      Turning red slowing , the squirrels grab some and bite them , and leaves them on the ground , I am praying they will turn red soon so I can pick them also , and still trying to keep my little watermelons safe from the possum that’s eating them , I am so mad

    Your harvest was amazing. If you let your onions dry. The tops will dry, and get crispy. They will last longer on the shelf. I’m amazed at your watermelon patch. Gorgeous! I’m watching my melons like a hawk. I picked up more shade cloth. I’m going yo try and get them up this week somehow. I love the shirt and the shirt idea…say goodnight to the people. I don't know how I missed your comment! Thank you so much, I will tell my sister hello! Every season at the beginning and end, I amend my soil with compost. I also use a lot of bone meal. I use the Alaska Morbloom 0-10-10 water soluble fertilizer. Keep them watered. That's about all I do. Let me know if you have anymore questions. Thank you so much for watching!!

    Lisa, your melons look great, I wish I could grow watermelons, I tried two years, but they died, I love watermelon, but I think I have to give up trying (zone 7)

    • @gardeningwithlisa
      @gardeningwithlisa  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello! Don't give up! I started growing melons in 2020 and again in 2021. I grew them in those black containers. They would be so small! Now I think about it, I think I had about 4 to 5 plants in one container. That's too many big watermelon in a small space. So, in 2022 we started that mound and it was only like 6 ft long and the melons grew well! We were so happy! In 2023 we made the mound about 15 ft long, and we put down the black weed barrier and made that 8ft wide and we fenced in the garden. We grew the biggest watermelons ever for us!! 😀😀😉😉 I pray this year will be just as great if not better!! You smaller melons will grow fine in a container, but big watermelons like Jubilee, I feel like you have to grow those inground so their roots can spread out. Even if you just grow one plant, you will get maybe 3 to 4 watermelons. My mound is made up of potting soil, and lots of compost. I use a lot of bone meal. Melons needs lots of Phosphorous and Potassium. I use the Alaska Morbloom 0-10-10 water soluble fertilizer. So, if you don't succeed try again but change it up until you can get it the way you want. I think it's all in your soil. I amend my soil with lots of compost every Fall when I take out the plants, and again every Spring when I'm about to plant again. Melons are heavy feeders so they love lots of compost. After a season or 2 of gardening, your soil began to get rich and fertile. I do this in my whole garden, not just my melon mound. Didn't mean to type such a long response, I just don't want you to give up growing melons! Thank you for watching!😊😊

    Lisa have the same problems with my big boy tomatoes as well. I have 12 or more plants and each time I go out to look at them I pull friut off that have black rot on the bottom.

    • @gardeningwithlisa
      @gardeningwithlisa  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Something had eaten into that one. I hate when that happens! If you are having a problem with several of your tomatoes or peppers have the rot on the bottom, your plants maybe suffering from a lack of calcium. When that happens the fruit will get Blossom End Rot. That's why I plant my peppers and tomatoes with epson salt. Some people says that's a myth, but it works for me. I used to get it all the time until I started planting with epson salt and I don't get it as much anymore. I think it is some fertilizer you can get with Calcium you can put that on it. Maybe google it. I don't want to tell you the wrong thing to resolve that problem. I do appreciate you watching!!
