Enjoyed the 16 year chapter 2 pluse the price for these are reasonable. These bottles are still available and the 18 as well. Glen Garioch older bottles seem to be still out there. The GG 1999/2013 Sherry cask and the 1995/2012 Bourbon cask slightly peated old distillate were available up until just a few years ago for next to nothing.
Great review. This bottling was showing up locally for about $75 USD so I pulled the trigger. I'm NOT a huge fan of Oloroso Sherry because it seems to have more sulphur issues than other sherries but there are many very nice Oloroso matured whiskies out there. You just have to be careful. Cheers.
This is a very tasty one! The 1998 Wine cask version is also quite tasty. Whisky Jason has done some great reviews of several of these Glen Garioch whiskies. Thanks for reviewing this one!
Same here .... $100 Canadian and I bought a bottle! Later the Renaissance 18 cleared out for the same price but I gave that a miss. Don't know if that was a mistake.
@@GlenLossie I recently tried the 17 and 18 side by side and preferred the 18 by quite a large margin! Make of this information what you will!😉 Cheers!
@@saschaoswald480 It just goes to show you how subjective people's tastes are. When the 17 appeared on sale I came across Whisky Jason's video review where he blind tasted the 15, 16, 17, 19 and a fifth bottle. The 17 came out on top and he rather disliked the 18 year old, finding it a bit too woody. Well, since I didn't buy the 18, no offence, but I hope my tastes are more aligned with Whisky Jason's ... just saying.
just discovered your channel. Really enjoy your review style. very candid but informed. been looking for something similar to Glen Garioch 12 as i love that whiskey - balance between ex-bourbon and sherry is sublime. Not a fan of mega sherry in whisky personally. Any recommendations regarding something similar to Glen Garioch 12 ?
Thank you for the kind words...means a lot! GG 12 is really unique dram in it's richness. While a bit funkier, Bunnahabhain 12 is similar in it's richness. Also check out Edradour (many are sherry but they do have bourbon cask).
thanks for the feedback. Ironically i seem to one of the few that havnt loved Bunna 12. IM about 30 bottles into my journey and i dont know why - i just found the bunna to be a little oak heavy with a lingering sourness i found to be annoying. i guess the GG12 just seemed so much more integrated in terms of the bourbon/sherry. subjectivity is so wierd - i also seemed to have fallen in love with lahroaig(which i hated) so there's that....@@MaltMuserWhisky

Agreed...super reasonable all things considered and the quality is certainly there.
Sounded excellent. I have not had the 17, but the 12 is almost always on the shelf. Cheers!
That Renaissance is a great series from one of my favorite distilleries. Glen Garioch flies under most people's radar...
Indeed, bud. Never had a bad one!

I've had a bottle of this 17 year and the 15 from the series stashed away for some time. Will be opening the 17 year. Thanks for the review.
It is so edifying that I am not the only person impressed by these old Renaissance bottlings.
They’re great! Love this distillery

Slainte! I will have to see what Jason had to say!
Looks Good
Excellent review of this whisky my friend. Very descriptive.
Thank you kindly!
It's just great to see some new Malt Muser content!
Haven't tried this one but I just noticed a store trying to clear it out for $CDN 100....tempting!
I would grab it!

@@GlenLossie You just can't have them all! The 17 was still very good, especially for the price you paid. Enjoy!

hows ma bud?? Haven't seen you in a while! Nice review!
Cheers, Catnap! Doing well thanks. Getting back in the swing of things.
I'm not sure if you've tried the Craichellechie 17, but im wondering if you have, how would you compare this with the Craig 17?
It has been some time...maybe I can find another to revisit!
Great review .Would you prefer this over say, Deanston 18 Benrinnes 15?
I’ve not had the berinnes but would definitely take this over the standard deanston 18
❤
Do you fill some age in it ?
It’s very cask driven but yes especially with water r
