(Buckeye/B1G Fan here) Anyone with an sense can see that FSU would be an asset to either the B1G or SEC. How strong is FSU's chance at the B1G? Believe it or not, the B1G isn't really looking at football power. (Hey, with $100 million per year, you can turn a community college into a D1 school.) They're looking for three specific things. (1) Marketability. We want schools that enhance our overall presence nationally. FSU: 10/10. (2) Recruiting. The B1G needs a greater presence in states with strong high school football programs, like Florida. FSU: 10/10. (3) Academics: The B1G wants schools that can strongly contribute to the B1G's academic alliance. This is a REALLY big deal that football fans often don't understand. The academic alliance allows universities to share research and resources. It also help promote faculty recruitment and placement. THAT'S why the B1G makes such a big deal about AAU status. FSU (currently): 9/10. However, that will likely change when FSU gets an AAU invite in the foreseeable future. So where will FSU go? Where should they go? To a university president or board of trustees, the answer is obvious... accept a B1G invite. Both the B1G and SEC are going to be strong football conferences. Both will have pathways to the NC. However, the B1G will make FSU a truly national team/brand/school with access to affiliation with the nation's leading research schools. Beyond football scores, that enhances the value of everyone holding a FSU diploma.

FSU's mag lab is the only one of its kind in the US and 1 of 12 worldwide. That adds tremendous value to the B1G, who shares research among member schools.

I’ve said for years that he doesn’t even belong on ESPN & that ESPN has these guys on as personalities to push a narrative that they want out. If he’s an SEC guy then he should stay on SEC networks like the one on SEC on ESPN.
To this day I’m still shocked that they even had him on college game day when FSU played Miami that year. Literally nobody cared about what he had to say & all of the analysts had to cut him off constantly because he wasn’t liked. It’s ridiculous tbh. But hear them tell it there’s no bias or they’re not out to get anyone or make them out to be the butt of jokes. Look no further than him as proof. If they really wanted to prove people they’d have pundits from each brand checking him but they don’t.

I went to FSU for computer science and they threw you into the toughest courses from the start. They don't play when it comes to education anymore. Most Unis don't throw you to C right away with highest levels of calc. C developers aren't the most sought after anymore but it's definitely the most fundamental of the languages. Logic, problem solving, etc. They could've started with something sought after like python which is an easier language to learn and more sought after but learning one of the harder languages will get you to learn others quicker. It did for me at least. C is very hardware driven though (jobs that pay higher typically) like lisp and assembly. Something like python or C++ are better for standard applications.

In the early 2000’s, ESPN went all in on SEC football . They could occasionally accept a non-SEC school winning a natty as long as the SEC was the undisputed powerhouse. Then along came “little ole Clemson” beating up on SEC schools and winning championships. Panic set in and the solution was to introduce NIL and the transfer portal to move the balance of power back to the SEC and BG10 ( where ESPN thinks it rightfully belongs). Can’t have ACC schools beating up on the big boys ya know . Then, the final travesty of travesties happens. FSU plays by the rules, uses NIL and the portal to field a 13-0 team and what does ESPN, under the guise of the playoff committee do? Leaves them out of the playoffs for a one loss SEC school(Bama) and a one loss future SEC school (Texas). The only remedy is for the ACC to start kicking the crap out of the ESPN preferred schools on the field, pointing and laughing as they do so.

It's also no longer just about the academics for the B1G. Yes, they'd like to keep that integrity intact, but this is ALL about the money now! They (the powers that be) want to turn this into a minor league format for the NFL, so it is now all about the business end of things. I think it's bad for college football, but they've already determined that this is where they want to go with it. Two SUPER conferences with 24 teams each, playoffs within each conference, and then the two conference winners play for the Natty! I do not like it, but that is where this is going.

Yes the BIG would like the academics to be very high but if that was the main criteria they would have picked up Stanford. No the main driver atm is t.v. markets , new match ups , money , and because of the new viewers down south RECRUITING. New recruiting from down south is a big driver. The new games with Oregon, Washington, USC , UCLA with Penn state , Michigan, Ohio state or the others have the tickets sold out already and dates circled on the calendar. How much interest would be with regular season games with Clemson & Florida state vs Oregon, Michigan, Washington, USC , OHIO STATE , ECT. MONEY MONEY MONEY.

