One of the things that broke Kate out in the US (to the degree that she did break out) is that the song "Hello Earth" was strongly featured on an episode of Miami Vice. It was very early in the release cycle for the album, so much so that the producers had to have gotten a hold of the song significantly before release. It goes to show how good they were at their jobs, which was to put cool songs in their show before anyone else had heard them. It also laid the groundwork for Kate to get to #30 in the US with Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God). The song has now peaked at #4 in the US, for now, but wow is it heavily emphasized in the new trailer for Stranger Things
Honestly the song change by deftones in the videogame saints row 2 has been such a, wow I love music moment for me. I don't watch TV or movies much anymore but that was a film I played through and listened to that song on there a lot
@@Producelikeapro I was a bit too young to buy albums, but I remember first seeing and hearing her in the “Cloudbusting” video on MTV, and just being totally blown away!
Warren, that was exceptional. The reason main stream TV is dying. Way better content can be found on TH-cam and it's presented by a true professionals with passion. Once again, thank you for this channel.
I grew up in the 2000’s, but Kate Bush has been in my ear since before I could talk or walk. My mom, who was very close to her British and Irish culture, had every one of Kate’s albums on either CD or Tape. She would play them in the car, and one of my earliest memories - that memory where you can sort of feel your brain booting up to actually begin remembering things - was me sitting in the car, in my kids chair, waiting for her outside of a shopping center. Kate’s “Army Dreamers” was playing, and my 4-ish year-old self was hooked. Needless to say, I’m almost overwhelmed by Kate’s sudden resurgence. Living in the U.S., when I mentioned Kate to even those from my mother’s generation, they had no idea who she was - and my generation? Forget about it! 😂 Fast forward to today, and just about everyone has heard Running Up That Hill. I’m so glad Kate’s brilliance has been exposed to so many new people.
So happy to see Kate get the recognition she so much deserves, especially after her shoddy treatment from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, she is a real artist, Singer, Musician that no one gets anywhere near, today!
I've only been in love with her for 44 years. She is the greatest female artist of all-time, any art, any genre, anywhere. And should be spoken of in the company of Shakespeare, Rembrandt, Mozart, Van Gogh, Picasso, Hitchcock, Dylan, Hendrix and Bowie
@@nikf5769 where do l draw the line? Agree with those two because they were bigger than their music. I could've also added Young, Clapton, Springsteen, Cash, Nicks, Page, Mitchell, Prince, Mellencamp, V Morrison
She is my favorite female singer of all time. What an amazing artist! In my humble opinion, she's equivalent to David Bowie in terms of authenticity, creativity, irreverence, relevance, and multi-talent skills. Thank you so much to all of you guys for bringing us those stories. Cheers!!!
We worked with The KT Bush Band for many years up until the pandemic hit, Brian Bath (who played with Kate on the first five albums as well as the Tour Of Life) and Vic King. Brian had so many amazing stories he shared with us! Happy days and lovely people
I will never forget having to travel to a record store that carried "alternative music" in 1985 to buy Hounds of Love, and I will never forget what it felt like dropping the needle on that album for the first time.
AND ALSO the way she's talking about someone being trapped under the ice and sings, "It's me!" What a terrifying concept. Such a potent image of a horrifying dream.
Talking strange things, I drove my 17yo daughter from Melbourne to Sydney a few months back (she's a budding actor and plays guitar and piano). As you may know its a good ten plus hours on the road, so to break the boredom I said let's play someone I think you'll like, Kate Bush. We played her on spotify for hours, then just a couple of weeks back there's Kate on Stranger Things and now one new teenage fan has joined the club. Like you Warren I've always been a great fan and as a DJ in the 80's witnessed her genius and am so glad she has got the chance to be heard again.
I grew up with Kate Bush's music. One thing I have always said is her music transcends time. Majority of the music you really wouldn't pick as being typical of a particular era or decade. She pushed the limits, did what she wanted and it worked. I really would say she is one of the most unique and brilliant artists, maybe ever. She is utterly brilliant in both talent and imagination.
