    Accidents happen. I thought you handled it with incredible calm. Most people would have been screaming, cussing or crying - you may have been screaming at yourself inside, but you were totally professional during the whole thing. Tip of the hat to you!
    The first thing my da said after my first accident was, “Are you ok.”
    And then, “Don’t worry - it’s just metal - that’s what insurance is for.”
    So glad you’re all ok.

      I thought the recovery was lacking, myself. They picked it up from the bottom first, and dragged it across its top and made the roof worse? Why would they do that?

    • @Subarashii_Nem
      @Subarashii_Nem 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@dethmaul The chassis of the crush is the strongest part, it was the only way to lift it without causing way worse damage. It's a heavy piece of equipment and metal likes to bend and even snap under pressure. The way they did it was the only way to do it without destroying the entire thing. The roof may be gone but everything else about it is in perfectly good working order. If one of the doors or mechanisms to hold the cow was damaged the crush wouldnt be able to be used at all. Better a roof that isn't important to the structure or function than the entire thing being broken.

      Sorry but I don't agree here, yeah yellow paint and all that would help. But situational awareness would be far more important . Driving that jeep with a 4 tonne trailer in the wrong hands could be an absolute death trap, that's why they brought out trailer driving tests.
      And to drive of the edge of a 2 foot drop and say you didn't see it ?? Sorry I would say that is where the main problem lies.
      I now expect to get abuse for not following the awk it wasn't your fault Craigy boy line. But then Farms are dangerous and farm machinery even more so, and knowing that a child was killed when an empty horse box toppled and crushed them, I'll take the abuse as long as one person takes heed of what I said.

      He was saying insurance is for accidents like this, which should still be rare. No one is suggesting Craig threw caution to the wind knowing he had insurance. He just made a mistake and a business should carry insurance or set funds aside since it's foreseeable accidents will happen one day. So it's perfectly correct to say "this is what insurance is for" it's to manage risk to company assets if loss would be detrimental to the company.
      The fact the owner immediately was not too worried about the equipment just about safety of employees/friends speaks to that he is good businessman having likely funds or insurance ready for situations like this.

      Yeah, that's the first thing I noticed: all same color, driving into the sun (so no shadows) with no apparent markings, plus a right-hand drive vehicle so Craig had the whole hood between him and the drop; throw in some fatigue and "end-of-the-day-itis"...I could easily have made a similar mistake. I understand Craig was standing next to the drop to clean the crush, but just because you see a hazard in one context doesn't necessarily mean you internalize the hazard in a different context, even if the two are only seconds apart.
      The fact that it's a known hazard that hasn't gotten fixed...the medic in me is just shaking his head. I know the farmer doesn't want to hurt someone, and I know this is all inadvertent and unintentional, but...I've seen similar minor issues turn tragic. I hope that all of the parties involved take it as a learning experience, rather than just a reason to rag on poor Craigy, and I'm glad nobody got hurt this time.

    Oh poor Craigie Boy! What an absolutely mortifying experience. Hopefully the farm considers painting that ledge so it's more visible! He's been excellent covering while you're gone, and his trimming looks lovely! Seems like the main thing he has left to grow is his confidence by doing exactly what he has been this past week or so! Trimming is certainly one of those skills that gets to a point where you just have to get out there and do TONS of it, see hundreds of thousands of feet, and deal with all the differences and issues that come up. Life goes on Craig, you'll be forever paranoid about your driving route on farm, but you very likely won't get caught by a well disguised step again. You have a lovely boss who is very understanding, and lots more cows who need your assistance keeping comfortable and sound!
