I have gotten some snide and hostile comments over letting the big bull go and being courteous of other hunters in the area. I think it is a sad display of the values of hunters and what has become of hunting in the last 20 years. What happened to enjoying the hunt and the antlers being a bonus? I've been hunting my whole life and there was definitely a time when I would have done everything in my power to kill that bull. But as we mature, little things like big bulls should be let go when big things like our word is on the line. It is disheartening to read some of the comments I'm getting. It was my elk hunt and my decision and the fact that I even have to write this is a sad testimony to the destruction of hunting. If it troubles your soul to watch someone pass up an elk you have a troubled soul indeed. God bless

I also begin to grow concerned about the attitude of some folk. But try not to worry about those comments, brother. Your heart's in the right place and If others can't see it, thats their problem. Im sure you know better than I do, that we all take different paths to reach maturity. When certain things fall into place, They'll understand why you made the choices you made, and they'll learn to respect those choices. The important part is that you remain true to yourself and make choices you can be proud of, and from what I can tell you're doing a wonderful job at that.

I thought that not chasing/hunting the bull was puzzling....That being said, it takes one heck of a good man to stand by his word and you were still truly blessed to take that great bull. God Bless you brother!!!

A man is only as good as his word. Shows amazing character to walk away from a prize like that because you know it is the “right” thing to do. While people berate you, they are also they type of people that likely have never had the chance. Seriously impressed by the character required to walk away.

Hello, I want to tell you thank you for your testimony of who God is in your life and how he is providing for you. Stay encouraged and stay strong in the LORD. I would love to become a prayer warrior/partner for you, family, and your hunts. I moved to Wyoming just 2 years ago to begin my new ministry transitioning from 20+ years of youth ministry to that of a lead pastor of a church. I have yet to take my first bull, but your attitude and real life experiences are encouraging. Keep up the good fight and run the good race. Your identity is with Christ and not with man.

No better church that the great outdoors! I enjoy going to Mass, but can't wait to get in the woods... and pray, self-reflection, being by yourself in the middle of God's creations, It makes me feel so small but so blessed to see things many people will never see... My two sons now feel the same way. I pray they continue to serve the Lord and keep the woods sacred to their hearts. God Bless Brother, keep up the good work!

I have love hunting for the past 25years in the midwest. Now I'm learning about elk. Hope to harvest my first this year God willing. I am not your typical hunter, Lots of challenges..,..fear, age , but am thankful for the opportunity. Wonderful video! Thank you!

So im the friend! Thanks for the hunt Justin! If you respect other people while hunting 9 out 10 times they will show you the same respect! Just so happened that big bull and 2 others just as big happened to be right below me that day and opening morning!! As "luck" would have it my brother shot a 6x6 satellite bull out of that heard to mintues later watch this big bull walk out at 250 yds. Shortly after 1 of the outfitters guys spooked the whole heard which ended up crossing the drainage and passed Justin 1 ridge over from where he was cleaning up his bull!! And if im not mistaken within several 100 yds of where the mule deer buck was that Justin ended up backing out on!! So who knows maybe if Justin would of passed on the bull he shot he could of ended up getting his buck and bull combo in the same day!!

Congrats on a solid bull! Kudos on the respect you showed your buddy on leaving that bull alone for him. I would NEVER agree w/ leaving an area alone for an outfitter to hunt on public land. I would respect him and his clients if they were on the elk first, but that's as far as I'd go with my courtesy.

I have hunted with others all of my life but never have taken an elk of my own. I didn't need to because my husband always got his. In our home, as long as there is an elk in the freezer, our family is fed. I decided that I will put at least one in the freezer because I am doing the work. The six hour hike, through the snow just to get in to make the shot; boning out the meat and helping pack it out. It's usually a rush rush thing for me to get camp set up because I absolutely cannot wait to get up on the mountain and just BE. To pray, to watch, to feel, to smell. I enjoy the hike but also to locate some bulls then choose a spot where I can see and feel everything that God sets out before me. That is my church, boys. It's how i survive going to work in an office in the heart of the city every weekday of every month. Now that the kids are grown, I have begun to feel my age and the miles and the work i have done-well I'm reminded of the next day. Do you think that will stop me from getting out and enjoying God's beauty and bounty-no. When i die, maybe you can look for me in the spot where the big elk and deer are at the top of an Idaho mountain with no one else around for miles-because most of ya'll are hunting from a truck! Justin, you captured this perfectly. God IS good. He rewards us when we listen. Your hunt was everything you could have asked for, and you gave thanks to the One who made it possible. May God continue to fill your eyes with beauty, your heart with this kind of moral dilemmas, your freezer with meat, and your mind with glorious memories. Oh, and a warm fire. Thank you very much for sharing.

