The trees in the picture diverged from cedar-like trees over 200 million years ago. All true cedars all have needles, like this: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/06/Cedrus_atlantica2.jpg
False cedars have similar needles or scale-like leaves and neither true cedars nor false cedars get yellow leaves in the fall. In case you were interested.
