Would have been a very nice presentation, but..... that Messermeister's edge is all kinds of wailed on. I could see it from here around 1:00 onward. Needs a reprofiling and a serious sharpen/hone at the very least. Can see nicks and edge-rolls all along the cutting edge. The Shun is infinitely better shape (guessing because you don't use it much cuz she's too purdy? :D ) .... At any rate.... The A.G. is a good idea, but I don't care for the steel used in this version and moreso the following one. For my money your best bet for a camp knife is a very good, thin and tall petty knife, with very basic finish, from a good Japanese bladesmith and then have a very nice sheath made for that. Will perform as good or better than the Shun... in whatever size you prefer.
Believe it or not I use the hell out out all my knives lol I'm going to start doing updates soon and have some newer knives . Trying to get my hands on a rockstead
Thank you for the comparison. It is a real honor to be compared to A.G. He was a true master and a gentleman. Fun Fact: The Shun Elite and Adventure Chef, same designer. Good eye!
hey is that the burlap version? cuz it looks too dark to be the wood handle version from what i've seen on their site or am i wrong? do you know if they have changed the color at all or do the pictures just look lighter than they really are? thanks
@@dastreetz1546 . I'm pretty sure it's the same they only had two options when I got the knife to burlap or the wood unless they updated the wood cuz now looking at it it does look a little different shade of type of wood but I was going to update the scales and throw some custom ones on
Any comments on the Messermeister steel? "German steel" isn't a metallurgical specification. I don't care where it's made but there's no mention of steel type, maintenance, or blade angle on the blade or in the box.Nice feel to it but dull for an alleged 15 degree blade. Very heavy for camping. Who is the target buyer? I received it as a gift so I will keep it and smile gratefully.
It is made in China. That I know I spoke to their rep and didn't have any specs on it. More than likely because they're out sourced. I'm trying to find the sarge foodie but the Italian made one not the china made to revue.

Oh and the one I beat the shit out was the messer. Not messermeister lol I was just using it for size comparison. But much appreciated.
Wish you showed the open close mechanism specifically or maybe I missed it
Thanks for this. It was great to see the three knives laid out. I'm thinking AG Russel for backpacking, MesserMeister for the van kitchen.
Nice review. I havent found any reviews on either of these.
I have A G Russell and looking to get the MesserMeister one.
I wish I could find the first generation of the A.G. Russell for sale anywhere, the 2nd looks much thicker
It is sometimes listed as the AG Russell Hocho on ebay. Haven't seen one for awhile.

I did not know that I look into those. I'm currently making a micro or nano edc kit for daily kitchen work.stay tubed
A.G. Russell used to have a larger series 1
That's awesome to hear! What was the blade length?
@@andrewpileggi479 i think it was 6".
Sorry for the delay in reply...these popped up on gmail, which I seldom check

It's just a word the burlap was sold out when I was trying to get it 😂
Still really nice and holding up I do like it though even though I would have preferred the burlap
@@andrewpileggi479 thanks so it is the same wood version thats on their site its just darker in real life?

I love my ag Russell folding hocho. I have 2 in brand new condition.
Nice comparison.

I'd say it's a great novelty gift. I always keep going back to my ag Russell. Not saying I don't love it. It's a great 1st run trial.
Nice knife, but not pocketable like the Russell Hocho. If I have to carry it in a seperate bag I may as well bring my chef roll.
