- This is the first day of a quick, two day/two night trip up to a spot we've nicknamed Coyote Camp. My Squatchin' partner Kevin has already been up there for a week or so, part of the time by himself, and part of the time with some of our other guys. He has a large group of family and friends who will start arriving on Thursday for the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend, so I'm going to spend a couple of nights there before the crowd descends on the place....
What a great place for the whole family!
Yes it is, Cathy, and there'll be a bunch of folks there. Kevin has a large circle of family and friends....
Thank you Chuck for taking us along…. Be safe and enjoy the weekend!!
You are certainly welcome, my friend! I wish you an enjoyable Holiday weekend as well....
I really like the view from the rim. I'd want to camp there to watch the night sky. Nice video. Thanks 😊
There are camping spots right on the edge all along the Rim. Just don't be a sleepwalker! The night sky is great, but the whole view to the southwest has a glow from the lights of the metro-Phoenix area....
Yes the views from up on the rim are amazing 👍
Yup....it's almost impossible to take a bad picture here....
That is sooo cool that your mom and dad were in the fire service to. 👍🏻
Just for a couple of summers, Ralph. I was actually in the tower the day this fire came over the Rim, and my mother and I watched it from the tower. There were tall pine trees here then, and the frame front was 100 feet or so taller than the trees. It was really something to see....
@@chuckjacobs-arizona7698 what memories Chuck. I bet that was a wild thing to see
As you were telling us the names I noticed a large dark figure with a gray face standing in the way back near some trees.. have fun..
I'll take a look, Jennifer.... Thanks!
It looks so peaceful up there. When I was a kid, I couldn't think of anything I liked better than wandering the woods. I'd practice my "Indian" walking, trying to be quiet as a mouse. Last summer, I was fortunate enough to spend several weeks in the Coconino National Forest and it felt almost as peaceful. Too much traffic for my taste, though. Early mornings were best.
Lisa, you can still find places in the Coconino NF where you can find total solitude, but you have to go to the southern end away from the Flagstaff area. Early mornings are magical....
Man I just wish our forest roads were half that smooth! The potholes are so bad. Mr Flapjack looks glad to be there!
Good morning, Greg! They've been doing quite a bit of work on them lately. That two-track road in the segment where I picked Kevin up hasn't seen any maintenance in many years, but I see that they've pulled out some trees to open it up, so I imagine some updating work is coming. Ol' Flapper is usually pretty happy to be anywhere....
Love those woods.
Me too, Rene, and there's a lot of woods here to love....
👍
Thanks, Tami Jo!
Hope your ear exam went well, Chuck. 😊
It did, Dolly.... Just as I suspected, I have a bit of hearing loss at the higher pitches, but at the mid-range and lower pitches my hearing is normal. No hearing aids needed. WooHoo!!
