I don’t know if this your longest vid so far, but I appreciated that you were able to go into the topic with a little more depth than a shorter vid would have allowed. Not saying they should all be 20+ minutes, but I’m personally happy to watch something longer if there’s an angle to the story that you really want to sink your teeth into!
Hey! I’d say the average length is somewhere in the 12-15 minute range, but yeah sometimes there is a particular topic that really interests me and I end up going on longer than usual. I’m glad you liked the longer vid though! I thought the whole 90’s alien craze was definitely interesting!
I personally subscribed to your channel a couple of weeks ago, but I also felt a real intellectual jolt of interest when I realized that you had positive remarks to make about a book I had read and enjoyed when it first came out a million years ago, but which I can recall a lot of negativity directed at it from critics and regular people alike; in fact, I couldn't resist going to Amazon to get a copy of Tommyknockers to see how I will feel about it when I reread it. Alas, the series you are commenting on above I also disliked or at least have largely forgotten, however I still remember the scene where the Traci Lords character disintegrates two state troopers(I think) because it made me think about what would happen if we earthlings somehow came into possession of ultra-deadly alien technology. I mean, what could go wrong, right. :)
Hey John! It wasn’t until after I had read the novel the second time that I came to understand it was a more divisive King book. I was honestly surprised! I had genuinely enjoyed it and thought it was a great read! As for the tv miniseries, well I completely understand why it was largely disliked. And yes, Traci disintegrates two cops with her lipstick laser, and the special FX are perhaps not so special.
Mr. D I cant put my finger on it but I have a feeling you didn't care for this one lol. I have to say I like this miniseries or I did when I last watched it at about 10 years old or so lol. I really like the deep dive you done in this one it was really cool to hear how everything changed focus from aliens to other things. Awesome video as always buddy have a good one Ill catch you next time. Oh and just curious if you had to pick one of the 90s alien movies what would it be? I would have to go with the faculty.
😂You could tell I wasn’t into this one, huh? What gave it away?! I hadn’t initially realized that there had been such an increase of alien themed media on the 90’s or why, so it was pretty interesting to read about all that! As for my fav 90’s alien movie… I’d have to go with Fire in the Sky, although it has been a while since I’ve watched it so it likely isn’t as good as I remember. It was the scenes of the aliens experimenting on the lead character that were just so intense and scary to me back in the day. It left an impression. The Faculty was definitely an enjoyable one though!
It should've been more watchable than it was. I didn't see it until about five years ago, and I'm trying to remember if I made it all the way through or not.
Yeah it wasn’t well executed for the most part. Honestly, I feel that they could’ve done a much better job had they not encountered so many hurdles along the way.
I actually thought Marg Helgenberger did a good job in it to be fair! Considering it was a disaster Bobbi was my favorite character, and I thought she did a good job. Robert Carradine as well :)
@@agreatundertaking Well I'm glad you agree! I do agree with everything else wrong with it to be fair though. Wish it could have been better, and there some of King's most ambitious ideas in that story! That's for sure :)
You probably got the wrong Alien hat/mask because of human error. If you bought it via Amazon, they most likely had human pickers who have to walk to a bin of stuff, and pick out the item. Sometimes they pick out the wrong item. I was just talking to my nephew about Amazon pickers this morning, and how some Amazons are now using robots to do it. I went on to discuss how my job as a software developer could be replaced by AI in the future.
What a great video. lol. Terrible miniseries. Even as a kid watching it on tv I knew that. TV Guide had a whole article that got me super pumped for it and then…yeah. Really enjoyed your exploration of the 90’s alien zeitgeist. As I like to say, “back in my day conspiracy nuts were cool.” (Makes me sound ancient). But the x files were truly must watch tv comparable to GoT or Lost in the more modern era. And not trusting the govt was just…common sense? Anyway, have a fantastic week Mr Doyle and hoping you do Dark Half next. Or something you really love to wash Tommyknockers TV out of your mouth. 😉
Good morning, Paul! Ugh yeah it’s terrible. TV Guide was definitely compensated for that lie of an article. 😂 Yes, X Files was such a huge part of the culture in it’s day. Fortunately, distrust in govt is thriving again, and we didn’t even need a specific tv show to drive that sentiment! ….hooray?! Yes the next vid will indeed be about The Dark Half! I was having a hard time remembering the order of things, but I just laid out my release calendar for the next year so I can keep things straight. Hard to believe that after The Dark Half I’m starting in on the 90’s novels! Thanks for sticking around and commenting, Paul! Have a great week!
Network television is just a poor medium for Kings work. There is no choice but to water it down to something unrecognizable. Time constraints in mainstream cinema also take away from the vivid details that his make his stories stand out. I think our best hope for good or ill is streaming services. They can do 12 episodes with all the gore, humanity and even unnecessary sex scenes. Heard the Duffer bro's may do "the talisman". Fingers crossed!
Absolutely agreed. Limited Series is the only way to go with a King novel. Of course, they don’t always get it right with those either, but at least the time and content constraints are considerably more amenable to doing justice to the original.
I dont know I kinda liked the miniseries. I know it sucks but I watched it a lot as a kid. I didn't get to see it when it first came out but I watched it later and always liked it for what it was.
@A Great UndertaKING yeah that's true. I like a lot of stephen king miniseries that aren't that good cause I watched them when I was younger. Like the langoliers and shining miniseries. I think I was 5 when I first watch tommyknockers so that probably explains a lot.
I don’t know if this your longest vid so far, but I appreciated that you were able to go into the topic with a little more depth than a shorter vid would have allowed.