The B10 adding teams the last 10 years has been for one or multiples reason. They added Rutgers not because of its football history and for great matchups for other B10 schools. They were added for the NYC/metro tv market and population. The same applies for Maryland! USC and UCLA were add because of the 1# populated state of California along with the LA tv market. USC also was added because CFB history, winning national titles, tv match ups, tradition and etc. They added Oregon and Washington for USC and UCLA to have matchups out West for 3 games yearly! If the we follow the B10 pattern of behavior with adding teams the last 10 years with huge state population or huge tv market, the next add on teams will come from the state of Florida because Texas is already taken by the SEC.

Why is FSU attractive to the Big 10?
1 They are located in a growing pop area
2 They are located in a hot recruiting area
3 Their academics are better than some existing Big 10 schools
4 They are investing in the school and athletics
5 They have a major asset in a particle accelerator that they need to make a bigger issue of (c'mon marketing guys, get your act together)
6 They have an attractive partner in Miami
As a Michigan grad living in ND country, I get exposure to wonks of all stripes. FSU atletics speak for themselves, but they need to bolster connections to the Big 10. You do that through showing enthusiasm to sharing research with top teaching hospitals (we have 3 of the nation's top 10 and and an affiliation with a 4th), which Stanford was unwilling to do, and possibly using a Florida connection to Michigan in Miami (Stephen Ross is a Michigan grad and major donor.

    • @arronfrazier7873
      @arronfrazier7873 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Everything, you talk about making FSU attractive to the B10 applies to Miami! If you look at the B10 currently constructed when it comes to appealing to its tv partners, the B10 footprint is in 6 of the top 10 populated states. Then, you have a footprint in huge tv market of Chicago, NYC, Philadelphia, DC, and LA. The state of Florida with its multiple top 25 tv markets is the next logic place for the B10. Texas is taken by the SEC already!

@@arronfrazier7873I disagree with FSU and Miami being a better fit for the B1G. First off, you have to look at history and the PAC and B1G have always played each other in the Rose bowl each year prior to all the CFP. Then if you look at academics, Washington is a top five research school, just behind Michigan. Oregon, well Oregon has Nike. I know Miami recently got AAU status, but I'm ignorant as to how they rank nationally or if that even matters. I hear FSU is close to AAU, I couldn't tell you how close or again, if it even matters to the Presidents of the Universities. As you can probably tell, I'm a Washington fan and I'm all for other teams joining the B1G, but there is no way in hell the west coast schools would vote to add anyone at a higher share than what us and the duckies are getting, which is a half shares till the next media deal in 2030. I think Miami would be alright with that, but I think FSU would probably want more, so the SEC might be a better option. Then it's up to ESPN if they wanted to add FSU and whomever else at pro rata which is full shares, plus with that many teams the SEC kinda has to go to nine conferences games, which is even more money ESPN will have to give up. Granted ESPN would save some with a restructured ACC media deal, but not nearly enough to offset the increased SEC payout. Regardless, I hope all ACC teams find a home they are happy with when it's all said and done. Unfortunately, that's not always the case, see Oregon State and Wazzu.

@@troywest7045 This is about CFB! Miami and FSU have done more for and in CFB the last 40 years than everybody currently in the B10 or former PAC 10! This isn't up for debate! Modern CFB drastically changed to what you see today because of Miami and FSU in the 80's and 90's. They help usher CFB to stop being regional into being national! Miami ushered in speed on defense at all 11 positions. Miami was the university/college in 1987 in college to get a Apparel deal for its sports program/football. This is about CFB, money, eye balls and matchups! Miami and FSU are only a hand full of teams in CFB to have 3 or more national titles in the last 50 years. Miami and FSU are EST time. The base top teams not out West are EST! Recruiting is the life line of winning big in CFB. The top schools and even the teams below them in the B10 not out West would benefit in recruiting better in Florida having Miami and FSU in the B10. Those Florida kids would know, they would play in Florida or at home against Miami and FSU at least 3 times in their CFB careers. This is about potential of winning, probability of winning and a history of winning big. Miami and FSU offers that more than Oregon or Washington every could in the B10. Oh by the way, as Miami fan, who lives here in Florida, who is originally from Chicago/MidWest, the state of Florida is 3rd in population and grows daily. Guess, the state is fully of MidWest and East coast transplants who are B10 fans and alums!

The E in ESPN stands for entertainment. Finebaum fully understands this. His show is built for entertainment for his fan base and it spills over to a certain extent to ESPN’s national audience. Your point about his flip flopping is a perfect example. He will appeal to one side of the audience for a while then flip/flop to the other side or sides to get the other or another side to pay attention to his show. What does that accomplish? Increases ratings. What do higher ratings do? Make money.
