This is really quite amazing footage. A real piece of history. The mothership of the Pearl Harbor minisubs, refueller of the two H8K flying boats that carried out a brazen attack on Pearl Harbor in 1943, she was sunk by mistake when her crew forgot to close the control room ventilators. She quickly sank to the bottom, with one crewman escaping via airlock to inform the surface of the sub's plight. She was raised partially in an attempt to free the trapped and still living crew, but before the hatches could be opened the cables parted and the sub sank again. With no more tapping coming from within the hull, the Japanese placed satchel charges on the sub to destroy it to prevent the USA from recovering it. Fair winds and following seas to the brave Japanese crew who met a fate they didn't deserve.

Great video, seeing a piece of history like that would be amazing. I would never have the courage to swim through such narrow openings. Very brave

You make a great point. I got specialized wreck and overhead training before even considering penetrating the sub. Wreck penetration diving is not for everyone, especially with Chuuk being so far from modern medical treatment. For the divers out there, please dive within your limits.

So many sunken war ships there that WW2 ships can be found lying on top of wrecks from WW1.

Why does your light go out at times? Is it because there are remains and you're not showing them out of respect?

I remember watching Jacque Cousteau in the 60's as a kid seeing them go through what was left of the sub and seeing what was left of the bodies in the upper bunks because of the thinning air and probably rising water. Terrible way to die. Just Sayin'.

THIS IS A WAR GRAVE. HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT FOR SOME RECREATIONAL DIVERS TO SWIM THROUGH THE ARIZONA?

This is not a war grave. All bodies were recovered in 1972. There are no bodies inside

Gotta love it when some people run their yappers before checking the facts . 🤔
