This was actually the first performance for the China competition's new season of The Singer 2017 [which was why the crowd was excited for it to start at the beginning] -- but what is often overlooked is that he was pretty much a complete unknown to that audience [he's from Kazakhstan and doesn't speak any Chinese] , and least expected or anticipated to do much since he was pretty much unknown to the audience [which is why he was placed to go first -- the most anticipated singers were set to perform last on that episode].
This was the first time the China audience and other performers in the back room on the show heard him sing. Between his first performance ["S.O.S." in French] and his 2nd performance [Vita's "Opera 2" in Russian], he quickly won their hearts completely.

If you don’t yet, Dimash is from Kazakhstan so he’s not “Chinese” but he’s participating in this Chinese 2017 singing competition called the Singer. He’ll be 24 yrs old in May, hes 6’3” tall. Both his parents are prominent cultural figures in Kazakhstan. He has been singing, learning to play numerous instruments, since age 2, and he has a song in this competition that he wrote and composed himself!

welcome to the Dimash experience 😀😀😀. He is classically trained but what really makes him special is how he blends so many different techniques and singing styles into his covers and completely flips it until its his own. Rock, RnB, pop,opera etc he does it all. You should really do "opera 2" next. Its his signature performance from the show and mind blowing! It gives you a taste of what he can do with his insane 6 octaves.

Its almost funny now but this one video of Dimash makes me cry every time I watch it, just not possible for me to watch this without getting super emotional, interesting phenomena bearing in mind I am a 50 year old male !!. No other music or video I have ever seen has this effect - amazing stuff - could be my age - LOL

he been singing since he was a kid and training like a man possessed and he is still in his prime. what a time to alive to bear witness to his epic performances.

My big thanks for your digging of Dimash's vocal treasures ! But there's also another vocal wonder on the world's YT stage right now - Diana Ankudinova from Russia. Pls listen to her mythical interpretation of the ancient wedding chants in the song RECHEN'KA (loosely translated=My Dear Small River). You do not need to know Russian or any other human languages because you'll be speechless at the end anyway ! :^)

After this blockbuster performance, Dimash went on to place second in this competition for seasoned Chinese singers, appear in multiple programs and concerts, record two movie theme songs and one video game theme song, win 9 awards this year alone, including the Best Original Soundtrack for video game, Hollywood Music in Media Award (November 16) for the song Ocean over the Time, hold his first solo concert Bastau in Astana on June 27, release two singles recently in Chinese which hit top of the charts on QQ Music within half an hour, and just yesterday, hold the first concert of his World Tour D-Dynasty in Changsha, China. This is the city where he first catapulted to international stardom with this performance which you just reacted to. I was there yesterday, and it was amazing!!! Then at the airport, it was pandemonium!