I love how you can pick and choose her music. Like a 'choose your own adventure'. I don't think 'The Dreaming' is her best album, but it's easily my favourite. Its so insanely good and creative and weird. She's an enigma and a genius
the *80s* ... need we say more?? Nope.. the music then itself was on another level totally. *if only I could, If only u would* *get out of this neighborhood* *and go along the country road* *take us back to our childhood* *burn some good'ol dry wood* *let the flames warm up the mood* *staring deep at the charring soot* *milky way crawling to the moon* *Running Up That Hill to take 1 last look*
I never heard of her until her collaboration with Peter Gabriel on Don't Give Up. I backtracked from there. What a voice !!!!! Thanks for the information OVERKILL I love it.
The brilliant video was done by Godley and Creme, 2 of the founding members of 10cc: another overlooked band who's accomplishments vastly overshadowed the only 2 songs most Americans know of them.
I'm over the moon for her. Hopefully in the US it will shine a light on her previous work. Before the "Stranger Things" explosion I was watching Americans reacting to various Kate videos and being totally mesmerised, especially when they realised that she wrote "This Woman's Work" which was covered by Maxwell and I think in another USTV series. Kate's like that sister you grew up with "that don't do music no more" but you keep telling your friends to check her out. You feel so proud. Great insight on the recordings and the gear that was used. Thanks Warren. Cheers.
I think you did Kate Bush honor. And rightly so. What a world - if not several worlds - of harmony, sound and emotion this artist created, drawing in the listener with every phrase, every movement, every note.
And what I've also always found quite interesting: There's not one Crash cymbal sound on the entire album! (and cool to have it confirmed here by Brian Tench, too! 😀)
I find it endlessly fascinating that Peter Gabriel's arbitrary banning of cymbals on PG3 ("Melt") contributed to the creation of THE drum sound of the 1980s. Not only are there no cymbals on 'Hounds of Love', but there are no cymbals on 'In the Air Tonight', which arguably has the most famous drum fill of all time. It's completely mad that a song that is legendary for its compressed and gated drums (the sound pioneered by Gabriel, Padgham, Lillywhite, and Collins) has no hi-hats, crashes, or rides on it. When Gabriel first suggested the "no cymbals" idea, everyone must have thought "PG is crazy, but he's the artist, so let's go along with it", but ten years later (or 40, because it's ever-present in modern synthwave) bands were still using the gated reverb trick that his rule ultimately led to.
@@AutPen38 - Peter Gabriel's intuition must've been on fire back then! 😊 And that 'lucky coincidence' with the gated drum sound was another piece of that puzzle, too! (Quotation marks because there's no such thing as 'luck' or 'coincidence' - Everything happens for a reason! 😁)
@@mightyV444 I think Peter Gabriel has been secretly controlling the record industry since 1971 or something. When he decides he doesn't want to hear hi-hats and he wants to buy the SSL company, he just does it. :D
Thank you, Warren! I have a confession to make; I have fallen in love with Dusty Springfield! No day is complete without hearing at least ONE of her songs. The song that I love the most by Dusty is "The Look of Love". Dusty Springfield is the most successful music artist that England produced after The Beatles. Her songs are timeless classics. Dusty was a singer, a producer and a television presenter. She was ahead of her time. She also had a remarkable come-back with a collaboration with The Pet Shop Boys. She was also a lesbian who "came out" in the 1960s. She also took a public and international stand against apartheid in South Africa during a tour there ... Dusty promoted The Motown singers and musicians on her TV show, and on Ready Steady Go in 1965 (introducing the teenage Stevie Wonder to the British audience). "Dusty in Memphis" is a classical album by this legendary singer. Thanks.
It’s a brilliant song & Hounds of Love is a PERFECT album. Just incredible. I first heard it in 1985, when I was mostly listening to heavy metal - and it absolutely changed my world. Forever.
Kate is the musical Shakespeare of our time. Aerial, more precisely Sky of Honey is the ultimate proof of it. I have been listening to her since the age of 8 and I am 51 now. She has opened horizons in arts to me I was not even aware of, in literature, painting, movies, and many more areas. Thank you Kate and I hope she will release one more time some of her hidden musical gems that may sleep in her studio.
