    Notice, almost all these repairs are on a yz. Same boat here

      The YZ is getting up there on age. She is 19 years old but is still our trusty backup bike.

      @@startracing9062 mine is 20. I broke the frame rails below the pipe, separated 2 in. You should of see that process, took me 4 hrs. I've gone through 3 kick starters and I had to race it at the SE Regional b/c the 450 blew up. It's in stock form these days and not competitive.

    excellent video. I have a new to me bike that may require tank repair. No one makes replacements.

    can you sand it down and smoothen it after! or you think that would compromise the weld?

    • @devinpratt6105
      @devinpratt6105 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on if you weld it deep enough

    Thanks bud, this is great to know. I think I did the exact same thing to my buddies tank. Is there any way to tell the correct temp if using a standard controller? I'm thinking I'll try to find the welding tip and just buy a iron. All I have is a gun right now and a controller.
    How much was the kit?

    • @startracing9062
      @startracing9062  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No sure what the temp is. I just went out to look and see if it said on the controller but it doesn't. I would try to search and see what temp is recommend for the type of plastic and you may find it. I think i paid $200 from our Snap-On. I bought this thing like 10 years ago so i just can't remember exactly.

    how do you identify what plastic its made from?

    • @startracing9062
      @startracing9062  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is usually stamped on the plastic somewhere like "PP"

    I can’t believe I have to say this but knowing gas is thinner than water and that your going to test it with soap and water and your gauge shows it holding pressure, doesn’t that make filling it with water pretty pointless? Just saying.

    • @Quinton_360
      @Quinton_360 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bonus points. The mityvac that he's using is only capable of a VACUUM so negative pressure. Not positive pressure

    so looks like all plastic fuel tanks have polyethylene so i really should get a welding gun

    • @startracing9062
      @startracing9062  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It might be a good idea. Also, I still have this bike and the tank is holding strong. So I would consider this repair a permanent fix.
