I simply can not thank you enough for this lesson. I grew up in Hacienda Heights California down the street from a guy named Greg F. He was/is very proficient on the six string and was from an early age. We would go to the local record store, pick out a Yes album, and a few hours later he was playing mood for a day. Self taught. I was and am still jealous. We're talking 1975 now. Cut to 2014. I have a decent set of fingers and some talent but not much of an ear apparently because picking up a song from an album is almost impossible for me. I've been thinking about taking some lessons for many years just to try and learn for one thing, "Mood For A Day". I don't know why it took so long to get the idea of looking on TH-cam but the light finally went on tonight. I am now through the first 20 seconds or so of the song and with a little practice will be able to do it justice. I can't begin to thank you enough for putting up this free lesson. I will go to sleep and wake up with a smile on my face thinking of this fantastic song and the fact that I'm beginning to actually play it. YaaaHoooo!!!
Thank you for this! I learned this song 35 years ago after seeing my first YES concert and I forgot it many years ago because for some foolish reason I stopped playing it. When I came across your lesson on TH-cam I was very impressed and knew in my heart that I had to relearn it. I started at 7 am today and it is now 5:30 pm! My fingers are sore, but I have the basic piece down. Now there will be lots of practice...
I have spent many hours almost every day over the last month or so and because of your vid I have been able to turn endless drills of one technique or another into an enjoyable coherent song that closely resembles Mood for the day. Thanks so very much!
I just now put the guitar down to write this to you. I'm an absolute beginner but I just finished learning this one completely. Just now. Never thought I'd be capable of learning it! I couldn't thank you enough. The tabs were so very helpful. Again, thanks!
You are one amazing instructor. I discovered this video barely an hour ago, and am rapidly on my way to playing this piece. I'm a huge fan of Steve Howe and have been working of a couple of his other solos on my own. Thank you so much. Keep on teaching.
I'm glad I have the authentic tabs and sheet music as well this is a great addition especially when know the time signatures and I like how you broke up the song choosing to not always start on the first beat but rather dissecting each part to it well done!
I’ve loved this song since I was young, and thought it was out of my grasp to play. 40 years later, thanks to you, I’m playing it. Keep up the great work man, you’re an awesome teacher!
I have wanted to learn this song forever and your lesson made it so easy. I didn't realize that my skill level had risen to the point that I can really play this now and as I practice I hope to increase fluidity. Thank you so very much for teaching me this classic by one of the best guitarists ever! Kudos friend!
I bought a guitar 3 years ago. I had 2 songs I wanted to learn. Horizons and Mood For A Day. Horizons I learned, now I can finish Mood. Clear, logical, a great lesson. Thank you so much. (I did learn a few others along the way)
I'm another old guy taught myself this from the "LP" whatever that was, forgot it, thought I'd try this beautiful piece again, found your video, thanks man, you made my day!!
I have just found your site and it's an absolute breath of fresh air - a fantastic teaching and sharing medium. Sincere thanks for sharing your gift of music with us mere mortals. Many Thanks Tom
What a excellent lesson my man. Like some others I tried to learn the song listening to the record. I forgot it all after a wile not having a guitar. But I'm back with strings and wood learning how to play these fantastic songs from master guitarist like yourself. Steve Howe really is a genius also. Many thanks from London.
I see the guy below me suggested not using steel strings....❓❓❓❓😦 You do an awesome job. I haven't been able to play for over 20 yrs due to illness, and you helped me bring it it back quick...Thank You Kindly!
Yeah man ! Thanks so much for this. I forgot about this song until the other day, I'm loving this lesson, and loving playing this one, nylon strings or steel doesn't matter just a fun tune and a great workout
That was awesome just to see someone else who has the same amount of respect for that song. Because of this video I am pretty sure I can look forward to knowing this one in a few weeks maybe less.. Thanksdude.
Thank you very much for your step by step approach to one of my all time favorites, that I thought would be so hard to learn. I now am completely stoked as I am learning the song with ease. I'm also looking forward to looking at your other lessons.
I've got this down! unbelievable Thanks for making one of my greatest guitar wishes come true. Great lesson and I could have never figured this out without your help.
Thanks for taking the time to show everyone this song, there are several points where it played differently than you´ve shown - you´ve sometimes made the fingering more difficult than it is - and some points where your´re playing too many and the wrong notes. Nevertheless, it´s a helpful tutorial, thanks.
I have made it half way and I am just astonished by how well it's going, you gave the first great tab I have seen of this gem of a song. Thanks again. I wonder if you have already done Clap from Yes.
thank you very much for the video. i have always wanted to learn this song as it is one of my favorite pieces by my favorite guitarist. now thanks to you i know it.. this really inspired me to pursue a musical career.. thanks again!! peace :)
im so happy i can play this again of course there are some bits missing but you can work that out thats arrangement, any suggestions what to take on next thats as pretty as that???
This is amazing thank you so much! Just curious, how come you left out the part right after the C part where he plays the A part again repeating it and then ends on that chord before going into the ending .
Awesome, man. Thanks to you I can play a decent Mood for a day now. I can also play a decent Masquerade, but Clap is light years ahead of me, so, could you do Surface Tension maybe , please? Thx a lot!
Thanks for a Fantastic the lesson. You are Master teach and great man. Thank you great job. Great man. You are great friend because help a students a lot of.
Great video men, really usefull. One problem, I clicked on the "wanna watch me playing it" and it says the video isn't available. It would be cool to hear the whole song played by you.
Very helpful lesson, but I think it is a bit of a condensed version. There appear to be some missing parts at the end. For example, the beginnng repeats again but with a longer scale run and there are few other missing bits near the end.
Thanks, the tutorial is very accessible - it's a shame that you missed out a few parts (alternate voltas) though. Keep up with the good work, my only advice is that you could improve your left hand technique.
Is there a chance I could get the tab for this song. I would print this out. This song is degree level I must Achieve for my sanity. Please thanks. Ken Holmes
I have actually got down the whole thing in a day just practicing each part a ton before trying to peform the whole piece. Thanks dude you rock. But when you bar 1 and stretch to 4 on D, I have lots of trouble and when successful it sounds off? Can I just play the normal 1 on A with 2 on B then 4 on D? Easier and sounds ok.
I would freeze frame on each finger board display and do them untill they flowed. some one day I could get 1 minute into the vid, the next day 1 min 30 seconds, next day or so 2 minutes ... Patience and practice
Not to be annoying but at the beginning of the first verse there's no slides, I don't know if you're aware of this but the original song has no slides in that part.
Fun piece huh...! I’ve seen a few different versions of this. (Fingering) fun fun.!! Oddly enough both of the best random versions live have been by drummers I once knew... you a drummer? Lol. Anyhoo id say try Frank Zappa..tunes like “make the water turn black” and “sofa no.2” are fun to hear different voicing much the same as Howe does. Cheers

