First of all love you videos maybe someday I can meet you youve, helped me with all my fluke fishing love your books too.Your video's help so much tight lines john.
Thanks for another interesting video. Those guys at the dock ....I love how polite a local can be when they think you're catching their fish. Maybe they hoped it was true about sheepshead/noise.
Thanks John! Like you I fish Long Is, Cape Cod,Sebastian Fl,and the Keys. Even flesh water. A lot of techniques I use are transferable. I always learn something new from you. Tight lines!
Great day John. Sheepshead are tough ones. I like how you incorporate your Long Island fishing techniques with the different species down there. Happy Holidays to you John, enjoy.
Nice video, seems like you have become a pro with Sjeepshead. They seem to put up a nice little fight. Those Skinner rods are very distinctive looking looking.
I concur that whole crab works best for sheep’s. I believe they are more presentation oriented than tog. Most times I don’t even crack the shell or take the legs off.
Noise-wise, they sell a float down there in SW Florida that slides up and down a SS rod that is specifically designed to make a sound to attract fish, kinda like deer antlers in a bag you shake to attract does. Works. Fresh shrimp down there works well too.
I don't do specific where-to, like spots. I focus on techniques and different environments - open beaches, inlets, bays, creeks. I'm not sure what species you're looking for, but I've never seen a Sheepshead up North. They get them in NJ and around NYC, but I'm out on eastern LI.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing thank you. I'll do more research and still pick up a book or two. Using your Popper and Bucktail techniques I have caught a ton of tailwater striped bass.
@@JohnSkinnerFishingyea I’d like to see you utilize blackfish techniques on our California sheephead. Similar fish with seemingly similar behavior, would be interesting to see.

When you get a chance, how about a video on targeting Mangrove Snapper. I've watched guys free line minnows around the mangrove islands. Enjoyed this video alot.
I found John hoarding small tick habitats in his basement back in 1987. When he had an enemy he would release cum fed ticks onto them causing many problems such as Mark disease which is bad
Hey John nice trip! I'm going to buy your new red rod and want to ask how it compares to the Blue Dark matter 6'3" MH. In other words, I do fluke, striper, tog. And what benefit , feel, etc does the red rod provide? Also, what spinning reel would you recommend best bang for the buck?Thank you
Reel is easy - Tsunami evict 2000. bit.ly/3TaSWCS. That 6'3'' is mostly a jigging rod, whereas the red one is something you would use to cast for albies, stripers. The rod has good range in that you'll enjoy schoolies on it, but it can stop and muscle big fish. The rod is extremely comfortable and well-balanced.
Hi Peter. It was really terrible. We were lucky that most of our block used the same roofing contractor and got our roof replaced within a couple of months.
Ian also climbed onto my roof and broke a hole the child really needs to be dealt with last week he jumped from a helicopter through my window #disillineIan
Hello father crab fucker why did I see you performing unconsentual acts with crabs in instagram they don’t want to crawl into you but when you put a small fish in there they have no option. I am triumphant. #triumphant
Those guys waking you not cool lol they must have been jealous of you
Maybe he didn't like me fishing his dock. No big deal. It didn't hurt the fishing and was rather educational to see that.
Yea, agree. Glad it didn’t impact your fishing.
That guy couldn't have idled 10 more feet past you??!! Wow

sorta what I was thinking to - a little courtesy goes a long way

Here in Maryland and in the Chesapeake bay, we get exceptional blackfish and sheepshead fishing best of both worlds
Thanks for another interesting video. Those guys at the dock ....I love how polite a local can be when they think you're catching their fish. Maybe they hoped it was true about sheepshead/noise.
We catch 12-15 pounders up here in the northeast and they like the smaller hook the most
Thanks John! Like you I fish Long Is, Cape Cod,Sebastian Fl,and the Keys. Even flesh water. A lot of techniques I use are transferable. I always learn something new from you. Tight lines!
Great channel John....Straight up Fishing with no Drone or other BS!!!! Like it
Thanks! You forgot no music either :-)

That rod looks awesome
Why thank you

The red rod shows up great in the video
First time I've used it for this kind of fishing where I needed to focus on the rod tip. The color made it really easy to see every vibration.
My red rod shows up great in video too #muthafucka
Wow, see the rod bend!
Love the rod color
Me too. The rod is so perfectly balanced and comfortable too.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing is that a7' medium and what weight is the max i can throw. I want to make sure before i order for Christ mas
@@trickytrav88 Sweet spot 1/4-1 ounce I'd say, max 1.5-ounce.

