@Therideshareguy I think Will needs to massively up his private client game. He has already committed to the big expenses. Vehicle, licenses, permits, insurance, etc. Cutting out the middleman is what he needs to do next.

How is it legal for them to bait and switch drivers like this? Where is the regulation? People make financial decisions based on the ride types and pricing, for them to just get rid of Lyft Lux overnight is unethical.

I bought a 2009 Infiniti in April 2016 so I could do Uber Select and Lyft Lux. Three months later, Uber raised Select to 2010 in my state but left it at 2008 in the adjoining states. So I learned quickly that buying a vehicle to do rideshare is a moving target.

Advice for potential drivers looking for a new path…………
Do not invest into rideshare as a business venture! The companies main objectives are to exploit you and your high end machinery for their gain. Don’t do it! Imagine buying a vehicle for a certain platform and they change the rates or take the platform away all together? They don’t care. You’re just stuck with the debt. Sad

I have over and over stated rideshare as is in its standard form, is a waste of your time and energy. I found myself doing rideshare during my darkest period while unemployed. Unless for some reason you are driving a Mitsubishi Mirage, it makes absolutely no sense to do this for $20 an hour factoring your expenses and car depreciation. The only time i found it somewhat profitable was when I drove Lux Black. Uber Black requires commercial insurance for Black but not Lyft. My car is not exactly black but dark gray. I managed to get LYft support to change the color from gray to black, and no rider ever complained. The car is a beauty, and no one cared about the shade. Unfortunately, here in the NJ market, black requests are rare. I'd say 3 per week, which is not sustainable, so you find yourself still on the trash tiers, which most people are on. The bottom line is that just find something better doing and dont be a disrespected slave.

I thought the same thing. Will is in my market, I have an approved black vehicle, but I cherry pick. I still make $200 per day, but I'm very selective. However, it doesn't justify $6k in commercial insurance and the business certificate. I did speak with some Black Car drivers at Boston Logan Airport awhile ago, and they explained that it takes up to 1yr to build your private clients. They sit all day in the airport, and like Will said, a lot of patience. You don't get a ride right away, but when you do, it pays. I started to use the same standard that the driver told me to do. He said he doesn't accept a certain amount, $65 and up per trip. I do that now with airports if I choose to go.

I'm confused about the commercial insurance on lyft. I spoke to support last night and they told me in my LA region that to qualify for lyft black and black suv, I just need a qualifying vehicle, have it pass inspection and regular full coverage insurance. I refuse to spend 10x more in insurance when I currently pay 100 for full coverage on 2 vehicles.

@@sergioSMTMC1 i totally agree. But unsure why lyft support which has access to my account and region would say to drive black and black suv only on lyft. I don't drive uber, that all I need is a qualifying vehicle, pass inspection and regular full coverage liability and comprehensive insurance. Is this something you can relay to lyft upper management for LA market verification and maybe include it next week in your podcast. Thx. Have a great weekend. P.s. I'm not buying anything just yet. I am currently in the xl minivan category. But both my vehicles were left off the extra comfort platform and it's seriously cutting my overall level of earnings down. Especially at lax because now there are many more vehicles pushed into the all rides category that used to just only be lux drivers. 300 dam cars continuously and it never surges anymore. Lol.

I agree. The market isn't there for high demand of black rides to justify the high cost of insurance. The black car driver I spoke with at Logan Airport awhile back said he's frustrated that he shelled out tons of money for his Suburban, and his insurance is $10k per year. Only to learn that it takes 1 yr to build a private customer and 2yrs for being a black car service. He said he wished he didn't choose a Suburban, but a smaller classier car that was better on gas