I was a 14-year-old kid in Poland when this album came out and I fell in love with it while also listening to big hair metal. Could not stop listening to it. Good music is good music. I can't respect Americans for not recognizing Kate's talent nearly 40 years ago, and now suddenly loving it. I think it's pathetic and too little too late. I've been in the US for 30 years now, and don't respect their failure to give Kate her dues, just like they have never given Gary Moore his dues.
@@Producelikeapro I love your channel. What a gem. Your insight into great music is terrific and invaluable these days. And what’s a wealth of information. Keep up the fantastic work.
The thing is... as a mucisian... you always measure up to someone... For me it is Jaco Pastorius, Mark King and Kate Bush... she is the real deal... Thanks so much for this episode and your truthful comments... this really helps future generations... thank you so much... And thank you Kate... don't know where to begin...
I've been a fan of Kate since I first saw her perform on Saturday Night Live (in the US) in 1978, and I absolutely fell in love. Several years later, I saw her concert video, "Kate Bush Live at Hammersmith Odeon," and that did it for me. Had I not been in the hospital, recovering from surgery, I would have flown from the US to London to see her in concert, no matter what the cost. Her albums are absolutely very much works of art, even her first album, "The Kick Inside," which has a hold on me like no other album or artist. That album needs to be played as a single experience, every bit as much as Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon." But every one of her albums are amazing, and I so desperately wish they would re-release her Hammersmith Odeon concert on BluRay, as well as her "Before the Dawn" concert, which were her only two "real" concert "tours," 35 years apart!
Its quite funny. I've been huge fan of hers from 15 years old in 1985 and about 2 weeks ago my teenage daughter comes into my room and said this song was the best thing she's ever heard. It is wonderful to see new fans hear her music and this is a wonderful tribute to her. Great video!!!!
That seems to be what Stranger Things has been specializing in for a few years now. Hopefully some of the new listeners will be encouraged to explore her back catalog, rather than treat this incredible song / artist as a passing fad because of its use in a TV show.
An extraordinary song from a most extraordinary album. I've been a Kate fan since her first album came out and hold 'Hounds of Love' up as a true masterpiece. It's so exciting to see the success of 'Running Up That Hill' and renewed interest in her work now. We can only hope she will grace us with another album someday…
Love the rendition of Running up that Hill that Kate does with David Gilmour. How much talent can you get on one stage ! Plus the bassist and backing vocalist is brilliant...despite the haircut. Thanks Warren...that hour slipped away too quickly...
To have been a teenager in 1985, hearing the song for the first time on a medium wave radio was a true revelation then, and it still has so much power now. Great video, and what a delight to hear the story from the down-to-earth, friendly gentlemen who were involved in creating that true wonder of modern music. Bravo!
Just amazing. The Sensual World is absolutely great too.Rocket's Tail ! I'd love to have heard that in the studio. Thank you for this fantastic video !
That was a wonderful breakdown, Warren! At a time when everybody on youtube is trying to make some video about this song, this was definitely the best one. Thanks for that!
Wow! Thanks ever so much André! We didn't want to rush it just to cash in the success of 'Running Up That Hill'. I talk about 'Hound Of Love' ALL the time as being one of the greatest albums ever made, I firmly believe that it deserves the most amount of attention owe can give Kate and this masterpiece!
I have been a Kate fan for over 40 years and I’m American, so we are a rare breed in that sense, there were not many of us back then, but we were a strong bunch. Great song, great album, my favorite Kate album is still The Dreaming though, but the interviews and coverage of the song and the album here is fantastic Warren. Thank you!
I've been a massive KB fan since I heard Wuthering Heights at age 7. And I concur with what you said towards the end of the video: I too have been genuinely happy and excited about this new success for weeks now, it feels almost personal, which is weird as I'm just a superfan but it's not my own song or achievement in any way. But it just feels sooo satisfying. Great episode Warren, I also loved your Wuthering Heights video. As a German expat in L.A. I think we share the almost surreal experience of watching U.S. audiences discover Kates music at a point in time when nobody expected this to happen. Brilliant!
One of my favorite things is watching young people discover older songs. I follow quite a few "reaction" channels just so i can get the second hand rush of seeing some 19 year old kid discovering Boston for the first time live on his channel. So when this song became a hit, i was very excited...mostly because I got to be one of those 19 year old kids. Not only had I never heard this song, i had never even heard of Kate Bush before, so i got to experience this song for the first time right along with all of the kids watching Stranger Things.
