    To get your licence in New Zealand, the course you do is at the hire company. You hop in the digger, lift the bucket, track forward and back and your done. Fully Licenced ready to go to work. Same with a roller and or a loader. Then u can operate anything with wheels, tracks and rollers up to 18 tonne.

      Easier if the ground is flat, or better level and you can roughly gauge it off your bucket

      When bucket is flat to the ground, the top of the bucket where the pins hole on to the hitch, to the ground is around a metre deep, use the very top of the bucket as your indicator

  • @jdig1984
    @jdig1984 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Good job but I think you should be teaching new guys how to dig around services they come off these courses and break pipes and ducts etc. When pulling the line of trench you should be stripping 50 to 75 mm max with the blade of bucket then scoop your bucket full when there is enough material to fill . It's a tad slower from way you are doing it but it works you never go to deep to break service

    • @chris77777777ify
      @chris77777777ify 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Surely that comes with experience.
      If service lines where done properly they wouldn’t be dug up again.

    • @jdig1984
      @jdig1984 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@chris77777777ify the reality is they are not put to specified depths and usually not enough sand and shockingly no tape cowboys can hide there work underground. nowadays we have take pictures before backfill. But 20 years ago they would just throw it in backfill and away no care. It's like footpaths a service is broke straight away because as an after thought they put something in just below level of concrete. digger comes in with breaker bang straight through a cable for street lighting you can't assume it's done right. Lads come off these courses and want to dig like hell and take a full bucket and it's an expensive mistake if your on a quarry or green feild. I think if they are going to be digging a 15 metre trench bung a few pipes in at different levels and that will prepare operators for proper scenarios

      @@TheJules2011 Banks man going to be no use to anyone if the digger driver is not digging in shallow layers which this guy is not. Whats the best way to become an excavator operator if you've got no experience in the construction industry at all? What course short I take? Which qualification best helps best? what advice do you have for someone looking to switch professions to this field? I've asked around and I always get the same answer which is to just take a course and go from there, they all make it sound too easy, which I know isnt the case.

    • @rustydumper
      @rustydumper 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Start on the ground first, build up experience so you know what to look for when you move to plant...which colour tapes for services, tolerances etc.
      I know groundworkers that have 360 tickets and their still on the ground and building up seat time to get to the point where their taken seriously as an operator. Bottom line, get experienced within the industry first. Don't be put off it'll just take time. Hope this helps dude. 👍

    • @calumblair3767
      @calumblair3767 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Personally wouldn't listen to the previous comment pal, speaking as a groundworker that was banking a rubber duck and track operator, get your ticket and get right into it just say you can do it cause that's how everyone else did it. Not a good feeling when you're the ground worker getting £14/hr and the plant operators on £21/hr with a 50 grand car lol. That's just for the trams in the capital in Scotland, I'd imagine the bigger the machine the bigger the pay on those massive jobs. You won't do any digging without a banksman on a site in the UK anymore unless you've signed all the paper work and engineers cleared drawings with you and you're grading. Other than that a groundworker will bank you, identify services, instruct pretty much everything you do.. a good ground worker will, if it's a labourer that doesn't know just ask a gaffer for someone that knows how to check for services. Get the cat n genny out. Jobs that don't have services burried will be easier laser levels do everything you just move machine lol

      @Aaron19987 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@calumblair3767 yeah definitely exaggerate your confidence and competence in a digger. Blag it to an agency, they’ll Chuck you round sites for days/weeks at a time slowly building up experience in sites where more than likely they’re desperate for an excavator operator so won’t be arsed that it takes a bit longer for you to dig out a good footing they just want the job done. Before you know it you’re actually decent enough to be looked at as a proper driver, get the blue card as soon as you can also.

    What size bucket is that? 12 maybe 18inch? Can't you step up to 24,36,or even 48 at the end? I would! I wouldn't have to re-position myself that often! Also you breaking hard, compacted top layer! Surely,for that i would pick a bucket with teeth! Also known as digging bucket! Don't b lazy,keep different buckets nearby,change it if you have to! Makes the job quicker,easier!
