  • I couldn't find a good looking version of the intro to Foundation on TH-cam. Maybe I'm bad at searching? Anyway, I uploaded a copy. This show is some kinda eyeball sex for sure.
    Created by the talented folks at Imaginary Forces - imaginaryforce...

    The intro is an allegory for the first season. The multiple colours represent the Cleonic dynasty as represented in the palace mosaic. The statues, ships and emblems, symbols of imperial power are eroding marking the beginning of the fall of the Galactic Empire. The concentration on the erosion of Brother Dawn’s statue highlights his role in the beginning of the Empire’s fall. Finally, at the end, the Prime Radiant represents the Foundation and mankind’s hope of grasping a new future coming from the ashes of the fall.

      Same! I'm not one to skip title sequences but I surely wouldn't skip this one, because I love it! I think it does a great job encompassing the scale and intrigue of the dynamics at play in the show, as well as the overall vibe -- dark and light... the imposing but grand structure of tradition, the chaos and the hope of history and change... I get an invigorating sense of the show when this intro plays, which is always the sign of an intro that serves its purpose well.

    From what I understand, it's actually pretty good, as long as you've never actually read Foundation. As in it's a competent sci-fi series with plenty of eye candy, but has to be judged on it's own merits and not any similarity to the actual stories.

    • @CinematicHypeTV
      @CinematicHypeTV 2 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      Its very good no matter if you read the books or not. There might be some people who dislike some of the gender swaps but the overall Story is the same. In detail the books wouldn't work as a TV-Show so they changed or added some things to make it a better viewing experience. It's not a 1:1 translation of the books but as long as that doesn't hurt the overall story I don't care.

    • @Arkay24
      @Arkay24 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I haven't seen today's episode, but so far I agree. The tone strays quite a bit from the source books, and while I think it's good to mix it up a little (since Foundation was a series of short stories, as far as I know) the past two chapters have felt unnecessarily drawn out when showing what's going on with the Foundation.
      I find myself far more excited to see what The Empire does. I feel the Cleons stories have little or no filler scenes and are better thought out to fit the 42-min runtime. It might be like Game of Thrones where you have periods of nothing really happening, but at least then there was always a sense of advancement or danger keeping it interesting.

    • @const1988
      @const1988 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      No, the show is bad on it's own. It is in fact so far from the books that there is just no reason to compare them. I would say it's the worst sci-fy show of the year. The visual were good in the first episode but got awful by episode 7. Everything else: writing, acting, worldbuilding is bad and is getting worse as the episodes air.

    • @rafioooo
      @rafioooo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      If you stick around for space epic and general eye candy, its okay-ish. If you are in for characters to cheer on... so far they all been paper-thin and non-likable. You have one girl who is math genius but she is unlikeable and not interesting. You have other girl that is great with guns, but she is unlikeable, not interesting and looks like Guardian from Destiny on most of landscape shots. You have emperors who run the space empire, but they are unlikeable and uninteresting. You have robot lady advising them, but she is unlikeable and uninteresting. You have guy who is math genius. He is unlikeable but he swings between being interesting and not interesting.
      Character drama is so predictable few episodes in you can predict who is going to die next and when they die the reaction it triggers in viewer is "oh here he goes, bubai character who's important to everyone but us".
      Main antagonists for Foundation arc are Xena The Warrior Princess and Hercules The Legendary Journeys cosplayers.
      I watch the shows either because I am interested in the mystery of the surrounding world (Raised by the Wolves) or I like space battles or lead characters (The Expanse, BSG). This show has neither. But Apple drops so much money on it that you can kind of cruise with it.

      I don't actually understand the haters.
      I think this show is incredible. It hits on music, on visuals, on tone and on dialogue.
      It isn't much like the books - but on it's own merits the show is quite good, and hits the same themes as the books, if using a different story arc, and talking alot more about the empire. But that's not a bad thing. The Emperor is the best character(s) in the series. You can even see how all the Cleons are different, despite the fact the same actors are playing different characters at different periods of time. You can tell at a glance who Cleon the 13th and who Clean the 12th is. Lots of subtle things like giving all the characters the same nervous tics.
      Clean the First was a visionary. Cleon the 11th was kind. Cleon the 12th is rash and aggressive. Cleon the 13th is shrewd and conniving. Clean the 14th is uncertain and fearful.

    Good for what it is but way too woke. Is it too much to ask to give us an adaptation of the original work? Instead of writing something different and sticking the Foundation name on it. I guess so. How can you possibly think you can improve on Asimov? And no, I am neither a Russian bot nor a racist, apparently this is always necessary to point out if you don't fall in line

    What I am curious about is the giant sand statue in the opening. In season one, it appears without gender, but in the second season opening, it looks female. What is the significance of that I wonder?

    • @mushroomfrogdude2104
      @mushroomfrogdude2104 ปีที่แล้ว

      I noticed it too - my thought at first was that that was “the sleeper” (that god they worship on her home planet) but the gender being revealed/the person being changed makes me think it’s the empress lady that empire was talking about?

    This is a great title sequence. But I've seen the first episode and will not be continuing watching the show. As a Dune fan, you have my condolences, Foundation fans. It's a shame this series didn't have its own Denis Villeneuve - someone who cared about and respected the books.

    • @stevehedley6777
      @stevehedley6777 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The books have many themes, and so far the show is doing a grand job pulling them together. The Dune story is very much more unitary - Frank Herbert planned the entire story as he was writing the first in the series. Sorry to lose you!

      The show of foundation it´s the same thing of Hulu´s Handmaid Tale and series of Man in high castle. Both are adaptations based in famous fiction books, both with much more differents storylines, characters and concepts. And this is not bad, with Handmaid winning many emmys and high castle being great. Both are great series in own way.
      And foundation don´t work as literal adaptation, even asimov agreed with that.

    Intro is nice, unfortunately a little copy-cat from Game of Thrones....and while it tells the story of foundation (as currently unfolded) it feels far less connected to the actual events of the series unlike GOT.

    From someone that has read the books, this show is an utter piece of crap, it has very little to nothing to do with the books.. i really do not know why they called it foundation. I'm glad Isaac Asimov didn't live to see this abomination. Apple has turned comments off as they don't want fans telling them what a crap show it is, and for heaven's sake stop the bloody monologues !!