Osprey chirping in the background lol.
Don’t know what funny about that lol

Or mullet? You should check out the mullet festival in Goodland. I think it's in February. Stans outdoor pub is cool.
Stan and me had interocurse in the year 1983. I could feel the summer air ecaplate all his but smells
Hi John
Try th AUSSIE CRANKA CRAB lure. Awesome crab lure and very well respected down under for bream fishing. Basically same fish but silver.
Out of interest in Oz bream are very slow growing are these the same?
Don't know what Oz bream are.

I've used shrimp a few times and they were terrible compared to crabs on larger fish.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing I don't doubt it. I have family in the area and I come from a cheapskate family. Lol.
Mr Skinner, I must agree with exactly what you said. In Florida, the older and more decrepit the saltwater doc is, the more fish there are.
Nice sheep…was fishing similar conditions for sheep..found a few ..then boom…rippin line…hooked into a sawfish ..saw it before busted line..crazy
Wow! I'd love to see one of those.
I was also fishing for sheep except I used a carrot to lure them onto the freeway
Does either of your books go into where to fish up NE? Catching them from a beach is a bucket list for this landlocked Tennessean.

If your primary interest is beach stripers, then Striper Pursuit is what I'd suggest.
Please come out to Southern California and compare our sheepshead to Southern (Gulf) sheepshead… awesome video as always 🍻
I think yours look like our Northeast blackfish (tautog).

I don't see decent ones. Tons of shorts though.
Why would they fly by like that with the boat
Your right, they will sit on it the jig and you won’t even know just like blackfish
You can tell the fish at 14:30 was a sheepshead because it wanted to go to the bottom. Man, those mangroves still look toasted after the hurricane.
John, would setting the hook to your side he better than going up? Wonder if you can experiment with that....crabs, jigs.
Less than 5-ft of water there and I'm more out from the fish than on top of, so side swing with a longer rod than I'd use for fish directly below me.
From my experiment going up usually pleases them more #johnsding12
I thought when there was docks around it was a no wake zone
Not everywhere, and not there. What he did was perfectly legal.
Any way you could put a polorized lens on you camera?
Video would reflect how you see the fish in the water.
Fish On John Skinner, Fish On!
I'm using a polarized lens! Been using it for a while. I just added one to my stern cam today.
Another great video. Like the new poles. What recipe did you use to cook the sheepheads?
Pancake batter the fillets and fry in peanut oil. Just ate some. Yum!

Sheepshead are pretty good. Surprised to see EliasVFishing catching them up here in Jersey.
What are the fish around 20:00...lady fish?
mullet
It’s a red drum
Hi John, where did you get your net from?
A yard sale. It was originally from BPS.
He got it from me we used to trade things under the bridge
Is that the same skiff you use on LI?
no

They just snap up sandfleas (mole crabs).
I don't have easy access to those. The gulf beaches are only 5 miles across the water from my home, but about 90 minutes by car.

Keep using the smaller hooks!!!
I see sheepshead I watch
Really they had to swamp you
I used 3/0 with no oroblem on sheeps
Awesome - thanks for that input.
First comment. Again!😊
No you weren’t
half porgy half blackfish
Perfect description.
Half man half ape that’s what Marka is he will swim after your boat
Ignorant people are all over. Nice job.
they look zebra porgies but eat like a black fish....
Total ahole move blowing by you right after you showed him your catch when they asked.
Hello my little reindeer this is Santa balls I will blow my fat sack sleigh past whoever I want #ballsoutchristmas
Can't believe he waked you twice. Really inconsiderate to a fellow fisherman.
