"Just show up". Great yet simple words to live by. Thanks for this uplifting and heartfelt post. Your late friend Bob would be proud of you for this I'm sure.
Your such an incredible person man, I've subscribed to your channel about a year ago, I own a Peugeot U0-8 and a Peugeot PKN-10(my first owned, my prized possession) you literally taught me (and continue too teach me) everything about these bikes, a new found love for bike riding I developed, absorbing in all the knowledge you teach your viewers, your view on living life is a testament from the bond you had with your friend Bob, im truly sorry for your loss, I too lost my aunt to COVID and it's gut wrenching to know the devastation it brought to so many people, and seeing how you keep his memory alive is awesome, bike riding is more than just some people pedaling on some dirt path, it's a Passion that takes dedication, appreciation and common love and respect for one another, thank you for being true to yourself and sharing your m knowledge with us, if you wonder if your message reaches your subscribers, I can for sure tell you it does....
Wow. I truly appreciate your comment. I’m sitting next to my bike, outside in downtown Akron and I think I got something in my eye 🥲. I’m sorry for you’re loss as well. I don’t know how I would have made it through the last few years without bikes. Cheers brother.
I stumbled across your video looking for another cycling video and I am so glad that I did. Beautiful scenery and commentary and most of all the beautiful sentiments of a close knit cycling community remembering one of their friends, Bob. I'm not the best cyclist and was quite intimidated turning up for the local group ride with fitter people with expensive bikes and quickly got dropped on the ride so I now ride on my own. I'd love a small community like yours to ride with, no pressure and hopefully I will find one soon, I'm in Tasmania, Australia. Until then I will keep getting out and 'showing up' and hopefully meet people of my same level of fitness and with no judgement and just ride for fun. I might even try to set up something myself. Thank you for your video, I will now check out al the others. Keep up the great work Tim, you are great encourager.
and the whole photoboard for Bob made me tear up because I wonder how people will remember each one of us, that was so lovely. What a fitting tribute to what was I am sure a beautiful man. Rest in Peace Bobik.
Thanks for your comments - I truly appreciate them. I've talked to a number of people over the years who couldn't find an existing group to ride with so the created their own. It is an excellent idea and takes little more than a Facebook event or something similar. If you feel like you aren't finding what you want out there it is a good bet there are other people in the same boat. We do a thing in Akron called Bike Party - third Friday off every month - chill ten mile night ride that is "no drop". Rides like that get people together and people then make new friends and form other rides more specific to how they want to ride. It will just keep growing. Good luck to you and thanks again!
Thank you Tim, and very well said. This video brought up a lot of things for me. I recently also rode to a celebration of life for the mother of a dear friend of mine. It was a rollercoaster of emotions, but the overarching feeling was an immense sense of gratitude for my own community, and for being able to experience this beautiful world, especially by bicycle. My soul was so buoyed by the event that when I reached home, I decided to ride around the city and push the mileage from 85 to 100. I've also been trying to go on more group rides, meet more people, and be more spontaneous, after dealing with depression for years and finally starting psychotherapy. For meeting people, the group rides are a great alternative to the usual bar / club scene. And I think what you said about "showing up" is hugely important. I've never regretted it either. I have definitely been trying to show up more for my friends and family, but I think what is also important is that I try not to beat myself up too much if I miss out on something. That will just perpetuate a negative cycle. Thanks again, Tim
Awesome Robin. Thanks for sharing. …and I definitely agree - we need to show up when we can but we do need to know our boundaries and limitations. I meant to say in the vid that I know I’m far from perfect in that(or any) regard and I wish I had - but that is ok and normal. Ride on man - been amazed by your photos from the trip!
Beautiful instead. I found your statement and sentiment about “showing up” to be absolutely correct and important to acknowledge. Like you ever time I have showed up, no matter how inconvenient it was I was glad I did. They say 80% of success in life is just showing up, thanks for sharing.
