are gorgeous, nothing beats doing the trail between the 3 northern villages (I think it will be fully open by 2025). We arrived in Monterosso from Genova and we were astounded by the number of people so we said f*ck it, let's make the trail, even though we thought we were not prepared for that. We might've been lucky that it wasn't that crowded, but seeing the iconic village of Vernazza for the first time after 2h of trekking will live with me forever. Once we were in Vernazza, again we felt really crowded, so we walked around for 20 mins, got an Aperol spritz and a quick bite, then again, said f*ck it, the sun was beginning to set so we rushed to make the trail to Corniglia. Now this is something that I will recommend to anyone visiting Cinque Terre. Do the trail between Vernazza and Corniglia during the sunset. It was absolutely empty and the golden sun was always on our back, shining over the green cliffs that crash into the sea. I get teary eyed remembering that moment. Finally we arrived to Corniglia just as the sun was hiding in the sea and I would say even though there were some tourists, it wasn't close to the numbers we saw in the previous 2 villages. Corniglia is sitting on top of a cliff so it has no beach, but it's beautiful, old and imposing. I'd say it's definitely underrated. There is a mini-square withba panoramic view in front of a church where everybody gathered to watch the sunset with a glass of wine. Mystical experience and I hope many will be as lucky as us to appreciate Cinque Terre in the same fashion.
@@al9017 I'd say that the Balinese and cheap, uneducated tourists have ruined Bali, and then it's clear that the influencers haven't improved the problem.
It is always the case that you should stay away from tourist places. The streets where the grandmothers make fresh pasta are more loving and authentic!
I'm heading back to Italy this year, third time. First was to propose, second time for honeymoon, and now babymoon. Doing Rome, Puglia and Sicily this time. Then I've done all of Italy except technically Calabria and Sardinia
In Milan you to go in typical Milanese places for eat a really good food not in the touristic places in the center, that pretty normal in all the places in the world. Mark Wiens did a really good video "10 places where to eat in Milan"... ok bye.
@@lostleblanc i don't wanna say Milan is the best place in Italy and for sure you can eat better in other places, but it's not a real touristic place, people come here only during fashion week and for the fairs like that about furnitures. It's the economic heart of the Italy and it's normal persons are more cold like all the big cities. Well, thanks for your answer.
First and foremost: GREAT video with a lot of information, I don't disagree with what your saying, just want to give you my view on it. I would say that this video is for people with a certain amount of income...as you said yourself a few times through the video...expensive prices...and also expensive destinations. I've visited Italy multiple times and I would say the real Italy is to be found on the countryside and alll the little villages between the big ones. Learning the language is also a big help and look for trattoria's with a lot of trucks parked around them...means there some mighty good food to be found. Italia sempre nel mio cuore ! Ciao Ciao
I lived in Rome for a year and can wholeheartedly agree on your comments on the city. It is definitely one place on earth that is truly special. Sure it has its grimy parts and is overcrowded with tourists as so many other places in Italy but it is a place everyone should visit at some point. Also totally agree on Sicily being a fantastic place to visit. I've been there twice, first in a two week stay in Taormina and then doing a road trip around the island, and it is a marvelous place to visit. It's also a nice winter destination, as it never gets really cold, I did my road trip in early december and temperatures never went lower than 15-20º C, super nice. And the food there is amazing! Milano is a place that you can visit for a couple of days and then move on. Don't make it the cornerstone of your trip unless you have other reasons to be there.

If we’re ever in Milan at the same time I’ll invite you for a AC Milan game at the iconic San Siro 🇮🇹😅 the making of this video seems such a long time ago already 🙈
The key to great travel experiences is to avoid tourist destinations in peak times. Go in off season or shoulder season. When summer comes and people are travel around the world, find a smaller low key place to hunker down for a few months.
Timing is everything when it comes to visiting popular places. But let's not forget that TH-cam and social media are contributing to the "problem". The more everyone sees these lovely places, the more people put those locations on their bucket list. Including people who wouldn't normally visit such places. I think this phenomenon is here to stay and you have to find ways around it if you are passionate about travel
I really disagree with your comment on Italian food - to be honest it seems like you are not reall aware of how to eat your way through Italy. It is always key to eat regional products to get the best quality - Focaccia might be something you want to eat in Bari. When in Milan or Lombardy, try Risotto or dishes with Polenta maybe. Also, there are lots of exclusive restaurants there, but maybe you should not order a cornetto there then or go to Starbucks.