Amen my brother. It really is all about our Lord. Everything we enjoy is really a gift from Him. He made all of the creation, including the great animals we pursue. They're just a fringe benefit of His goodness. I'm sure He gets pleasure out of His children's happiness. He's such a wonderful father.

I just got my hunting license. I got a elk tag for unit 39. I feel in love with hunting for the experience, the connection with the the wilderness, and for the love of animal. Thank you for being a great example of how hunters should be! I personally don’t care about trophy hunting. I also view it as a bonus, I’m excited to provide meat I harvested for my family. I have so much to learn, I haven’t even seen a wild elk yet. Not sure if my unit is terrible or I haven’t figured out what to look for. I’ve been scouting a lot I haven’t even heard them bulge yet.

I am a flat lander and hunt white tail on private ground and I have only dreamed of adventures such as yours. Today I am too old and fat to pursue such adventures. I have to hunt with my sons and others to help with the heavy lifting however successful and God has blessed us with many kills. Thank you so much for your hard work and sharing . God bless.

Hi Justin, That was an incredible hunt. Such beautiful high country. I was scheduled to bow hunt south of Salmon, ID, last year but tore my knee up and couldn't make it. Was able to make a limited draw muzzle loader hunt and really struggled physically with the knee pain. My buddy came in and helped me, we got on some cows, and he was able to call in a great 300+ bull for me to about 110 yards. Unfortunately, I had a hang fire and missed high. Passed on some spikes and went home to a nearly empty freezer. But that's hunting, it was great to be in the mountains again, the weather was great and my friend really came through for me. Thanks again for a great story. Your editing is pretty good and your horses are awesome. I'll be in the Bob Marshall this fall, 24 mile ride in for 9 days! God Bless!

I totally respect saving the big one for your friend. The outfitter on the other hand has no business asking you not to hunt on any piece of public land. Outfitters typically think they own the mountain, which they don't, they just have a license to take PAYING clients in a specified spot. Unless he gave you information on where to hunt and divulged valuable information that you didn't already know, then you didn't owe him anything.

    • @LimitlessOutdoors
      @LimitlessOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I hear you! We made an agreement that they wouldn't come up in my drainage if I left that one for them. They kept their word and I kept mine. I don't go into the backcountry to do combat elk hunting and get in arguments. I go to get away :-)

Raising a beef now, I'll find it sad when I put him down. But will still do it and butcher him out into steaks 🥩. Look forward to that sad day. But look forward more to the return of Christ. More so then ever actuall.

Justin, I am very impressed with you, and your character, you are able to live with yourself and be happy with your decisions, and God helps those who are honest! You passed up a bull the would have put great antlers on your wall, but you would have had to grind most of the meat, the bull you took had some very great steaks and was a really good trophy too! You are truly blessed to live in that great country, and to be able to do on your own, and have a great experience at the same time. I personally would not have the confidence to do it all on my own, and at 70 years old nor do I have the physical stamina anymore, but you had a great hunt, and may you have many more in the future!! Loved the whole thing, the music is fine, I really don't like music on a hunting video, there isn't any music out there in the mountains and I like to see and hear it just the way it happened, but your choice was not distracting! All around a great video!! THanks.

What an amazing adventure, I pray one day I'll be blessed with a trip like yours. My dream hunt is to ride horses on a trail and bow hunting and trophy Elk 6×6 or 7×7. I've on been on a house 2 times in my life, never hunted Elk, and I've never hiked in the mountains. That is what makes a dream all around. If God deems it necessary them my dreams will come to a head and I shall let my arrow fly swiftly threw the crisp mountain air and seek the warmth of a Bulls beating heart. And end the day with an AMEN.

Great hunt man and congrats! I enjoyed your point of view and it was superb for self filming. I do a lot of self filming and it's definitely difficult to get both the animal and shot off in the same view. You are absolutely correct in your statement at the top, and unfortunately, a lot of hunters are against each other and it ultimately hurts hunting in the end. Hunters need to support each other. Once again, congrats, and you made me a subscriber.

This so reminds me of my Solo Bighorn Sheep hunts in a Beautiful part of the Cariboo region of British Columbia, where I too would go to read Scriptures, Pray Often and lay under the heavens at night, listening to coyotes, and seeing the immensity of Gods Creations. The Sheep Hunting was more of the excuse to go , not really the reason. It was my week of Retreat, Refresh and Recharge! Enjoyed your hunt.

I’m always watching hunting, and trapping videos. It amazes me what you guys do 👍🏾, and I love it when animals are prepared after the hunt and to the fire. I would like to experience it. It would be my very first time. I’m a city girl and afraid, but willing to try. Y’all make it look so easy. I have never tasted any bear or deer😐 Any takers 🤗

I’ll agree with you on most of what you say but most of all is the hunting by yourself. Nothing more peaceful and fulfilling to the sole
