I think Shivaji Maharaj was not running an minority empowerment scheme as some of the points of guest suggest. He was just following his Dharma as a king. He was appointing Muslims or Christians to work for him is due to meritocracy not for optics purposes. He gave capital punishment to many who killed cows, if im not wrong.
Don't know why some Hindus have this zeal to show that he was so "secular". He was a proud Dharmik king. 🙏

    • @kevinborse9971
      @kevinborse9971 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@bhnuc meritocracy over religious bias is what secularism actually means. Shivaji maharaj also gave capital punishment to those who disrespected others religion as well. My friend, secularism term just means protection of every religion on the basis of right or wrong, not a bias. During those time, minorities faced the most unjust situation, hence to protect the sense of justice he used to support them totally on the basis of meritocracy not caste bias, but during those times the aristocrats thought this action meant supporting the minorities over the overall subjects. Secularism is a good thing for every religion, you seem to be confused with its definition.

A message for all the Marathas and people of Shivaji Maharaj here :
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj dedicated his whole life building our empire and to save it from foreign powers, so now it's our responsibility to live together and end our internal quarrels and protect our empire or State from declining it's cultural value because of western influence or globalisation. Save our culture and traditions as they teach us a lot about our past & are very important in our life and in fact they are our identity. We should be grateful that a King like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was born on our land and preserve, protect and promote his legacy. Never be ashamed about our culture and tradition.

3- He made his own naval fleet with the help of British and portuguese thats why he was known as "father of navy" and he also starts foreign trade.
4- He gave the message that sometimes if u want to win the war take a step back .
5- He support secularism by appointing 2 muslim naval admirals.

He did not support "secularism" in the sense we understand secularism today. A masjid was erected on top of a temple, he brought down the masjid and reconstructed the temple in its place. One of his Sardar was Sanatani who had been forced to convert to Islam. Shivaji then made sure his Sardar came back in the Sanatani fold.
Point being, he wasn't a racist, terror!st jihad! like Aurangzeb. But was a strong promoter of Hindavi Swaraj. He did not compromise his own ideals/values for appeasement of non Hindu values.

We also need to give credit to the 6th guru of Sikhs , Guru Hargobind sahib ji . Chatrapati Shivaji's Guru was samarth das who met Guru Hargobind sahib ji in Srinagar in 1634 and after he fought battle of Amritsar against mukhlis Khan and Sikhs won that battle , It was an inspiration for samarath das and guru Hargobind sahib ji instructed him to motivate his maratha people to fight against mughals and pick up weapons. Samarath das went back to Maharashtra and spread the word hence shivaji maharaj was born.

Great podcast, and great scholarship by Vaibhav, however Vaibhav should've talked about some of Shahji's achievements as well for context, Shahji was the most powerful general in Ahmadnagar sultanate, he was regent(almost de facto ruler)of Ahmadnagar sultanate for almost a decade (the Sultan wasn't adult)and faced off with Aurangzeb. He learned importance of forts from his fights with Mughals, Shahji later advised Shivaji Maharaj to construct capital at Raigarh fort. Shahji joined Bijapur after Ahmadnagar fell to Mughals, he was awarded Banglore Subha by Bijapur. There he had established great administration, promoted farming and other industries, as a result Banglore become one of the wealthiest province. Shivaji Maharaj implemented similar policies in Maharashtra. Shahji started conducting his Banglore court in Marathi and Sanskrit alongwith Persian. With all this background it's hard to deny Shivaji Maharaj was carrying forward work started by his father and was very successful at it.

Just brilliant dostcast , Vaibhav Sir the outcome of your study is so wholesome and enriching , if anyone wants to learn and be mature in life to live it upfront your study on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj can help him/her in replicating attributes of Maharaj and upgrade as a person to top level , Its surely not easy for common person to get this wholesome perspective and understanding of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj hence your work is remarkable, although thank you is not enough can only say Thank you for right now Vaibhav sir for dadicating part of your life in truly exploring and understanding Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj , no disregards to other historians and persons who studied and wrote about Maharaj but the work of vaibhav sir and this 1.5 hr dostcast made strong impact on me and has given me motivation to look deep into Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj apart from what I know and would definitely read the book , We Maharashtrians Have atmost respect for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj And Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj they have place in our mind and heart right besides god and our parents, having the understanding all aspects of their life can be life changing for anyone because we get to learn alot of things and life lessons to apply in our life ..... We as Indians are extremally fortunate that we have values of Sanatan Dharma , we had Saints and Rulers like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapti Sambhaji Maharaj and of course our freedom fighters ...... _/\_ Thank Youuuu Dostcast for bringing Vaibhav Sir and choosing this topic ..

He did not mention that Ram Singh, son of Mirza Raja Jai Singh had helped Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj escape from prison. Because Jai Singh had promised Shivaji that if he surrendered, he would be treated with respect in the Mughal court. But Aurangzeb did not keep Jai Singh's promise, due to which Jai Singh went against Aurangzeb and ordered his son to help Shivaji.

If you think" chhatrapati " as just a respect to him it isn't, it's much more than that, it is symbol of all the sacrifices for dharma and mother land against adharma , it took so much of him and his mavlas to become Chhatrapati of an empire, it saved our dharma, so it is to add Chhatrapati before his name

Just like how we all say "jay bhavani jay shivaji" the host has also said shivaji because when you are narrating any story you may not always say the word "chhatrapati" i believe i this video the host has not disrespected maharaj at any point... Instead of continuous bashing for changing the title you all should appreciate that he brought this informative topic to all of us for 🆓...as a "maratha" i didn't find this offensive at all and so should you...
I feel where it was to be respected with "chhatrapati " the host has full filled it.....
    Jay bhavani jay shivaji.

23:43 - 28:43 this section have some misconception
Some point are right or some are useless.
    They are some good historian
Like Gajanan mehendale, Babasaheb purandare, Kedar phalke(specialist in reading letter, coeval of that time and translate into political, management, business language ) and my favourite ninad bedekar that only talk on coeval documents.

*1:00:17** Mocha is Port city in Yemen* famous for the 7 coffee seeds brought to India by Baba Budan. These 7seeds went on to become the coffee plantations in Karnataka (Baba Budan Hills) to Tamil Nadu & Kerala.
The ottoman empire prevented the west from accessing land route to India which led them to come quite unhindered and without any tax via sea to India. They used to try to give purple velvet cloth (which hardly held any value in India) and letter from their govt to allow to trade for free. This and their pirate like behaviour infuriated the Zamorin who kicked them off from Kerala and they went to Goa and higher up to Mumbai & Surat.
