Thank for watching and the comment I appreciate it. Nice job on the first comment. I'm going to work hard on the weight loss so we will have to see how it goes 😳
Looks like we are on similar journeys. I am glad the TH-cam algorithm helped me find your channel. If I survive my first 70.3 Ironman in July, the Leeds Full might be next on my list as I live so close. But I am old, so it might be a pipe dream. I will be watching. Good luck!
To be fair the grub at the start had me thinking, please take me next time you go 🤣🤣 Sounds like you've got it all in hand. Advice with weight is always a bit touchy and doesn't always land well. Currently fighting off my binge eating urges having just a week off work. Everything from here is improvement so I'm excited to see how you get on pal 💪
I've lost weight loads of times. Like you, I also gain it back and it's been that way for about 20 years. At present I'm overweight. I weigh nearly the same as you and I'm 5ft 7inches. I treat each day in isolation. I try not to obsess over a bad day yesterday or next week. I just think of today. I also increase movement. I don't mean training. I mean step count and general activity. I have a desk job at home and can if I wanted just sit here all day and do about 500 steps. Intermittent fasting really helps me. I eat from about 1pm to 8pm. Focus on protein too. Breakfast I may have 4 eggs and a protein shake. Or a big bowl of chicken with a very small amount of rice. Vegetables are great as most are extremely low calorie but a lot of density. Reducing portions or altering a meal can really help. For example if I love a burger I'll have just the beef part (at home I mean). Or if Im having potatoes with something, rather than having 300 as I usually do, I'll really be strict and have maybe 3 or something. I'm tempted to start using mounjaro. It's an NHS approved drug which is focussed on weight loss (and diabetes). Many say it's hugely effective as it controls your blood sugar levels and stops the "food noise".
It sounds like we are very similar. I have a desk job now so that never helps, especially with all my office mates bringing in snacks all the time. I've just gotta make some small changes to see some improvements. I'm looking forward to working on it and seeing where we get before race day. Hope your keeping well dude 👌
Good to draw a line and mentally reset✊Not sure what your work dynamic is but if you can bag an early morning bike spin with just a coffee prior (or water, electrolyte, depending on your caffeine intake needs) that fasted low intensity spin will kickstart the metabolism. Then small meals often throughout the day. When you first feel a hunger pang drink a nice dose of water before reaching for the snacks. Also have an evening stop eat time! After a set time no eating - only drinks! Sometimes, depending on what training you’ve done an evening protein drink can be good instead of reaching for snacks when the training volume and intensity builds. Onwards and upwards! SBR 🙌 go go go!
You lost me at early morning 🤣🤣 But some great tips, really appreciate it. Lots of little changes and hopefully I start to see some changes after some consistency 🤞
Can we enter a ballot to be your carry on luggage for your next trip? Food looked banging! Glad you had a great trip. Best of luck with the fat loss. Portion control, upped my walking to keep active, staying hydrated, and trying to get enough sleep have all helped me with weight loss in the past. Running/walking fasted has always helped too. Let me know if you want to borrow any cook books for recipe ideas. That can be half the battle.
You don't need to be in a ballot. Everyone is welcome. The more the merrier and all that. Although Iowa isn't most people's choice for a holiday destination 🤣🤣
It’s tough going Stu when the weight sneaks back on, you can do it mate💪🏻. A little tip, start the day with a glass of water first thing in the morning as it kick starts the metabolism. Also, increase your protein intake, maybe 1-2 protein shakes a day. Protein is difficult to break down and your digestive system has to work hard to break down. Your core temp increases and you actually burn an extra 200 calories a day from the effort to digest the protein. Best of luck with the training mate👍🏻
The joys of getting older 🙈🤣 Thanks for the tips. Il have to try the early morning water thing. Interesting you talk about the protein. Jennas nutritionist has advised her to start on that so looks like it should be something I should be doing also 🤔 I've got a lot to learn.
Tell me about it, just about to turn 45 and everything aches. Increasing your protein gives you the feeling of fullness so you don’t have the urge to snack, repairs muscle fibres and will help burn more calories. Multiple benefits.
Sounds like a good plan , I suffer with my weight , the lightest I’ve been is 9 stone , 4 year ago I was 15 stone depressed and inactive, so I started running again and did some HIIT training, made adjustments to my diet ,and got to 10 stone , held that for about 3years , but this year I become a carb craving monster so up to 11 stone , I eat mainly through boardem from my job on night shift ,so I’m starting to cut or swap out certain foods or rubbish, for carrots 🥕, celery and beetroot. I still some treats but not as much as before , and as for pop I got a soda stream and take one drink to work with me . Must admit I do drink a lot of water don’t do tea or coffee. Good luck and I’m a sucker for good fish and chips too
I don't think we can be friends if you don't drink coffee 🤣🤣 I'm with you, I do tend to eat when I'm bored so that doesn't help. It's finding that balance isn't it 🤔
I love the breakfasts in the US…don’t blame you for going all out 😂 I think those things you’ve mentioned will definitely help if you are consistent Stu! I know you don’t want to be obsessive but you could have a look for a calorie calculator online and roughly work out a calorie amount you should be eating per day, don’t obsess over it but just keep it in the back of your mind as a measure. On the drinks, obviously up your water etc but I switched to decaf coffee and Coke Zero and they are actually all good!