Warren, one can immediately sense your absolute reverence for Kate as an artist and force of nature that she has always been. Thank you. What a wonderful deep dive into Kate's career leading up to Hounds of Love also. As an American, I was one of the few reading the English music press back in 1985 and I think it was perhaps an NME or Melody Maker review of the album that caused me to buy it. Like you, I too wore out a few cassettes and albums, immersing myself in this incredible piece of art. Once I had Hounds of Love, I immediately bought Kate's entire library and have since enjoyed all of her body of work for decades but Hounds of Love will always hold it's place as Kate's crowning artistic achievement for me. It's so purely realized and so specific to the place and time in her life that she wrote and recorded it, yet the genius of her themes and artistic accomplishment have absolutely universal and timeless appeal as you point out. Your passion and drive to track down and conduct all of these interviews with Kate's collaborators is much appreciated as well. You're an excellent writer, presenter and interviewer and I enjoy all of your videos but this one took it to the next level. Like you, I am incredibly happy and grateful for the Duffer Brothers and their team bringing Kate's song into their show. It feels like a bit of vindication, especially as an American, to see the rest of the world and especially the younger generation realizing what Kate's music and vision is all about, I am sure that this has been the most thrilling event in Kate's professional life in several years to receive worldwide acclaim and recognition for her masterwork. Back in the 80s and 90s, at least in my American circles, I knew very few others who were into Kate's music as it is so imaginative, free and emotional, most people I tried to introduce her music to, at least over hear in the states, just thought it was weird, they just didn't get it, at all. But that's common with artistic genius, they're often not recognized until the artist is gone, I am so happy Kate is around to experience this outpouring of acclaim for her vision. I recall in the 90s, my family hosted two English foreign exchange students, just for a few nights. In speaking with them, they asked me what kind of music I was into and once I had said Kate Bush, it was like we both spoke the same cultural and musical language, they were teenage girls on their first trip to the States and I will always remember our long conversation about how amazing she and her work was. Thank you Warren for this video, it made my day!
Wow! Thanks ever so much! Yes, I really wanted to make sure we did as much Justice as possible to this I credible masterpiece. I talk about this album all the time in the channel and have name checked it so many times as a masterpiece! So for me, even though rushing out a video a week or two ago would have got more views (ambulance chasing as it were!) it wouldn’t have made sense! Kate Bush is one of the greatest artists of our time and I really wanted to pay her the repair she deserves! I hope we came close
@@Producelikeapro you nailed it Warren, it’s a very worthy tribute to the song, album and artist. Hopefully Kate will see your video, keep trying for an interview with her. I know she’s elusive and basically doesn’t do press but you interviewing Kate would be incredible. Worth trying.

I was fascinated by Kate Bush from my childhood. I remember seeing the video for Babushka on TV when it came out (my first contact with her music) and beeing blown away. As the years went by, I realised apsolutely noone shared my fascination and most people not even knowing who she was. Seeing her music gain so much attention and acknowledgement brings a smile to my face.
Super episode, thanks Warren. Kate Bush is a brilliant artist. The whole Hounds of Love is superb. I also have a soft spot for The Dreaming album which is very quirky and slightly bonkers - in a good way!
"One of my favourite songs of one of my favourite albums...."- bless you for that. :) This song is with me since it came out. Never get tired of it. (Although my favourite song from the album is "Waking the witch") Greetings from Germany.
There are like a dozen of these kinds of videos bouncing around TH-cam right now, capitalizing on the Stranger Things resurgence. Yours is the best by far. Thank you!
I had turned 12 a month before this was released and I remember the impact the R.U.T.H. video had on me in such a manner that I became in love with all things Kate Bush ever since. I'm so happy for her to be acknowleged by a whole generation that also gets the chance to listen to music that is way beyond the current mass produced drivel.
To me all of Kate Bush's albums are musical adventures and masterpieces. She is an incredible artist and very underated at least here in the United States. She never followed musical trends and played by her own rules. Her and Shade are the same in that regard. Amazing 🤩!!
