I'm just discovering Gary Numan. Found him two days ago and am just absolutely obsessed. His music is like a drug that I can't get enough of. Why didn't I find this years ago?
I see there's a few new Numan supporters here which I'm very glad about. I'm old enough to have been a fan from his first album but he has never been fully recognised for his tremendous contribution to contemporary music IMO. Branded a one hit wonder in makeup - who's laughing now? 35 plus years on - he's delivering his finest. Go Gary!
It's true. I wrote Numan off for years as being an 80s New Wave act but his sound entirely ended up filling the NIN void. I can't believe it took me this many years to figure that out, given I know way way way more niche groups.
I discovered Gary Numan in the 80's like most people. Was clued into his amazing continuing music in the 90's by an art director on a movie I worked on. He played "Dark" for me. I was shocked how good Gary Numan had gotten. He's one of the very best musical artists I think. Gary Numan's getting better as he get's older... and wiser...
Coolest thing is, he said in an interview that he really knows fuck-all about music. Said what he does is record sounds externally, such as.. SHit i dont know. ANYTHING, then runs whatever weird sounds he's recorded out in the world through synths and stuff, and just kinda works his way from there. If that's true, the man's a GENIUS. Basically just farting around. And farting gold, pretty much every time. That's amazing.
Gary Numan is WITHOUT QUESTION the reason that Skinny Puppy, N.I.N. and every other synth band exists. I recommend you get a copy of "URGH a misic war" and witness a performance like no other He performs the epic "Down in The Park" which foretold the drone era 35 yrs. prior to it's existence.
+Timothy Madden Hiya, He was early in the scene of synth/industrial music, but definitely not the reason behind it look up Throbbing Grisle their the band that started industrial as a genre.
I found a vhs copy of "Ugh! A Music War" in a bargain bin in a mall in Florida. I bought it on a whim. I was 12 at the time(40 now). I've been hooked on Gary ever since. excellent movie!!
+Timothy Madden Synth pop started with Kraftwerk in 1970. Industrial started with industrial records in the mid 70's. In the late 70's early 80's New Wave started using elements of synth pop. Which is when Numan came out.
In one interview he said that he changed his way to do music after hearing depeche mode record songs of faith and devotion, and also being influenced by NIN, at the same time Trent from NIN told that in the begining he was influenced by Gary....
Wow, I'm speechless, this song is "Beyond Cool". I was a young teen when Gary broke onto the scene more than 30 years ago. Last night, I thought I'd check out his stuff and never expected in my wildest dream to find such amazing and modern material. Talk about someone still in top form and on top of everything. Well done Gary, keep that spirit alive.
He started off playing guitar, before he got into synths... But even "Are Friends Electric" featured guitars. He's just incorporated them in different, and contemporary, ways.
Gary hasn't in my opinion put a foot wrong since and including the Sacrifice album in 94 Jagged was no exception...the man is quite simply a musical genius (though he doesn't know it).
This is probably the first song I've heard from the gothic Gary Numan. Definitely my first song from him in general was Cars. Still one of my most favourites by him!
I absolutely love Gary Numan music. I'm 64 & saw a lot of bands back then and this is as good as any of the 60's, 70's and 80's music. (Mostly went to shit after 1989).
I saw jagged live, there were some songs in there which were not my cup of tea, but when he did "Haunted" and "Pressure" it was the best performance I've ever seen, I will never see another act, do this to my tear ducts ever again. The 80's new wave sounds which had been meticulously sampled, layed over again and again, was just sick! Out of all the outboard I own, I could never replicate those sounds! He has more Akai Samplers going than you can poke a stick at...it's pure beauty....Gary I pine for your intellect, but I'm lost in an age were all synthesis is brought to you on a silver plate!
I've seen Mr. Numan play this live twice now...amazing! If you have a chance to see one of his live shows, GO! He is a true professional, incredible musician, really a nice guy and flies some mean machines too.