Yeh I love a US breakfast. Especially pancakes. My favourite with maple syrup 😍 I have moved to decaf coffee in the afternoon and I've noticed I don't have that crash after work. Let's see how it all goes. Once I up the training it always helps 💪
Good luck on the weight loss journey mate. Ive been saying for a while that i think the best thing i could do for my running game would be to lose weight and get to what i should be weighing. Im also about 6ft and 91kg ish at the moment. Maybe if i chop a leg off...
Yeh I did wonder about chopping a body part of to lose some weight 🤣🤣 My trouble is I enjoy putting the weight on 🙈 It's a long term project so not expecting to see big results until the start of next season. Just gotta put the hard graft in now 👌
I totally relate to this……for me understanding calorie requirement and tracking it is for weight loss and training is for fitness. Although at 220lb’s I talk a good game!!
Mate, we've got this. We looked like two graceful dolphins in the pool the other night 🤣🤣 We are on the same path and I'm sure will be both ready for those race days next year. There is along way to go but we got this 👊
It's gotta be simple, I'm a simple man. I think people make things to complicated and then they never follow through with it. This way I should be able to get the basics right 👊👌
Summer is hard to 🤣🤣 Yep ive got 2 weeks to cross country so I better start doing some running 🤣🤣 It's not going to be my best race but I gotta start somewhere right 🤔
I think as we all get older it's easy to put extra weight on. I on the same path this week as I've definitely put some weight on this year. Like you I'm just trying to eat healthy and save the snacks and treats for race days. I need to drink more water!! Great insight and nice that you share the struggles and not just the fun races.
Oh yeh definitely. When I was younger I never had to worry about weight but the older I get the worse it gets 🤣🤣 I'd rather try and sort it before I put to much on 🙈 It doesn't help that I enjoy my food 👌 Being a bit lighter will always help me on the bike 👍
You can't beat a chippy tea hahahaha. I'm chasing fat loss myself at the minute, i log my food on My fitness pal (when i remember) i used to be religiously staunch with iy, but then fell off the wagon. I'm doing a series myself on TH-cam called Fitter in 4 weeks, Im trying to beat my Parkrun PB on Christmas day at Sutton Park Parkrun, whilst aiming for sub 27 minutes, which will mean ive knocked off at least 30 seconds or so roughly.
Agreed, you can't beat a chippy tea. I've only ever ran Sutton park once and that was on new years day. I remember a bit of a killer hill somewhere in the middle 🤔
@@SwimBikeRunStu The course changed last year, there is now a killer hill at the end. I remember getting to that hill and thinking FML this is just cruel. 😂I actually managed to set my PB at Sutton Whilst vlogging and whilst interviewing people for their run report video.
I find it hard to lose weight as I train for my first Ironman (2025 Swansea) or train for my past marathon and ultra. Even with currently being consistently working out in Zone 2 for the last three months, there has been no weight loss. Major increase in body confidence but no movement on the scales. Weird!
Binging Chocolate and other sweet treats are my crux! I'm interested to know how you know what your weight 'should' be? I've been trying to work this out myself. I'm 6ft 4 so my BMI seems to naturally be 'overweight'. So I find this all very confusing
Yeh I agree it is always super confusing. When I weigh myself at the doctors it always says I'm obese even at my fittest 🤔 so I've got no clue. I just don't feel great at this weight so I just try to drop a bit until I feel better. I'm always going to be a heavier bloke. And I'm alright with that as long as I'm healthy.
We didn't make you fatter! We made you stronger! How tall are you? I just found out I'm prediabetic. So I'm cutting out sugar and eating over all healthier. What I like to do is set my calorie deficit for 2lbs a week. I never hit the 2lb mark, but since I have that number in my head I rarely go past the 1 or .5lb mark per week.
America didn't make me fatter. My own choices made me fatter. I could have chosen healthy food but I was on my holiday and we wanted to enjoy it. I can work on the healthy aspect now I'm home. That's an interesting weight loss tactics, hope you get on top of that. Hope your keeping well.
Wow what an hour 6am here in the UK and I get to be the first one to comment ..over the moon. Good luck on the weight loss

Glad we could connect and thanks for watching. You are never to old. I'm just a middle aged man just giving it a go and having fun 👌
Haven’t watched the video yet, but we are cracking up over the thumbnail. Epic 😂
I thought I would try something a bit different 🤔😅

Thanks. Yeh, loosing weight for me is tough. But if I can drop a little it will make it easier to get up those climbs at ironman leeds 🙈
