- Vladimir Korneev is the new artist in residence of the Kurt Weill Fest in Dessau in March 2020. He honors Kurt Weill’s life’s work with his new show "YOUKALI" - named after the song Kurt Weill wrote in exile about an utopian land where everyone is respected, loved and welcome.
This video clip was filmed during Vladimir Korneev's rehearsals for his upcoming show "YOUKALI", which he will also present from the 11. March - 26. March at the high renowned german chanson theatre "Bar Jeder Vernunft" in Berlin.
Despite of huge successes like The Threepenny Opera, the work of Jewish composer Kurt Weill, who was born 1900 in Dessau and who matured to become an artist in Berlin's 1920s, has been forbidden by the the Nazis in 1933. Kurt Weill had to flee over Paris to New York and revolutionized the musical theatre on Broadway with pieces that were also filmed in Hollywood. Until his death in 1950 his artistic work was dedicated to the complete fusion of text, scene and music.

Just discovering Vladimir now and, my goodness, this is almost perfect. Great tone, solid chest voice, fantastic head voice, resonant timbre, relaxed jaw and neck. An artist who knows and respects his instrument, has loads of talent backed up with training and hard work, and, because of that, makes beautiful music.

Sublime en français.Heartbreaking in English. To me, the best interpreter of this song ever, as though he were the only one who has really understood the meaning of the lyrics. We may think that the song is meant for a lady but this sounds to be a wrong idea perhaps. Vladimir Korneev sings this song with an extreme and constantly growing sensitivity, I much appreciate the crescendo of his rich and warm and deep voice. And then, all of a sudden, towards the end of the song, when he realizes that all our hopes for love and truth, that all our dreams are vain, he is to me the only one who renders a high degree of deceit and anger at the idea that Youkali does not exist at all, which is the real drama of this song. Congratulations to the artist.

Haben gestern ihren Auftritt bei #WeillDigital aus dem Bauhaus Dessau gesehen, einfach grandios vom Anfang bis zum Ende.
Lauschten teilweise mit Tränen in den Augenwinkeln ihrem Gesang und den wunderbaren Arrangements.
Im Theater Dessau hätten wir sicher wunde Hände vom Klatschen gehabt schon vor endlosen Stehenden Ovationen.
Kurt Weill auf völlig neuem Level...

J'pensai pas qu'un homme puisse la chanter
C'est drôle, j'avais en peu la même idée. Et en fait, sa voix d'homme exprime à merveille la déception et le désespoir de la prise de conscience que Youkali n'existe pas. Il y a une gravité dans cette découverte qu'une voix de femmes ne rend pas nécessairement. Pour moi, c'est une interprétation rare et précieuse qui rend justice au texte, qui comprend le texte. Bravo à l'artiste.

Прекрасная музыка. Впервые услышала полчаса назад по телевизору, когда передавали концерт оркестра парижской оперы под рук. венесуэльского дирижера. Там этот романс исполняли 6 оперных певцоов. Но и это исполнение превосходное. Спасибо
