- I needed to dig a ditch, I didn't want to rent a backhoe, since you pay for it, you have it a day, and then it's gone. So, I spent about $250 and built this. It's powered by 2500lbs winches from Harbor Freight. Works ok... The next version (if I make it) will have a few changes. It fits in a 2" receiver hitch. In this video, it's attached to my Geo Prizm.

You certainly have some ideas 👍
I like your effort. I thought of something similar, but the winches are rated for a low duty cycle, usually 10% at best. Sure, you may not be using much of it's capability, but even at no load, it is generating heat, and it may be a problem with prolonged use. BTW, I used a 2000lb Warn winch to move a 6000lb concrete slab across my yard. Good value!
Yeah, it's amazing the power of a winch. I was worried about the duty cycle as well, the winches did get hot, but not nearly as hot as I thought they would. I usually ran it for a few hours at a time, probably 50% duty?
It's like a backwards skimmer shovel
great idea !
if you get a chance look at the old cable rigs !
I retired as a back hoe excavator operator for I O U E local 12 and think this is a good idea ! maby i can build me one ,Make more videos !!Please :)

More Videos... Hopefully coming, thanks for the encouragement.
I Woulda died if you got that thing caught on the gas meter
Yeah, that would have sucked, especially since they used plastic line from the street to the meter...
