My heart soared when I saw this request. Icehouse was my first ever concert at 13 yrs old. Have seen them 8 times now and never disappoint. Saw them in February this year and Michael Paynter did a lot of the vocals as Iva Davies was recovering from covid. Such an amazing vocal range Michael has. The actual video for Man of Colours was released in the 80’S and it featured Iva Davies’s father playing the old man in his worn out shoes shuffling around an attic with his paints and brushes ❤️
I've heard several songs by Michael Paynter and I love his voice. "Man of Colors" is a beautiful song and you gave once again a great interpretation of the lyrics. I was sure you would like this one. 🙂
Awww.... CLASSIC I C E H O U S E! this song, it always put me in a special state of mind and heart. 💗 I've never heard it performed with this singer.... I think I prefer the original version, but it is still beautiful, captivating and bittersweet.
Fil, yeah, Michael has a beautiful voice. Great technique and control. I t think Michal has many colours to his palette. Beautiful. #QcumberSquad #MichaelPaaynyer #Icehouse - Fil, I'm off back to the study.
In the official video, you see Iva Davies father painting. He was an old man then. Iva wrote the song, is on stage here, he's an old guy here, plays the oboe in the video. He has very blue eyes and had rhe besr ever curly mullet in the 80's. The ice house was a flat the band lived in or visited to jam in the early years, theur original name flowers was already taken.
I've watched quite a lot of your reactions over the years. This one was enjoyable and insightful and just a little more focussed on the lyrics than what i have seen in the past. Great Stuff!
I love this song and this performance. I had read somewhere that this was inspired by the Famous artist 'Vincent Van Gogh' the lyrics make sense when you consider this. However I may be wrong. Michael's vocal range is extraordinary too. He should have been more appreciated and gone so much further....but then here in Australia we had/have a music industry still heavily into international singers .... much to their shame. One only has to look at John Farnham driven to darkest depression because they refused to play his music.
Hey great job getting into the lyrics..its a wonderful song. Inlike the original better even though Michael is a great singer. I just like synths versus acoustic. Amazing song though . Icehouse is great.
NO,NO,NO,NO. This song is autobiographical. Its about a relationship with a woman he was engaged to at the time. He says, QUOTE : I was still wearing my dressing gown in a Sydney flat waiting for my songwriting partner at the time (guitarist Robert Kretschmer) to arrive from Melbourne. While I was still in the shower, the idea came to me. It was as if it existed in a parallel universe. It was as if a wormhole opened and it just arrived complete in my lap. It was influenced by my relationship with a woman I was engaged to at the time. She was my hindsight, my muse. And throughout that period she was completely unaware that she had anything to do with my songs, and yet, in almost all of them, she was kind of the starting place. UNQUOTE
Actually, try listening to the original brill and not have a conversation with yourself about what to do with what you are saying you don't get it! At ALL

I prefer the original - it was more heartfelt and softer ... less about the singer, more about the song.
This was already a beautiful song by an iconic band, and Michael's stunning vocals suits it perfectly.
Icehouse featuring Michael Paynter!

The song was inspired by the bands lead singer, Iva Davie’s, late
Father. His dad was an artist/painter❤
