I am convinced that as a patron of art for over 60 years, that a number of the artists' work cited and demonstrated in this video are simply the products of mental illness depicted in various forms. I am also convinced that if you were to take these artists, past and present, and put them on a remote island to exhibit only to themselves collectively, the truly disturbed ones would eventually drive the remaining disturbed ones more ma and further into darkness. Without sanity surrounding these people, there would be no shock value. As a result, greater shock would have to be created. The results, in time, would ultimately destroy them.
What’s sanity? These artists are engaging with systems in a way that disrupts the circuitry of the silicon chip we’re attached to, but that doesn’t mean there’s anything sane about the way the majority of the world functions. True leaps and advances are made by people the majority would consider mentally ill (Tesla, Mozart, Jobs, Newton, Van Gogh, West), but the impact they leave behind influences the thought and behaviour patterns of the majority. I think these people are the sane ones living in an insane world, trying to reveal truths to us that we refuse because of our blindness and denial.
Thank you. Those "artists" are unsubversive, ill, sometimes bad people with mediocre skills, creativity and intelligence who's only asset is to shock and promote pedophilia. That's all the core of contemporary art, or the supposed "elite" of it is.
I like art but this episode was rubbish! It looks like artists are trying to push the boundaries of creation but don't know where to go, so they think everything shit they found is art.
I get Picasso, Pollak and Warhol.... But I don't think I could ever be drunk enough to appreciate the art in some woman screaming at the top of her lungs for several minutes.
Hi to all the people on here from the Balenciaga...this video shows that the perversion has always been there.... Our human heart is sinful and corrupt, Art should aspire to beauty and what is good but our carnal nature naturally likes to transcend to shock, pervert, indulge and degrade...God warns us that whatever we focus our eyes on, affects our inner spiritual state so we should focus them on ..." Whatever is right, good, pure, ...." Not evil, satanic, perverse, exploitive , lewd etc... From the position of someone that studied art back in the 80s in the UK I remember this era of Damien Hirst , Tracy Elgin, etc...it was pretty funny to some of us watching these apparently smart art critics and elites go so crazy over severed animals in formaldehyde and condoms strewn on crumpled sheets calling it " Art"... It was like watching " The Emporer with no clothes" and everyone drank the Kool aid 😂
@@b.t4604 Sources? I know Balenciaga just did a pedo companies, most contemporary art is about gore or pedo depiction these past years, but live humans? I have yet to see although it wouldn't surprise me.
These are the risen devils who lied in darkness, and shackles, and now are out for a short while to do all the evil, and horrors they can-run wild, however….they’ve had many pawns, puppets doing on their behalf for eons!
For me are the biggest shock artists the one who paint beautiful landscapes and happy people in a fucked up, sick and blind world as ours. Its only logical to me that a person who believes in a holly world or in so called holly scriptures is not one who could understand something so complex and profound as human creative self. I agree that a lot of people portrayed in these documentary are showmen but so is the narrator himself so one can not take it seriously.
no matter what people want or agree on as being art if you cant draw and compose a good picture sorry youll never be an artist despite the word artist being made generic
He's a very good insightful commentator, but if he knew about Hirst's ripping-off of better artist's works (like Lekay, Robiinson, Haake, Downing, etc) I bet his enthusiasm for Hirst's fraudulent bullshit would disappear!!
No one figured it out yet? The Scream is nothing more than a person excited to see someone at that moment. Look at the people leaning against the railing as they soak in the lovely summer day. Their is no reason for anyone to scream like a phsycho in that setting. The critics have you duped.
Funny, the presenter actually seems to think that contemporary art sometimes shocks people. "Shocking" art is so last season, it just makes people yawn, they've already seen too much porn and horror movies.
@JONATHAN SUTCLIFFE This little Jonathan guy loves shouting out loud like a pubescent child, hoping someone will finally listen to him. He gets the opposite. People move on without reading.

Mathew. What does existential mean? Art people through this word around all the time. But never define it. Did you really have to say "lightness of being"? One of the most overated films of all time. But , like so many trendy things, it still is dropped in convetsation as if it were some code phrase, "I am soooo intelligent". I as an artist try to keep the hip culture out of my speech, if possible. When someone says "Anselm Kieffer", I tune out. Gilbert and George.

Have seen it. I don't agree with him. He is wrong and stifled. I do agree with him, When you are talking about architecture, and maybe even more when you are talking about the idea of cultivating personal strength and grace etc, But the world of art and expression demands the ability to express what needs to be expressed, and the fact is that reality itself, especially as created by humans is full of horrors and ugliness. Art is only art. Art can never be offensive. War and greed are.
So what you're basically saying is "I dont like art that exaggerates shocking or morbid aspects of modern life". Thats the current trend, you may have to get used to that. Less caustic artists DO STILL EXIST you know. Not all artists are out to revile or shock you. Also, artists are INHERENTLY narcissistic once they become famous, once they have become an accepted "brand". If issues must be faced, then what better way to present them than by putting them right up there in front of your peers.