Very nice piece
I learnt Clap from Lick n Riff...took a year or so but well worth it would never have done it otherwise.

Just found this. I had taught myself this using Guitar magazine tabs years ago. Your explanation really helped me understand the correct way to play.
I see the guy below me suggested not using steel strings....❓❓❓❓😦 You do an awesome job. I haven't been able to play for over 20 yrs due to illness, and you helped me bring it it back quick...Thank You Kindly!
Still my go to video to remember the song. Please keep it posted. Really nicely done. Thank you very much!!
I listened to this song so many times, imagining me playing it.. Now this is Reality !
Your lesson is AWESOME : D thank u !

@StereoLightz You got it. I was just thinking about doing a series of Beatles lessons. I'll try to film them this week.

Hey Steve, thanks so much for the lesson. Your style of playing the riffs then showing the tabs is great man, so thank you. Subbed.
I have made it half way and I am just astonished by how well it's going, you gave the first great tab I have seen of this gem of a song. Thanks again. I wonder if you have already done Clap from Yes.

This is amazing thank you so much! Just curious, how come you left out the part right after the C part where he plays the A part again repeating it and then ends on that chord before going into the ending .

Request for life has just begun by spirit off the 12 dreams album if you find the time...
Awesome explanation and performance.
The part at 3:42 is so hard for me to do,how do you make it sound so fluent? Cuz everytime i do it ,it just sounds sloppy
My coworker has challenged me to learn this song. I will not disappoint him!
never delete this video, please
Thanks, well done and a great help. I will definitely check out more of your stuff.
yes, the second half of the song as played on fragile is missing though I am sure most of it is a repeat with some improv.
Thanks for a Fantastic the lesson. You are Master teach and great man. Thank you great job. Great man. You are great friend because help a students a lot of.
Great video men, really usefull.

Thanks buddy. You made it so clear!
Wow! that really is fantastic - I used to 'Air Guitar; this song, now I am really getting to grips with it..

Is there a chance I could get the tab for this song. I would print this out. This song is degree level I must Achieve for my sanity. Please thanks. Ken Holmes
Thank you very much
Such a good tutorial, thanks man.
excellent lesson my friend!

Awesome job with the tutorial Thank you friend!
Excellent work!
Merci pour les précisions!! Good job!
Tab on b flat min 9:00 is wrong. Thanks for the lesson though, good stuff to learn
Well done! Can you play it on that çumbus?
Very beautifull tutorial, thanks.
Increible, gracias desde Argentina!
great lesson my man
Excellent explanation, thank you!
Excelente profesor, gracias por explicar
Slight mistake on tab at 9:03 second to last notes on tab should be a 2 on b string not 1
Well, you can just pause and go back in the video... If I had an extra camera I would shoot a close up angle
Awesome lesson!
great lesson. Right on the money!!
Not to be annoying but at the beginning of the first verse there's no slides, I don't know if you're aware of this but the original song has no slides in that part.
Thanks, great lesson! What model is your Takamine?
Im doing this song for my berklee audition!! : D
Amazing thanks for the class