A Rubber Band a Coconut and a Live Salmon. How very Tommyknockers that would have been.
I should try it… though I hadn’t initially considered the potential complications of handling a live salmon.

I have only heard about the tommyknockers miniseries never watched it

Ya know, the performances were predominantly not to blame for the quality of the mini series. Def not all bad!
@@agreatundertaking Well I'm glad you agree! I do agree with everything else wrong with it to be fair though. Wish it could have been better, and there some of King's most ambitious ideas in that story! That's for sure :)
"with nothing more than a rubber band, a coconut and..." 😂😂😂😂😂😂
it's the word "Knockers". the algorithm has a good sense of humor.
😂😂😂
Both book and miniseries are entertaining. James Wan is set to remake it and I hope he makes one hell of a worthwhile movie out of it.
Agreed, though I def prefer the book. I didn’t know about the Wan film!

Yeah that’s likely the case. I wasn’t mad, just disappointed lol
The Night Flier
i wasn't going to say anything but I would be lying if I said I haven't been anticipating the night flier good call!
I am NOT afraid of Marg Helgenberger OR Traci Lords, Thanks for ANOTHER Great Review of a "not-so" great Miniseries. Thanks(giving) 😀
Lol yeah there wasn’t much in the way of thrills and chills, unfortunately. Thanks(giving) to you too!
@@agreatundertaking Another great vid, sir!
Thanks, phalexxx!

I’ve actually seen this recently. God, it’s so awful that I couldn’t help but laugh at some points
The lipstick laser gun?! HILARIOUS! 🤣🤣🤣
I dont know I kinda liked the miniseries. I know it sucks but I watched it a lot as a kid. I didn't get to see it when it first came out but I watched it later and always liked it for what it was.
I’m sure that I would have enjoyed it more if I’d seen it as a kid, but those nostalgia goggles can be deceiving!

I completely understand that though. I definitely have a number of shows and movies I love that have that nostalgia factor to them.
After watching this video I'm really glad I never watched the tommyknockers 😁
You made a very wise decision lol
I dunno, the Langoliers is pretty dang terrible.
The Langoliers is not that bad! The CGI is, but the rest of the show was decent!
@@agreatundertaking I don't know, some of the acting was really awful and yeah, that CG was not good even for the time. Meatballs for sure!
I thought the majority of the acting was good, but of the ensemble cast there were a few that weren’t as strong as their cast mates, that’s for sure.
This would've been so awesome if the audio didn't sound like it was underwater
It does?! This is the first time anyone has had an issue with my audio… I went back and listened to it and it sounds good to me!
