Great video.
I'm missing something...
I have castles level 40, 33, and 3 at 32.
All 5 castles have 3 of the 5 requirements claimed.
Resources, threats, and speed-ups.
I've completed rallies and earned thousands of blue gems, but they don't register on the counter. As for red gems, I have no idea what to do in order to consume them.
What am I doing wrong?

Red gems are needed to train Merc troops at the Merc dock. You'll see the number required next to the other resources when you go to train.
The blue gem thing is kinda weird. Does it show 0/20000? If so, just making sure, you have constructed the red and blue gem mines correct? Near your sanctuary.

There's a building called Merc Dock near the sanctuary. It's where you train Merc troops. What castle level are you?

I got it. I wasn’t told that I had to finish the scroll missions on the bottom left in order for me to obtain my merc area, now that I have my blue gems. It’s time to work on the red.

Where are the Activation quest located

What castle level are you? You need to be at least C32. It will be located just south of your red and blue gem mines, outside the wall. When you tap that, you'll see the quests.

The blue gems help you do research in the Merc arena and the red gems allow you to train Merc troops at the Merc dock. I don't remember the level for those. Probably C32 also so keep going, you're getting there.

The red and blue mines are West of your sanctuary, inside the walls. Two of each will open when you get to that level. Two more of each will open when you get to 46.
