62 was too young for such a wonderful person, especially as so many evil bar stewards live into their 80s and 90s

Watched all of Victoria's plays and saw her live on stage in the late 80's. Then as now, I saw her as a national treasure. She is much missed. Thanks for sharing.

That beginning scenes capture the early 80s perfectly. The sound of kids on the street, the dogs wandering the streets, the ice cream van, the general greyness and then the silence apart from the cars in the distance.

Yes, particularly as the 1980s were less than six months old when it was recorded. Looks rather 70s to me as well!

General greyness? Ridiculous! It was no more grey than it is now. In general, there as a lot more colour about then compared to now - cars, clothes, interior design etc. It is the 21st century that is grey - or rather, monotone. Just look around you at ho people dress, the colours of their cars, the uniform white/grey/cream of the interiors of buildings...

There were times I didn't appreciate Victroria's humour and I guess it's because she was on TV when I was too young to understand the women's themes she had running through her work. As I got older I started to really enjoy her wit and comedy. Now I can see her genius. May she rest in peace 🙏

Essentially, the girls would have been better off staying together rather that Julie’s character going off with a man she found dull and Victoria’s character thinking ‘What’s the point of dieting, I’m miserable. No man wants me anyway so I’ll be fat and happy.’ Had they spent the evening together, they would have both been happier. That’s it really. 😊

I know - men still doing the vast majority of the dangerous/physical jobs - resulting in an over 90% male work gender death gap, female crimes excused as 'mental illness', males flagged for 'toxic masculinity', the 'sexist' pay gap - debunked by the Office for National Statistics - still used by Feminists, history rewritten (the suffragettes were not heroines and the 'vote' issue far more complex then is made out), all female shortlists for jobs women don't generally desire, male suicides at an all time high, 'patriarchy' theory the accepted (claptrap) PC mantra, women's DV - including against CHILDREN - downplayed or ignored, lack of DV shelters for CHILDREN and men abused by women, difficulties for those abused by females in finding organisations to listen, skewed stats, skewed arguments, skewed everything. Never mind, Celia. I don't believe TRUE equality will ever happen. But some of us keep trying. We must just be aware that male chivalry and female narcissism are powerful and long entrenched attitudes in the discussion.