    IMPORTANT !!!
Everything was ok, but he doesn’t know anything about how commercial vehicles work. Now with Commercial insurance he CANT drive this vehicle for personal, if he is involved in accidents when do personal driving he DONT have any coverage.
    2. Different cities keep this cars only for certain years.
    3. He needs to do quarterly W2 pay to him self by LAW from his company
    4. He needs Accounting person to handle his business for quarterly and yearly pays from his new company
    5. The car needs to be washed at least once in workday
    6. He needs to have DOT commercial vehicles inspection every 6 months
    7. He have only 50 miles insurance from the garage when the car is parked, for unlimited miles insurance will be 8,000-10,000$
    8. Now if he is involved in accidents, customers can sue him on the side to cover everything what his insurance will not
    9. They are many more things is depends what city and state you live. ( Chicago is the most regulated city in US )
    - Ground Tax
    - Airport tax / Stamps/ Tickets
    - Commercial plates yearly renewal
    - Special Driver License ( Like CDL )
    - Real Background Check includes all history from the date you are born
    - Actual address on your company in the city where you registered ( not in the Suburbs) means you need to have office in the city
    - and now IRS, Department of labor and INSURANCE Company counts the time what you start the vehicle to last drop of ( not like this scam with Uber and Lift. ) means if he do 1 trips in the morning and 1 in the evening this can brig him in trouble if is involved in accident.
    - and if the car stops for some reason or hi have a flat tire customer can sue him because they missed their first class flight ( Tesla Y even don’t have a spare tire)
    - 2 accidents in 1 year and no one will insure you for 3 years
    - they are many more things and for everything will be responsible owner of the company and vehicle.
    - for every complaint he needs to deal with the city and explain, or du drug test no later then 2h if someone complained

I dont know if this topic was covered before. Comfort & extra comfort was the rideshare intentional effort to lower fares. If you look at the car requirements for comfort & extra comfort, it is NEAR identical to Lux & Select platforms. The major difference is the fare. Both companies are their own worst enemies. Lowering fares, in the hopes of getting more riders. Use the excuse that there was low demand for the Select & Lux platform, to eliminate those rides, was just an excuse. Here is a simple question. What does it cost Uber & Lyft to have those rides as an option? Its a program, not an employee dedicated to assigning rides for Lux or Select. 1 of the obvious ways to see it? Comfort was created first, with the Bait and switch plan. Fares were initially higher, but lowered after Select was eliminated. I could go on, but, dont wish to make this comment any longer. Its unfortunate that Uber & Lyft are run by bobbleheads that follow the Trump University business model.

He said he can make $500 in 6 hours and he works part time, but regular drivers who work in the 35-45 hour range per week (which is not so grueling) make $1100-1500 in a week consistently. So these drivers who do the “higher” programs work less hours and do less rides, but make more money on the rides that they do get. Well, they’re still making less money than people who are working more hours and doing more rides. I guess it’s good if you work part time. Or it could be super if you combine it with regular rides And work 35 to 45 hours a week. Then I bet you could probably make two grand a week. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Thanks.

Black cars are harder to see, especially at night. White cars are more visible and up to 12% less likely to be in an accident than silver or gray cars and white cars are 6% less likely to be in an accident compared to black cars. When the car's color is harder to see, it's more likely the car will get hit by other cars because it reduces the reaction time of drivers who hit those cars. I wish the rideshare companies let safer colors such as white cars qualify for premium pay like black cars. I would prefer getting a ride in a more visible car to increase safety, and I feel safer driving a white car because it is more visible and safer.

Texas drivers: Does anyone know if you can drive Lyft/Uber with an out of state license plate? I'll be visiting Texas from Ohio for a few months and it was no problem to use my Ohio plates in Florida for example in summer 2023.

I think you can drive in any state in the U.S. except for NY. New York has special licensing in order to be an Uber driver

@@sergioSMTMC1 Thanks Sergio. Appreciate you. I don't think it's manual moderation. It's too quick. It has to be something automated. I just tried reposting an exact copy/paste of that text in the email. It was deleted in less than 5 seconds. I can't imagine anything in that text is inappropriate, offensive, controversial, or so off-topic as to be unwanted. But I assure you, it is 100% being deleted within a few seconds.
