Thank you for the instruction, I had just purchased a Garmin 64SX and could not pair my phone. I did not realize that I needed the Garmin Connect App to make it work. Now that I have the App installed I followed your instruction and it works perfectly...Thanks so much for helping the IT challenged!
Thx for your vid. Hopefully you have a follow-up about how to use the GPS while it's paired to the iPhone. One thing this clearly shows is how incredibly cumbersome it is to use the Garmin compared to the iPhone.

I'm new to GPSs but in the past have read the GPSMAP 64s had issues with moving and stopping times. Does anyone know if that got fixed in a firmware update?
We are not getting the issue you have mentioned, it is critical you update the unit software on any new Garmin unit. The 64s has been with us for many years now so any issues have been rectified a little time ago. I hope this helps.
@@bugsaint You can pair it with any ipad, but you are pairing it so you are getting your smart notifications (from ipad/ phone etc) when out in the field, so unless your ipad has connectivity whilst outdoors it is fairly pointless. I hope this helps, Jon
@@ukgpstraining I think I get it now. So yes I can pair but the gaia app on the iPad will still require connectivity. However if I created a hot spot from my phone that should all be fine. So: 1. Gaia/iPad gets GPS from 64s (paired via Bluetooth) 2. Gaia/iPad gets internet connectivity via a hotspot from my mobile phone I'm assuming there's no way for an ipad without celluar to get internet AND GPS from the same iphone?

Hi we have not come across any issue with customers using the iphone 6s to pair, make sure both your GPS device and iphone have the latest software updates available, Garmin do show your phone as been compatible as per the link to follow: www.garminmalta.com/apple-garmin.html, I would contact Grmin Tech support to see if they have come across any issues that we are not aware of, UK Tech Support Telephone number is 023 8052 4000, I hope this helps. I have latest SW installed. The app "Gamin Connect" on my 6S does find the device but pairing failed. Other users seems to have the same problem and the solution was to reinstall firmware 4.0 on the GPSMap64S but I want to stay with 5.0
Apologies I had missed that the iphone6s was not on the list, that could be one of the issues if Garmin have not yet tested the iphone 6s, in our office we only have iphone 5s and iphone 6 to test which are working, I would contact Garmin tech support to see if they have any solutions in the pipeline other than downgrading the software in the GPSmap64s, Regards GPS Training

You can update the GPS using Garmin webupdater, also make sure you have calibrated your compass. I hope this helps.

So, you connect them. Why don't you do one that explains why you connect them?
The reason you pair your device to your gps : Garmin wants your email address VERY BADLY.
Can you do this with Android phones too ?