I'm old enough to remember Gary from the 80s. I gave his music not even a vague passing thought since..until recently when I started to hear some of the post-80s music. It is absolutely brilliant. I went and saw him last year in a club, maybe a few hundred people and it became a top-10 show of my life. I'm astounded that he's creating such evocative music.
Velda Strauss Glad you found his stuff. A performer's performer, and his vocals have always been that of a storyteller's. I enjoy how it seems that he's always pushed his music into a "what's next?" kind of M.O. He might dress like he's about to be embalmed, but I swear that boy is a closet optimist whether he likes it or not.
GARY NUMAN IS A TRUE GENIUS, I GREW UP WITH HIS MUSIC, EVERY ALBUM EVERY SONG IS A MASTERPIECE FROM A 'GOD OF INDUSTRIAL SOUND' ! HIS DAUGHTERS AND HIS WIFE ARE ABSOLUTELY PERFECT AND BEAUTIFUL TOO !
Gary Numan - your songs have been sweet lullabies to my darkness for so so many years. I will always love you and your music. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
listening on way to work..can't believe there are those out there who don't realise how awesome this is. memories of the 3 dayer at Kentish town...AMAZING!!
I love the Industrial/Nine Inch Nails sound to this album. Gary was an inspiration for Trent, and years later, who knew Trent would be an inspiration for Gary. Bloody awesome.
I.L.M.P.... i agree, wouldn't it be great if he was given something like a life time contribution to music award. he's worked continuously since the late '70s & deserves recognistion.
I love this. I'm an old Numanoid from age 8. This song really brings back the old angst. Beautiful. I have my tickets for next week. I'm so geeked. BTW. OBVIOUSLY Numan influenced NIN...and Korn, and a million other bands. Anyone with doubts should listen to "The Pleasure Principal " album. Then there will be no debate.
you think about it in the 80s,, so many bands one hit wonders and with gary you figure it would have been the same after a couple albums, but look today,, hes moved with the times, still banging out epic music, shows how brilliant he is ,, a true artist that makes everything he does work so well,,,,
Ever since I heard Gary numan back in 1979 ive followed him from tubeway army to now 4th August 2020 absolutely love this track and halo infact the whole cd awesome 100 per cent
I understand all the pain, i feel like this too, in the school people always told me "Keep it down, be quiet, don't talk so much", but i can't. When i'm happy i am me to my fullest, no matter how much i talk, i'm always me! At my last previous high school, i tried to be someone else, someone who don't talk as much and don't "stim", but that weren't me, so i got all depressed. Now, i know everything isn't my fault. I'm sopposed to be like this, this song made my day! Autism Awareness!
This song is like a Priest doing really Creepy-Things and, saying to himself:"The Lord Wills it",and then, somehow he/she realizes that his/her proclivities takes him further and further away from Divinity Approval, yet, still not willing to stop his/her behaviour....
Gary is an amazing independent artist ...his music is from the heart ....he's a pioneer and a genius in his own right. Love his music and is an inspiration to me as an artist and as a person.
been listenin to numan a long time, since he first started recordin ...longer than some of ya been alive lol...my favorite always been down in the park...that or cars
I'm just discovering Gary Numan. Found him two days ago and am just absolutely obsessed. His music is like a drug that I can't get enough of. Why didn't I find this years ago?
Don't torture yourself for missing out, just enjoy it now.
I'm right with you, and I grew up in the 80's. Its like finding out there is a 51st state and its right next door.
It's like finding my sister's penis.
LOL!!! You made me spit my Coke out!
same to me !! Am askin myself how coudnt know him before !
I see there's a few new Numan supporters here which I'm very glad about. Agreed my man
Semi-silently rocking blocks off in the background for years, now back in the limelight again, knocking out some of his best work, agreed!
Indeed
(1979 here)
One of the rare artists who got HEAVIER with time - lol
It's true. I wrote Numan off for years as being an 80s New Wave act but his sound entirely ended up filling the NIN void. I can't believe it took me this many years to figure that out, given I know way way way more niche groups.
@@BlazingOwnager \Trent Reznor plays tamborine for Gary Numan believe iy or not. Gary was his influence!!
😂😂😂😂
@@jodyclark7527 Ha! Wow!
I loved him in the eighties, but this ...this is magic.
His comeback is just phenomenal