I first saw and became an instant fan of Kate Bush, when she appeared on Saturday Night Live, December 9th 1978, she performed "The Man With The Child In His Eyes" it was the most beautiful other worldly and emotional song I ever heard, never stopped listening to her since, I am an old school 70s Punk Rocker, but if I could only listen to two musicians it would be David Bowie and Kate Bush and I would be happy.
Thanks Warren. I was born in the early 70s in the US and I have absolutely no recollection of this song. It's amazing how something can resonate so strongly in one place and not another. I guess like he said, I was listening to Bon Jovi!
I fell in love with Kate the first time I heard this song on an American alternative radio station in the 80s. I immediately bought everything she had released! I have her complete catalog on CD and vinyl. If you don’t know Kate, you don’t know what you’re missing! ❤❤❤Kate!
The Hounds of Love has always been one of my favourite albums. I bought the cassette tape an played it under the sheets late at night. Side two freaked me out when I was half asleep!
Hounds of Love / Ninth Wave is a masterpiece in my opinion. That initial synth drone sound on Running Up That Hill is ethereal and otherworldly and very special to me.
Here's a fun game for "Waking the Witch," it's called "Where's Hagrid?" Because he's on the song (Robbie Coltrane). My wife picked him out right away but I wouldn't have been able to distinguish him without her finding him first
@@leewright4819 true... :-) But the hair on my neck stands up every time I hear the crowd chant, "Guilty! Guilty! Guilty!", followed by the doubled Simmonesque drums. Also, the way the Linn kick drum progressively ramps in density and intensity fuels the drama of the track. Powerful stuff.
I am very happy that Kate Bush is getting her due! I was fortunate, I w introduced to Kate Bush with her "Hounds Of Love" album on University Radio at UNLV when it was released! Go Kate Go!
Yeah! I am at work but I am so excited to see this full length run down. One of my favorite tracks by an absolutely amazing amazing artist. I did a remake of this last summer for my own fun, used the Arturia CMI V which has many of the original patches from the real unit including the one for the main melody. What a track. Cannot wait to watch this closely this evening!
Kate Bush is genius, she invented the concept of the modern female pop star. Her compositions and production are second to none. Bought her first album when it was released in 1978 !!
Brilliant. So well deserved for Kate. It's a classic, ageless, despite it's sonic era. Beautiful, dynamic, sacred, haunting, and so so original. Personally, I love The Dreaming as much, if not more, which I fell in love with on first hearing, too. There's an equal amout of emotional variety, sensuality, brooding, and experimentation, there, too. The only difference is it was not awash with the big hits, but I don't need big hits, just Kate's ludicrously intelligent, emotional and stunning talent. As for changing the name to placate the American market, as someone pointed out recently, God Only Knows, didn't fail because of a word. Kate is the artist for me, that stands outside of everything else I listen to, then, and now. It's a personal thing, a sort of connection, that when you have it, is there for life
Agree with everything you just said. It’s beautiful to see this generation, reared on a soulless diet of auto tuned non entities masquerading as singers discover the beauty and depth Kates music.
Personally my favorite song on that album is "Hounds of Love," also lovely dreamlike music video. My favorite album is "The Dreaming" which is one of the most unique and sophisticated pieces of music ever.
One of my favourite artists, her best album; I'm delighted that Kate is getting the recognition she so vastly deserves. Listened to the album again yesterday and so blown away how current and modern it still sounds. The new fans are in for a treat when they explore her catalogue.
I love the story about sampling the sound of a rock falling in water for an accent! So ingenious and as they said, these sounds had to be created and are so unique for that reason
I loved this song in 1985, and I love this song now. Isn't it funny how so much of what was really good goes right back to Abbey Road. Whether it was done there, or at Air, or by people who were trained there, Abbey Road was a gigantic influence on modern music. Most people never even knew it existed until the Beatles album of the same name, and I'm pretty sure when I talk about the studio a lot of people think I'm talking about the album.
Part of her connection with a new audience is that she thinks and talks about energy and emotion in a way that is very common today as we are learning to embrace wellbeing and being aware of ourselves. She was simply way ahead of her time. After all the number of huge stars over the last 20 -30 years who have cited her as a key inspiration is vast and there are many contemporary artists drawing on her today. This exploration of the song is excellent.
