      Great suggestion! That’s a whole video unto itself. Just don’t come on the weekend. That’s my local grocery store and the place is swamped, there’s always a bottleneck next to “The big cheese,” that’s horrendous to navigate. Early during the week is best for filming and browsing.

    I live in Las Vegas now but grew up in Cincinnati. I LOVE Skyline. You picked the best one to go to. The Ludlow location is the best. My undergrad school was the University of Cincinnati, and I used to go there for lunch at least 3 times a week. Skyline is based on a Greek pub dish, by the way, and was invented by a couple of Greek immigrants. Chili is a bit of a misnomer. It's more of a sauce. Also, you don't twirl it like Italian spaghetti. You cut it with your fork and the oyster crackers go into the dish to soak up the extra chili.

      😆 spoken like a true Cincinnatian ! I agree, the Ludlow location is the BEST ! You definitely cut your way from one end of the plate to the other with the fork. You'll never run out of cheese ! ❤love my SKYLINE ! I've heard Eli's BBQ is good, but I've never been there. It's on my list, though.

    Back in the late 1980s I was with a friend in Cairo, Egypt (we were working in the travel business at the time). We had some time off and were walking around since she'd lived there some years earlier and knew her way around. Anyway, we spied a Mexican restaurant, of all things. Decided to eat there. Whatever we ordered looked like a typical Tex-Mex dish. But it tasted like something that someone cooked who was shown a picture of "Mexican food" but did not have a recipe and had no clue of what it was supposed to taste like. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't even remotely Mexican, Tex-Mex, Cal-Mex, southwestern, or anything that would be cooked in the western hemisphere and passed off as "Mexican."
    That is what Cincinnati chili tastes like.
    You two are too nice and thanks for another fun video!

    • @debdeb299
      @debdeb299 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! My husband loves Skyline and I just don’t get it. Opening the container, all I can smell is cinnamon and whatever thickener they use creates a muddy texture. The pasta, chili, cheese combo looks like a someone plucked leftovers from the refrigerator, thinking “why not?”
      Bill and Lisa are too nice. Nothing wrong with occasionally admitting you don’t like something.

    I was born and raised in Cincinnati although I've now been in L.A. for years. I would submit I've never seen anyone who tries Skyline for the first time of whom is really totally hooked. It's usually about the third visit the addiction kicks in. I have a friend from upstate New York who made it through three tries and now he plans a yearly vacation to Cincinnati just for the chili. Also for those unfamiliar the cheese appears much heavier than it is (although it's a tad strong) as it's grated angel hair thin. Lot's of air in that pile and the idea is it melts down quickly as you go. If that was supermarket grated cheddar it'd be massive over-kill., it's not.

    You can make a Cincinnati-style chili at home. There are a number of recipes floating around. Someone cracked the code on the spices (cumin, cinnamon, allspice, red pepper, chili powder, cloves, bay leaf, bitter chocolate). Also involves simmering the ground beef for hours so it gets finely textured.

      When you cut the chili with your fork and keep the layers, you don’t run out of cheese at the end. 😊 Fun channel.

      @@knowyourhistory Great idea! I use the seasoning and make the chili at home. Generally, I use 3 lbs. beef and 4 seasoning packets. Cook it down much thicker than they do at Skyline. Freeze the leftovers in 1 lb. containers for later.
      The lasagna idea is great, but, you'll still need to top it with a mound of finely shredded (I prefer colby) cheese. Otherwise it just wouldn't be right.