Well said Tim, I’m sorry you lost a friend & fellow riding buddy. Here in Pa we do the same type of riding that you & your crew do & we all have each other’s back’s & always welcome new riders to our group & we all have the same passion for bikes & riding, the cycling community is awesome, stay safe!
Condolences to Bob's relatives and friends, and may he continue to have a special place in your hearts and thoughts. This ride and meet up reminds us that in addition to its benefits to body and mind, cycling allows us to share the best qualities that our humanity allows us. Thank you for wonderfully sharing this painful, yet joyful, experience with us.
Great advice! I'm that more introverted person, but I'll still show up. It's good to support people, even if your not even that close. You just never know when others can't show up, and others will appreciate you. I'm still looking for my bike community. I mean, I know where to find people, but they're either going for speed on the road, or others just looking to put a few miles on, and then a bar. I'm starting to find myself gravitating towards touring. And still in need to build a proper touring bike. Any advice to finding a group? I'm planning to do a portion of the GAP on my own, but it's because I don't know any others who care to do that.
I’m surprisingly shy in real life - my advice would be to look for chill group rides: Critical Mass, Bike Parties, check with your local shops - I’ve seen so many friendships and smaller groups form over rides like that. …and we have bike conversations to fall back on - ask people about their bikes when you meet them - people love to talk about them!
I thought I was clicking on this video because you were quitting youtube. But realized, I am watching your videos because I need to make some friends. I am super shy, but I ride alot. TH-cam has me watching your channel because of the C and O. subscribing keep riding!
I’m not the most outgoing person either but bikes are a great way to meet people and make friends. See if there are any chill group rides around. Compliment people on their bikes - cyclists love to talk about their bikes! Cheers! 😎
Hi. Were some of those bike old school mtbs converted to drop bars? Been thinking of trying such a project or maybe just splashing out on a 2nd hand gravel or cross bike.
Hey - nice chatting last night! Yes - I'm riding a 1996 Team Marin that I put Velo Orange Bars on and 9 speed Shimano Ultegra road groupset(amongst other things). My buddy Tony is riding a converted Diamond Back. As we were saying last nights - neo-retro builds can get costly real fast - and some parts can be hard to convert. It all depends on how you want to go about it. There are definitely used gravelbikes/cross bikes out there now that would have modern standards and be a good deal. Doing the conversions is more worth it if you enjoy doing work yourself imo.
There are a lot of chill rides in NEO Ohio - Bike Party, Slow Roll Cleveland, Yeti Squad etc - a lot of people meet through those kind of rides then go on to do things on there own. Always worth checking with local bike shops to see if there is anything. Thanks - I appreciate that.
So true! I worked at a working farm but also popular market for years. All the younger employees packing corn and running registers would ask why I got to drive the tractors - "I showed up everyday" honest answer.
Thanks you. No - thankfully Brad fully recovered. This was a friend who passed last December- the family waited until summer(outdoors) to get together.
You had to bring up the bigC... you could have just said, "a friend of ours passed away recently" We don't need the details.. Talk about the friend and those who attended.. Sorry you lost a friend..
“Show up” is some of the best advice ever, Tim.
Condolences to all those who knew and loved this Bob.
Thank you!

Show up. Its not about you. Its about respect and comforting.
💯
I'm such a slow rider IDK if finding a group of riders will ever be in the cards. Sorry to hear about your friend.

Years ago Woody Allen said “THE BIGGEST PART OF LIFE IS JUST SHOWING UP”. 😄
So true! I worked at a working farm but also popular market for years. All the younger employees packing corn and running registers would ask why I got to drive the tractors - "I showed up everyday" honest answer.
sorry for your loss. was this the gent that got covid at cumberland ?
Thanks you. No - thankfully Brad fully recovered. This was a friend who passed last December- the family waited until summer(outdoors) to get together.
💪🏽❤️
Cool video!
Thanks.
What are your sunglasses?
They are literally called “Sports”. Bought em at a state park campground in PA. 😎
Wish I could have made it.
It was a really nice afternoon.

No idea what you mean. He died from Covid 19 - a coronavirus.