So deeply thrilled so many know this song better now. That synth, drum and vocal exchange has always been so damn special. It evokes such a defiantly unique and powerful feeling- a haunted, frustrated and striving sensation.
Warren. You have surpassed your own self with this video. So on point, on time and so fast. How on earth do you knock these out so quickly. High Output Warren! Sincere thanks!
Thanks Matt, we did actually take our time with this. I know others have had their videos out already, however we really wanted to make sure we took the time to do this properly! I've name checked Kate Bush and in particular this album so many times I didn't want to rush something out that wasn't properly researched!
For me the fact that this song is N°1 today proves that people are thirsty for real artist that produce music withe meaning and soul that are not very commun in today's music industry.
Always thought the vocal was massively compressed, didn't quite appreciate the level of skill Kate had to employ to handle it. Overall super strong vocal will always stand the test of time. They'll be playing it 100 years after its release.
A sublime video for a sublime album. Thanks so much for doing it. For me, the best one you've done. I was 20 yrs old when this came out and I'd not heard anything like it. It was so cool of Brian Tench to talk about lifting the playing arm and moving it back slightly to either listen again to some strange sound you weren't sure if you'd actually heard, or just to re listen to a passage because it was so incredible, admit it everyone, we all did exactly that...lol. I still love and listen to The Hounds Of Love and it still gives me chills, and brings me to tears.
Thank you for this incredible episode. I was just 10 years old when Wuthering Heights came out, but right away I became a fan. Then when Hounds of Love came out in 87, I drove my cousin crazy playing ONLY this tape non-stop in loop, from Montreal to Key West (about 30 hours). Hounds of Love is the soundtrack of my first and best ever road trip. Thanks again for sharing with us some of the technical details of the remarkable work that went into the making of this phenomenal album. Merci!
I was 14 when this song came out. Was blown away by it then (and still am to this day). It was so unusual, haunting and catchy at the same time. Kate Bush was unlike any other artist then. Totally awesome it is being re-discovered now. Thank you Warren for this excellent documentary.
Kate has been one of my favourites since forever 😊. Her “AERIAL” album from 2005 is also truly brilliant. In fact I would rate it as my favourite of Kate’s albums (if I had to do such a foolish thing as choose a favourite). After more than a decade long hiatus she returned with this double album and it contains some inspired music and gorgeous production. “Joanni” on the first LP of this double album, about Joan of Ark, is genius imo. Pi, How to be Invisible and all the rest are not far behind. Her lyrical imagery and depth are always second to none but how she crafts those into beautiful melodies and creatively inspired and accessible songs is masterful. She deserves all this success, and more! It really only goes to show that a great song is always a great song. The big trick in the ‘80’s was to get all that electronics to sound human. People like Kate and Peter Gabriel did that wonderfully.
Someone to it very correct that TV is dying…it died many years ago for me…TH-cam has nailed it for world population of real content that has real balls. Great video ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I don't remember how many articles and specials I have read/seen about Hounds of Love. This one contains things that nobody else have revealed to fans. It makes a huge different when one is so well informed about the stuff that they research. Thank you so much.
Thanks ever so much! I didn't want to rush it, even though I know it will get more views if I'm 'first' haha. This is one of my favourite ever albums and I talk about it very often! Kate Bush is an amazing talent and the album is a masterpiece so I wanted to give it the proper attention it deserves!
@@Producelikeapro I am so happy that you did not rush it. Believe me, all the effort you put into this is what makes it so special, compared to all the rest. This will be the "inside strory" documentary that will survive for anybody who wants to explore the things that happened in the recording sessions. It is so f****ing exciting that somebody found Stuart Elliott to tell us all these amazing background details because he is a key character in the sonic world of Kate. And Nick Launey and Brian Tench? Honestly, thank you so much and huge respect!
I have never watched stranger things but I am a child of the 80s and I have always been a huge fan of Kate and am obviously obsessed with this song! I think anyone who is older gets a double blessing here. We get to see the song being celebrated once again and blasted all over the radio but we also get the nostalgia. To the creator of this video you genuinely have a gift my man! The way that you explained everything was literally music to my ears ✌️💙
Hope everyone gets to hear the BBC Radio 4 interview they just posted on TH-cam. Kate's as wonderful a human today as ever. Trust me, it will make your day better. Check it out ;)
KATE BUSH. Agreed. My all time favourite female Singer, Songwriter and Producer. Have all her work and live to go back and listen to her production. Admittedly there are some vocal tracks I wince at. Here’s hoping there is more to come. Aerial is still a favourite.
