    JCH making a youtube channel might possibly be one of the only wonderful things to come out of 2020.

    If you did a series of visiting all the little camera shops in Japan I would watch the hell out of it. This camera shop reminds me a lot of my favorite camera shop in the US, "Alaskan Photographic Repair Service", up in Fairbanks Alaska. One man shop, tucked away on the second floor of the Fairbanks downtown indoor mall. He's been there *forever* and seeing his shop is worth making a trip up to Alaska.

    Thanks for the video Bellamy, it's really great to see the masters from Kanto at work. Too bad the bloody Leica's nearly doubled in price over the last year and a half.

    I came across a chap with a painted M6 done in the "reporter" style which was done by Kanto and from them it's been an absolute grail of mine should he ever decide to sell it. Wonderful to see shops like this and I can sincerely say I hope that they stay around for decades and decades more to come.

    Blimey overnight the JCH TH-cam channel became the de facto best film channel on the platform. What a treat to see these artisans at work repairing and customising cameras by hand!
    As usual so refreshing to hear from someone who actually knows about cameras rather than just an 'influencer'.

    Wow, what a special place. Love they can do single coatings. I remember the first B&W photos I ever shot and developed myself using my dad’s old Yashica rangefinder which had a single coated lens. The negatives had a gorgeous tonal gradation to them.

    Those guys have saved my mamiya 7 twice! Fixed a lens and the shutter lever back in 2017. Amazing service by Kumiko and the team!

    • @mesta1205
      @mesta1205 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Eduardo Oropeza I guess it's pricey. CLA for mamiya 7 was 250$. Fixing the lens was 100$. But, bear in mind it's expert service. One of the OG kanto guys used to be a mamiya engineer. He's actually worked on the mamiya 7 so it felt safe in his hands :)

    I was stationed at Tachikawa Air Force Base from 1966 to 1968 so know the area well. I loved to take the train into Shinjuku and The Ginza to visit camera stores. I also went to the main Tokyo train station then across the street to the Nikon store and also the Nikon repair center when my Nikon F bodies or Nikkor lenses needed service. Akihabara was also quite an interesting area, too.

    I have only seen the place from the customer perspective in the tiny foyer they have. SO great to have a look behind the curtain. This is the single very best place on the planet you could bring your analogue camera to... sadly the turnaround time jumped from 6 to 9 months recently (at least when I spoke to them). Email responses could be quicker tbh... takes around 3-4 weeks to get a response. Amazing place anyway.