Great album Jagged. Sooo good live 🎶 🎤 🎹 🎸 🎶

He just gets more and more badass every day!
He really has! Now his daughter sings with him. He looks great!
@@4EverGoth I know it's so wonderful 😊 and yes he does, hasn't aged a day!
Gary Numan is WITHOUT QUESTION

Urgh is easily one of the best films of that era, love it!
Skinny Puppy are from 84. They are pretty old and edgy US band man. To me its like saying Gary invented the synthesizer.
In one interview he said that he changed his way to do music after hearing depeche mode record songs of faith and devotion, and also being influenced by NIN, at the same time Trent from NIN told that in the begining he was influenced by Gary....
And I'm influenced by both Trent and Gary! This type of music is literally my heartbeat!
It all comes full circle huh?
Also Bowie with Hearts filthy lesson
Wow, I'm speechless, this song is "Beyond Cool". I was a young teen when Gary broke onto the scene more than 30 years ago. huge influence musically for me,since the 80s.love how we added guitar later in his carreer, without sacrificing that great ethereal Numan sound.
He started off playing guitar, before he got into synths... But even "Are Friends Electric" featured guitars. He's just incorporated them in different, and contemporary, ways.
Dark, eerie and heavy....but full of heart!!!!!!!!
......ABSOLUTELY...............I......,
DARK, EERIE,AND MOST OF ALL...................."HEAVY"!!!!!!!!!!!!
That chorus is such a powerful hook.
I bought his newest CD splinter and I love every fucking song on that disc, been a Gary Numan fan since around 1978
Gary hasn't in my opinion put a foot wrong since and including the Sacrifice album in 94 Jagged was no exception...the man is quite simply a musical genius (though he doesn't know it).
Really amazing stuff. Dark dark dark. Stumbled on this while listening to his older stuff. Gary really paved the way and now reinventing himself.
Massive Synth Sounds! LOVE IT !!!
I love it too. I love that sound, another dimension made of sound.
what a truly incredible talent...stunning...his songs could make tears come to your eyes, easily...absolutely beautiful.
Been listening hard to this guy since the mid 90s.
The chorus of the song came up, and I just smiled. For a moment--and I'm not lying when I say this--my life felt complete. Mission accomplished.
hptriogal Bingo.
what a belting track....hes still got it!!!
This is the track which got me back into his current range of music. Classic Numan. A must on anyone's playlist.
This is probably the first song I've heard from the gothic Gary Numan. Definitely my first song from him in general was Cars.
Still one of my most favourites by him!
It's amazing to me..40 years on...his music is still so prolifik
I feel like this song would really fit some type of actiony Gothic movie where everyone wears leather and never runs out of ammo
Type ‘Gary Numan Batman Haunted’ into the you-tube search engine and watch magic appear.
Like Underworld yuss
Well said
There's a really good video titled stab of hunger and its a tribute to silence of the lambs and hannibal it works very well :)
The Crow comes to mind.
He was never gone. He's just ahead of this timeline. And those who love his music are too.

Very simplistic music, but also, original and highly complex style, of his genre, probably the best,
I've seen Mr. Numan play this live twice now...amazing! If you have a chance to see one of his live shows, GO! He is a true professional, incredible musician, really a nice guy and flies some mean machines too.

Gary numan est parmi les grand artistes du 20 siècle , merci mon ami pour le partage .
Another top 'anthem' by the genius that is GARY NUMAN !!! love it !!!
Bit like LZ Kashmir intro. New for me the more metal Numan. Gone out of my radar since the early 80's. Back listening, excellent creative artist.
like depeche mode
Way, way, way better than most artists trying to do the whole industrial/rock thing.
Gary Numan is immortal.................
Loved Gary since the late seventies
The chorus to this is euphoric.

Lol 😂 👍
I learned a lot from this man in my own music making. Big difference is I'm a bloody amateur, he's a genius.