Your deep love and enthusiam for this album and for Kate as an artist is really quite moving. I got a little choked up during your summary at the end because you were speking from you rmusician's heart, and sharing that love for the music. Great video all around! Thanks so much for your huge contributions, and making my life a little brighter from time to time!
I commented yesterday, but just finished watching the entire video, and have to comment again. Absolutely love your child-like admiration and excitement about Kate at the end. I'm exactly like you. This album and The Sensual World give my goosebumps at the very thought of them. There are no words to describe the effect her music has had on me for decades. No words. I know she's human, but the music is out of this world. I love your observation that everything has its own place. Absolutely. From the beautiful vocals to the fast forward tape that on 99% of albums would be completely redundant, nothing is out of place. Reminds me of some of Coltrane's music where he seems to be improvising with random notes, but you realize this is pure genius and it makes the tune. The "Coltrane" album from 1962 is a good example. Liked the interviews, but the last guy was a huge disappointment. Did he really try to argue that Kate is "actually a great singer"? Her voice may be an acquired taste for some with no exposure to good music, but not even a half-deaf person can make a claim she is not a fantastic singer. Comments like this don't belong in a place where any professional was blessed to work with Kate, or a channel covering this great musician. Very disappointing that he would make such comments. I think you changed the subject after he said that as there was no proper response to his inane statement. Well done. As for the American critics, well, there is not much to say. I think especially with female singers they have been very ethnocentric and nationalistic. It's like female singers from other countries don't exist.
Thanks for your comment! FYI as a British person I have had to listen to a lot of people in the US saying they didn’t get her voice (there’s some comments here for instance) so I don’t have a problem with Brian expressing that. Thanks ever so much
Peace Warren. An incredible video on an incredible artist, zoning in on an incredible song re-emerging at an incredible time! Someone in Kate’s life will inevitably get this video to her and as a UK Hip Hop artist I would like to join in and just confirm the span of Kate Bush’s influence and inspiration to be wide and broad. Kate Bush God bless you, you are an amazing original that continues to defy the odds by being the best you that you can be! And that’s what I get from your artistry. Massive respect ❤️💐
Loved this album when it first came out. Hounds of Love and The Dreaming were my introduction to Kate's wonderful music. Such an amazing creator and performer. And thank you so very much for devoting time to discuss this one!!! I played this SO much when it came out and actually destroyed the speakers in my car one night blasting Waking the Witch. Kate's power was just too much!
That was absolutely superb 👏👏 Kate Bush is a musical genius and absolutely my musical hero. My 2 favourite albums of all time are The Dreaming and HOL thanks for a brilliantly presented video
Warren, thank you. A fabulous treatment of the story of "Hounds Of Love". It, like "The Dreaming", "The Sensual World", and "Aerial" changed my life and musicianship, with many heartbreaks and joyfulness centered around them. In the past dozen years, I found another equally inspirational artist, from a later generation: Imogen Heap. She, like Kate Bush is "the real deal" in every way I can imagine, and adds Tech Innovation and improvisational prowess to the mix as well. Hopefully, she won't have to go as long as Kate has without proper worldwide recognition.
Definitely one of the best albums of all time. The Ninth Wave is possibly the most disturbing piece of popular music ever produced but just so intoxicating. Thanks Warren, really appreciate this video.
Definitely agree. I remember playing the A side a couple of times and loving it. I then turned it over. After listening to the B side I recall sitting in awed silence for a couple of minutes. Amazingly moving album. PS, did the engineer guy say the deep "You'll burn" voice on Waking the Witch was Kate Bush herself? I tried replaying that a few times but couldn't quite hear what was said.
@@Rjhs001 Good heavens, that voice has stayed with me for decades. The undercurrent of parochial disapproval is just perfect for that segment. Such talent! Thanks for confirming.
