    Positive words in a musical world that is missing any clear voice on this generations troubled social path away from democracy and tolerance towards insurrection...if there was ever a time and need for more musicians it is certainly here and now. Right on sister!

    I've been taking online lessons for many years now and like them a lot. Before the pandemic it was always with Skype which I liked. With pandemic people went Zoom crazy and that is what I doing with an online music program and with private piano lesson. I wish Zoom would realize how many people are using Zoom for music and have settings for music, Zoom's settings are too focused on corporate users in meets or a classroom and teacher and student talking. I switched my private teacher because no matter how many times I would tell Zoom is being a problem she kept doing the same thing. Like all online software there is a latency issue so teacher and student playing together in general doesn't work. A beginner probably doesn't notice the latency but more experienced student will. Second Zoom being focused on talking drops the volume on everyone except who it things is the main speak at that moment. So besides a latency issue Zoom start dropping the audio down on whoever it deems isn't the main person playing. Last complaint about Zoom compared to Skype. With Skype I could just click a button and record my lesson. I got more out of the lesson because I didn't have to take notes, I would just review the recorded lesson later. Zoom I have to get the teacher to make a recording on his end then send me the file afterwards.
    Lens setup was very interest and he's doing some thing I think I was to do just for myself like an overhead camera and small mixer. I really liked your summary of his setup at the end. Advice for anyone wanting to take online lesson spend a few dollars and get a stand for your phone or tablet. That way you can get you it at a good height and angle to see your instrument and it is steadier and no shaking. If using a laptop consider getting a small USB camera like Len is using for his overhead. Having a small camera you can move it into a good position easier than moving a laptop around. I have used a USB mic for lessons in past but lately the mic in my iPad has been good enough and saves on plugging more things into my iPad.
    Thanks for the video excellent as always.

      Thanks for your detailed comment. It is possible to set Zoom up for music - go to the audio tab in the settings. I agree latency is an issue with all these kinds of software …. This is more of a problem if you are trying to perform with someone. Teachers can get round the issue by sending out backing tracks for the student.

    I have a question. To run a smooth lesson on zoom, what should be a minimum internet bandwidth speed?

    I want to know what the requirements are for the student not so much the instructor!

    USB condenser Mic can be connected to laptop by using an external USB sound card ? (like Ugreen sound card)

      Hi, no, you need to plug USB mic directly to laptop. It has its own built in soundcard. If you want to combine it with another soundcard, as Len does in this video, then you need to use a software utility such has Loopback

      Hi thanks you very much for your reply and I want to improve the quality of my headset Microphone.
      Can it be done by using "Fantech sound card USB 7.1 ac3002"?

    Are we safe from Audacity spyware if we are using pre 3.0?

    • @MusicRepo
      @MusicRepo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are safe now up to 3.02 and I suspect this will become a non issue once they have sorted out the wording of the privacy policy. You can download and install Audacity without giving out any personal details and use it offline. I’m sure it’s fine … www.musicradar.com/news/audacity-spyware-claims