I went to Cinque Terre in February and had literally no crowds. It was magical.
Its funny when people complain about the problem they created.... travel was never like this before influencers, Instagrammers annd you tubers...its now ruined
Yes they have ruined the popular tourist places...just go well out of season..or places these people don't know about...and don't tell..
Indeed!
Tbf places like Venice were already overcrowded before influencers, though they definitely did accelerate the problem.
You just go in the shoulder season or even later. And the prices are a lot cheaper too. So you have to wear a jacket and maybe a hat. So what.
I was at the Christ the Redeemer (Rio) recently and the instagrammers were so annoying. All of them spread their arms. Hate them to be honest.

I’d done my Egypt trip based on your guidance and it was one of the best times of my life so any advice you have on any destination is solid gold for me 😊 love your content, man❤️
Christian. Been following you over 5 years now. I would be curious abt what places you would find not worthy to visit in Switzerland. Id love to show you some hidden gems there, soon at 100k subs here🇨🇭
The village close to Portofino is not "Margherita", it's "Santa Margherita". Between Cinque Terre e Portofino there are many beautiful places on the cost with less touristic crowd. Next time you can visit Camogli, Chiavari and Setri Levante.
Sestri Levante
I was waiting for someone to correct him, Santa Margherita Ligure.
Lime scooters are too expensive (€1 to unlock, and then €0.25/minute)! the best way to move around the city is buying a 72 hour ticket for the bus and metro...
We weren't crazy about Milan either, loved Verona nearby!
Nearby?
@@user-wb8mn2bb9z ya!!
@@user-wb8mn2bb9z yes! Verona is nearby! I made a TH-cam video about it actually! 😍
you should make this for Bali, as its super overrated. here at the moment. change beach is just full of rubbish.
Cinque Terre congestion: blame Rick Steves back in 1995.
Yes ruined Travel...go where this lot don't go to...is my advice...🌼
Il was April 25, the day of the Liberation from Fascism.
Up North it’s a little bland 😬🤷🏻♀️
Best pizza ever is in Naples!
Cinque Terre is great for a day trip. I spent 3 days there in March and it was way too much time. It also wasn’t this busy.
I'm doing Italy next year. I have it all planned out my main goal is to get to Pompeii because I missed going when I was studying abroad. It was an awful time for me back then because so much went wrong and I had to head back home early, but I generally can't wait to get there this time.
L’amico lost colpisce ancora!
13:40 that Rio Mario killed me😂😂😂
Wow this was filmed last year great video i look forward to going to these places
😅😅 we are heading to Italy 🇮🇹 soon.. thank you this is awesome 👌
I visited this year in May and even Rome seemed quiet. The only crowds were saw were on Herculeum station, and of course anywhere Amalfi.
Great video! And, that orange dress on your girlfriend/wife near the end is GORGEOUS!!
Could've also been talking about Canggu in the intro lol
Thank you for the wonderful video!
Love the video , going to Positano in September- but!!! I am obsessed with the pink pantsuit, can you pls post where its from?
To be fair, the Comune di Milano is super industrialized and that's why its categorized like the richiest comune in all of Italy.
Great video, man! Loved the photography and what you said about my country :) come visit Sardinia too
Thank you! Seriously hope to see Sardinia this year
What do you love about Sardinia? I am curious. How is tourism?
I disagree with so much. But the worst is..... this is old material....
I found the town of Monterosso al Mare in Cinque Terre was very beautiful. It had amazing restaurants with great views. In my view it was the most beautiful of the 5 towns usually visited in Cinque Terre. It was also much less crowded than Riomaggiore
Its Santa Margherita, not Margherita.
Sorry bud, but if you have it against Italy that is fine, however all you show is entirely based on poor preparation and no proper guidance in where to go and what to do. Italy is ultimately wonderful, if you know what to do and where to go. Example? Do not base your opinion on Cinque Terre when you go in the month of August (perhaps on a weekend) when this is a place to go in the fall or the spring and expecting only the beauty of the place and nothing modern or tourist driven (as there are barely shops and it’s mostly room for rent, meaning there are not many hotels)
I,ve always appreciated you, being also Canadian, but finally going to Italy you destroyed it, sadly and wrongly so
When in Milamo why didn't you try milanrse food, such as " ossobuco" or " risotto allo zafferano" or " milanes3 steack" ?
Loved this video! Great job, Christian!!!
👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼 happy to help
Hello Christian! Love how you narrate !
Grazie Mille
🫶🏼
I wanted ti say the same!! Haha his so good!
Christian, thank you for inspiring me to set up my own travel vlog! ❤
Let’s make it happen man 👊🏼
@@lostleblanc my journey will start in Asia, as did yours all those years ago! 🙏

I love the fact that I can travel through you even though I can’t travel myself…. I have a little 18 year old dog that I won’t leave until he’s gone one day. Then the next chapter in my life will be travel. I am so grateful for your beautiful content.
anddd Levanto prices just jumped, jk great watch and just confirms my fear of massive crowds. Dolomites here we come!
Mystical experience and I hope many will be as lucky as us to appreciate Cinque Terre in the same fashion.
and it's not the same in Bali ? or even worse if we're talking about overvalued destinations.
There are parts of Bali I do not recommend and parts of Bali that are amazing. Just like Italy 🇮🇹
Perhaps a great upcoming video
@@lostleblanc Bali has become an open-air dump.

Do you meet many grandmas in your journey?
@@arcabuz It's a saying that the food of grandmothers and mother are the best! And yes i met many gradmas doing the best food out there!
The amount of times I laughed out loud 😆 Great video! Love that you revisited your Local Aromas fam!
52 euro is insane. You can get a great meal in most places in Sydney Australia for half that cost. Italy is a rip-off sigh
That was a tourist trap
Here with 15 euro you can eat first main + caffe + coperto (tip) + drink
Whats the change made to your audio/mic?
your content is amazing!! super great quality in every sense
“The Italians are laughing.” 😆 Another awesome video for the books
Mamma Mia 😅
I'm heading back to Italy this year, third time. First was to propose, second time for honeymoon, and now babymoon. Doing Rome, Puglia and Sicily this time. Then I've done all of Italy except technically Calabria and Sardinia
In Milan you to go in typical Milanese places for eat a really good food not in the touristic places in the center, that pretty normal in all the places in the world. Mark Wiens did a really good video "10 places where to eat in Milan"... ok bye.
I’ll have to watch that video if we come back!
I agree about mark wiens! I saved all of his Italian videos! @@Alex-8181
Blame Rick Steves for Cinque Terre.
I was there after new years 2014 and it was -1c and raining. I spent the day in bed.😢
"The name Cinque Terre isn't just a name. It's also its rating out of ten." 🤣😂🤣 Pretty much says it all!!
Chuck
My question is, which month is best in regards to, too many tourists?
I went to all of these places and had amazing time despite the heat and the crowds....Italy is magical no matter what!!
Ciao Ciao
What have been your favorite hidden places and villages?
Appreciate your thoughts and yes can’t wait to try some of the lesser known sides of this amazing country . Thanks Steven!
@@lostleblanc You will love it Christian, wishing you many great travels to come ;-) greets from Belgium
Thank you from a milanese
it’s called santa margherita
I so appreciate you and your rigor, research, and commitment to curiosity...
Rome is somehow one of the most underrated cities in Europe. One of the Most trafficked but 90% of tourists never experience what makes it so special
What makes it special?
Rome underratet?
@@seanwan30 some of the best food in the world that almost every tourist misses. Great neighborhoods, though I think trastevere is very overrated. Obviously the history is amazing but get out of the city center for the real magic
@@AlessioGrunbi I know seems wrong to says after my first visit would have said the opposite and it is very hyped up. I more so mean almost every tourist misses what really makes Rome special and that's its neighborhoods outside of the center. After visiting multiple more times I love it more each visit.
When, what month of year did you visit Milan?
If we’re ever in Milan at the same time I’ll invite you for a AC Milan game at the iconic San Siro 🇮🇹😅 the making of this video seems such a long time ago already 🙈
The key to great travel experiences is to avoid tourist destinations in peak times. Go in off season or shoulder season. When summer comes and people are travel around the world, find a smaller low key place to hunker down for a few months.
15:23 siick ahaha, great content
Timing is everything when it comes to visiting popular places. But let's not forget that TH-cam and social media are contributing to the "problem". The more everyone sees these lovely places, the more people put those locations on their bucket list. Including people who wouldn't normally visit such places. I think this phenomenon is here to stay and you have to find ways around it if you are passionate about travel
A coso storto....vorrei sapere, quanti giorni sei stato nel.piu bel paese al.mondo!
Please reply!