Hey Warren, I love all these videos and feel we really enjoy the same music. And I love what you say about Kate Bush as an artist. I too, have been telling people for years the Kate Bush has the greatest of all imaginations. Any smart alec artists who think what they've created is so wonderful should go and listen to Kate Bush's entire back catalogue before bragging too much about their self professed genius. She's wonderful.

”Cry little sister” from Lost Boys. Classic 80s.
Peter Gunn, Carol's bass line kills it .
Honestly the song change by deftones in the videogame saints row 2 has been such a, wow I love music moment for me. I don't watch TV or movies much anymore but that was a film I played through and listened to that song on there a lot

I'm a big tough metalhead. Kate Bush always makes me cry. Enough said. Thanks Warren.

The drums on the entire HoL album are just incredible...like they're thundering down off a mountaintop.
Agreed! So good!
Thanks.
Rockets Tail is my favorite song of all time, to have been in the studio with Stuart and Kate would be beyond.

The unorthodox use of metrics and pace of the melody / lyrics makes Kate Bush a daring true artist.

Brilliant!
Thanks ever so much! I realer to the expat in LA! Great to be here and enjoy the sun!

To me all of Kate Bush's albums are musical adventures and masterpieces. She is an incredible artist and very underated at least here in the United States. She never followed musical trends and played by her own rules. Her and Shade are the same in that regard. Amazing 🤩!!

I recently went to a Pitch-black playback event which featured a Kate Bush compilation including some of these and it was stunning 😍😍😍
Wow! Thanks ever so much for sharing! I’m a huge Kate Bush fan!
@@Producelikeapro been a fan since 77 😁
I always enjoy your vids
Wow, an hour! What a treat! Fantastic song on a fantastic channel.
Thanks ever so much! I really appreciate it!
I’m still amazed I never heard this song before Stranger Things. That chorus is one of the most epic choruses I’ve ever heard.
Agreed 100%!
So deeply thrilled so many know this song better now. That synth, drum and vocal exchange has always been so damn special. It evokes such a defiantly unique and powerful feeling- a haunted, frustrated and striving sensation.
Thanks ever so much for sharing
Agreed! It will ALWAYS be considered the masterpiece it is!
I really wish this would get a remix! IMO it has some issues but you know... splitting hairs is kinda what we do here.
Dad used to play Kate Bush when I was a kid and it scared the crap out of me. I love it!
Wow! Thanks ever so much! I really appreciate it
Thank you for this incredible episode. Merci!
It's in the trees, it's coming .....
Yes! 'Night Of The Demon' from 1957!
It's all great stuff, but I think The Dreaming is her best work ever!
It's an amazing album!
Yeah, I tend to agree.
@@whycantiremainanonymous8091 it’s a wonderful album!!
Someone to it very correct that TV is dying…it died many years ago for me…TH-cam has nailed it for world population of real content that has real balls. Great video ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks ever so much! I really appreciate it
I don't remember how many articles and specials I have read/seen about Hounds of Love.
@@fethry1636 aw schucks thanks ever so much! I really appreciate it
I have never watched stranger things but I am a child of the 80s and I have always been a huge fan of Kate and am obviously obsessed with this song!
Thanks ever so much for sticking around fr the ending! I love doing those, it really sums up how I feel about the music we talk about!
Thanks ever so much for your wonderful comment! I really appreciate it
Loved this album when it first came out.
Agreed! Both great albums! Thanks ever so much
Warren, thank you. A fabulous treatment of the story of "Hounds Of Love". It, like "The Dreaming", "The Sensual World", and "Aerial" changed my life and musicianship, with many heartbreaks and joyfulness centered around them. In the past dozen years, I found another equally inspirational artist, from a later generation:
Imogen Heap.
She, like Kate Bush is "the real deal" in every way I can imagine, and adds Tech Innovation and improvisational prowess to the mix as well. Hopefully, she won't have to go as long as Kate has without proper worldwide recognition.
Thanks ever so much for the wonderful comment! Yes, Imogen Heap is a huge talent
Definitely one of the best albums of all time. The Ninth Wave is possibly the most disturbing piece of popular music ever produced but just so intoxicating.
Thanks Warren, really appreciate this video.
You are welcome. Thanks for watching
@@davebox588 yes, that's what I heard and it was news to me.
Thanks ever so much for sharing
